I rarely disagree with your excellent video but I do so here It’s called non split step volley. The pros sometimes do this when he thinks he doesn’t have time to do proper split step upon going foreword. It’s extremely rare for pros to do this but it’s a technique . He certainly didn’t “ forget” the split step. He just ignored .
I fail to see how he could stop and split step on the side of the court. Medvedev made a crazy good shot given the trouble he was in and it was going to be a tough volley for anyone not named Nadal or Djokovic. Can you show me a video of that bring done by another player? I’m just tying to understand it. Also wouldn’t the split step be dependent on timing it with Medvedev’s shot to see the angle essentially delaying his momentum and would it have been possible to reach the ball once he waited to see the trajectory? Sorry my understanding of tennis may be too low.
I totally agree with you. He already running to the correct direction. No one make split steps in the middle of running. Split step is done before you run for either direction. It helps you to move either side faster. He misses is not about the split steps.
I preach the split step for every shot but for some reason the people I tell how it important it is just blow if off as something not that important and as an afterthought. Split stepping correctly has been a major difference in my game.
He did stretch as well when he did the volley, didn't he? May the direction of the ball is unexpected to him. It seems he was too rushing to the net too. You mean if he did split step at the base line or at the service line?
In this case i totally disagree. Yes he should have made the split step, but in this case that wasn't the reason for him missing the volley. The split step would not have made this volley less sloppy. The opponent manages to push the return at a good cross court angle. With split step he probably would have had to reach even more. It's easy to say what you say from this view point angle, but if you would see this shot more from above.. he hit down the line opening the court completely for this cross court shot and the moment he realizes that the opponent reaches the ball it's already too late and he has to rush. It's this rush to cut off the angle that made him sloppy. Not the absence of the split step. I looked at it again a few times. He should have focused on getting in the right position.
@@2MinuteTennis Like you said, he ran too much initially towards the net, so to intercept the ball he had to change his movement to almost entirely left (instead of at a diagonal), and I think this leftward momentum carried the ball wide.

I can feel he actually ran to the wrong direction because of the lack of split step. Love your analysis.

Did you see JC Fererro had “you got this” on his hat, as Carlitos beat Zverev?

People in the comments say your wrong but no i think your right he should of taken a quick as split step.
He was out of control bc of no split step.
Looks like his momentum carried the ball wide
So he should’ve been stationary while volleying?
