One company I work with is a one man shop, with 8 machines. It’s all about smart automation, sister tooling, tool break detection, and working with his supply chain as true partners to offload work on them as much as possible.
I would never install a vise in a machine and leave it non-indicated. It takes me a few minutes to throw a vise in and indicate it straight, so installing a vise crooked is not even something I would consider doing as it would lead to other negative consequences and I consider that a terrible practice. This is something that would literally only work in a one-man shop, I really don't see it as a 'time savings', seems more like laziness to me. Probing is useful for many things, but compensating for laziness is not one of them.
