    I've been knitting for several years and you have just given me some of the best advice and tips regarding the importance of each stitch and enjoying the journey rather than rushing through toward some imaginary goal and getting hand and back cramps. You're such a good teacher.

    This was THE most helpful video on hand pain and repetitive stress injury. This strategy clarified the changes that helped immediately. Most other videos treat the symptoms, not the cause, of the pain problem. Thank you! Knitting feels so much more calm and meditative now

      @@Knitfreedom Update: After one month of knitting daily using your strategies, I am completely pain free. Not only that, my knitting tension is more consistent because I am finally comfortable and relaxed with it. Can't thank you enough!

    Loved your explanation about various tensions. Too loose, too tight. Especially how the yearn should feel, in which I think is overlooked. Especially for new knitters, such as myself.

    just what I needed! I started knitting 4-5 days ago, I've been knitting like crazy, practicing 3 to 4 hours a day and my hands have been cramping. I hope I can change the tension and be more aware of how I handle a yarn. thanks!

    Bought 4 different yarns, all sizes 4 "worsted". Each had a different feel, thickness, tension, springyness. Used 3 different size knitting needles. Just making 5" x 5" stockingette gage swatches.

    Nice to see you back doing videos. Very helpful tips. I knew they were Signature Needle Arts needles! Would love to have some and maybe will treat myself one day but the cost is extremely high. I am happy with my Addi and ChiaoGoo interchangeables as well as some Knitter’s Pride interchangeables. I have a couple of sets of each. Are those stiletto tips really pointy? They don’t look like it in the video. I know they offer 3 different tips. I do not like them too pointy. The Addi Lace and the ChiaoGoo red lace do the trick but if I’m not doing lace, the blunter the better. Addi turbo are wonderful for me. Just personal preference I guess.       Thanks so much Thea! I love my Addis too, I would never trade my circular needles for another brand. But for straight needles I love SIgnatures. Yes, those are the stiletto tip! They have a sharp taper but they are not "sharp" - they don't hurt your fingertips. Thanks for commenting!

    So excellent. Such deeply insightful information!! I wish I heard this sooner.
    I knit like crazy last year on circulars and have about 10 pairs of awesome socks. BUT my right hand’s thumb started to look weird, like there was a string pulling it into the center of my hand!? And my hand became more painful I couldn’t grasp things or push a shopping cart. I still can’t. And if I try knit or crochet the pain shoots even up my forearm!
    I researched this and am still researching this medically. I’m not sure the answer but since it’s happened after almost 2 straight years of sudden crochet then knitting, I have to wonder!? Is this some disease created by thickening skin… blah blah blah? Or did I create this from about 2 years of (first) crochet (then) knitting.???
    All I know is that I can’t knit or crochet anymore at all. I’m broken hearted!
    Can you help direct me a bit?
    I love this info because you are right! I was under a lot of stress and trauma and was using the finishing of each pair of socks as a way to feel accomplished. If I had slowed down and tried the things you show, I’m sure I would have felt better.
    I’m not going to beat myself up after the fact but I sure hate thinking I can never knit or crochet again!!!!
    Any help will be SO appreciated.

      Hi Cheri, thanks for your patience in waiting for me to reply. It sounds absolutely heartbreaking to me that your hands are injured now because of doing something that brings you so much joy! It is clear that your hands need a lot of love now.
      I had a mysterious injury doing something I love many years ago. I got numbness and tingling in my arm after doing a yoga pose.
      The feeling persisted even when I was just laying down doing nothing. I went to a LOT of alternative medicine practitioners trying to find a solution. Eventually I found a man in Oakland, CA named Paul Ciske who specializes in nerve injuries. He explained to me that I had overstretched a nerve. They take years to fully heal. He gave me some specific stretches and exercises to do. I think they did help because I no longer have that problem. His website is paulciske.com/. You could call him and see if he has any advice or knows someone in your area that practices the same kinds of healing he does. You can tell him I recommended him to you.
      I would go to anyone that people recommend, and just start following the path of recommendations until you get some help that works. If they don't know how to help you, ask who can. Start with massage therapists in your area (real ones, not the relaxing spa ones). I hope this helps. Love, LIat

    I’ve been knitting for the past 2 months for 4-6hours a day very fast without taking breaks and now a horrible hard little ball showed up on my hand just above my wrist and my whole forearm hurts 😭
    Will this weird painful ball go away?
    I realise now it was silly to try to knit as fast as possible but I was having so much fun and it felt all exciting.
    Now I can only knit for 10-15 minutes and then I need a break, I hope it will get better. I recognise myself in the intermediate knitter scenario you describes and will now be seeking all info I can about reducing pain in order to be a smarter knitter ❤
