    Would it be possible to wire the relay board so the light stays on after the switch is activated and the sound ends? It’s for my proton pack build and I’m still sorting out how to have two light and sound pairs. The first pair would switch on together with a rocker switch, but the light would remain on after the sound, the pack powering up, ends. The second pair would work simultaneously with a button switch.
    Thank you 😊

    Great explanation, however you should address polarity regarding AC power to prevent possible electrocution. Also perhaps mention the sizing of the spade connectors depending on gauge of wire.

    Watched these two videos in quick succession. I’m a haunt builder that has 0 knowledge of electrical and board technology. Thank you for making this video super easy to understand. Your directions are clear and at a great pace to understand what’s going on. I never felt lost at any step. Oh and your diagrams and animations are helpful too. You can tell you put a lot of time into your videos. You have earned a subscriber in me. QUESTION: Any suggestions for a casing for all of the boards so that this could be kept outside for a short period (few weeks/days) to prevent the weather from ruining the tech? Is something made specifically to house those boards other than using a Tupperware container or similar?

    Hi Steve, fantastic video! Is the entire setup powered by 5Volts for everything? How big of computer stereo speakers can I get that would work with this module via the 3.5mm output jack? Can the output jack power 2 speakers by using a 3.5mm audio Y splitter cable? I love these kind of video! Keep up the great work!

    • @TheMakersCave
      @TheMakersCave  8 месяцев назад

      the 3.5 jack will output to any amp or powered speakers, like computer speakers. The 3.5 jack provides an unamplified live-level output. That particular board also has a 5 watt amp that will power a speaker directly through the on board speaker connection (not the 3.5 jack).

    Hi Steve! I wish I lived near you so I could buy you a beer (if you drink). This was another great video and I am really looking forward to the next in the series. Your tutorials are very helpful and spark the imagination. I think we're headed in this direction already but since you asked for content suggestions I'm going to throw this out there. I'd really like some instruction on how to build my own Prefect Storm or PicoSTORM or Velleman LIGHT ORGAN. The PicoSTORM is a nice piece of equipment but it doesn't play well with LED spotlights which I think simulate lightning better than halogen or incandescent. The Light Organ is also a fun piece of equipment but it's low voltage and there's no direct audio input so it's uses are limited. Thanks again for what you are doing!

      I know this is a dated response to deer motors...I was pulling motors out of tossed microwaves...and they are asynchronous . If it's important to your prop, you can order synchronous motors (one way spin) from different repair houses.

    Hey Steve great work! Can I use a wiper motor with this setup or would I need a different relay?

    • @TheMakersCave
      @TheMakersCave  Год назад +1

      You sure could. Use 5V to power the PIR and relay and another power supply to power the motor. Have the realy's Normally Open (NO) control the motor power, use the positive wire. You could probably use the standard termainal relay, but I don't know the specs of your motor. When I use high draw items like wiper motors I like to use the 5V relays with heavy duty terminals, like these: gravedecor.com/product/1-channel-5v-relay-with-heavy-duty-terminals-30a

    Could you run a light off the always on side and the motor on the always off side? So the light would turn off and the motor would run when triggered.

    • @TheMakersCave
      @TheMakersCave  Год назад

      If both devices are the same type and amount of voltage yes. For example, and we'll be using 12V DC power source. Run the ground of both devices to the ground of the power supply. Next take positive of the power source and attach it to the COM (common) terminal of the relay. Then wire the positive of the always on device to the NC (normally closed) terminal of the relay. Take the positive of the device that you want to turn on during the relay activation and connect that to the NO (normally open) terminal of the relay. You now have a device that will always run until the relay is activated. Once activate the relay will switch the COM terminal away from NC, turning of power to that device, and switch it to the NO terminal providing power to that device. Once the relay is "released" the COM and NC terminals will contact again, return power to that device. If you have two different types of power, like a DC motor and AC lights, YOU CAN NOT DO THIS!!! For that I would suggest the same type of relay but in a 2 Channel version, basically two sperate relays on one board.

    Just a casual observation. When you cut the AC cord I noticed you did not mention matching wires. One side is smooth and one is ribbed. While with most two prone plugs there is a large spade on one side and definitely with a three prong ground plug , it is a good idea to match the wires when reconnecting.

    Hi Steve,
    My question is, how do you add a motion sensor to this set up? I would like the motion sensor to be tripped and my music and wiper motor to kick on at the same time. Tank you.

    • @TheMakersCave
      @TheMakersCave  2 года назад

      This is the one downfall of this setup. The pins on the sound card are looking for a LOW (negative) signal to activate. The motion sensors that I like to use, and most people use, put out a HIGH (positive) signal when tripped. I have a new sound card that I found that has a built in motioni sensor with a busy line (to activate the relay) and it even rotates through the sounds if there is more than one sound. I'm going to be doing a video on this card this week. If you are handy with IC chips you could use a hex inverter, like a 7404, to change the sensor from a HIGH to a LOW.

    Can you use the normally closed position on the relay to play an ambient sound while the prop is not activated?

    • @TheMakersCave
      @TheMakersCave  Год назад +1

      Absolutely, have the ambient sound play on another pin, have the NC terminal connected to this pin. Then that file will play when not activated. The file will lay again when it’s finished.

    Hey Steve, I really like your videos, they are very helpful to someone like me, with no real electrical experience. I have the circuit wired with the deer motor and sound card and it triggers a child sized skeleton in a child’s rocking chair. My question, is there a way to start the sequence, besides touching the lead to the sound card. ie: can this be wired with a manual switch, or better a remote control?

    • @TheMakersCave
      @TheMakersCave  2 года назад

      It sure can! Using an inexpensive wireless relay you can actually activate the relay and have a different sound depending on which button you push on the remote. I'll do video on it.

    I have a monster in a box and need to trigger a light with a 3 prong plug, a wiper motor, and sound. I have the audio board kit with 5v relay from grave decor and trying to figure out how many relays that would require and if the 5v relay will work or do I need to order 12v relays. Thanks

    • @TheMakersCave
      @TheMakersCave  Год назад +1

      The 5V relays are called that because their electronics runs on 5V, that's not a limitation on what the relay terminals (Com, NO, NC) can handle. If you have 12V props, then yes, you would need two power supplys, 5V for the relays/PIR and 12V for motors and other 12V items. The relays would make the connections so the 12V stuff will operate. I would recommend one realy for each item, but you could split the relay trigger to go to each of the relays activation terminal (IN). That way one PIR can trigger three relays.

      What does one have to do to make it pause and reset before it plays the next pin? I bought a couple of the 3 watt board wired up with headers..changed the mp3 files.....when I play back audio it goes from 1 Pin Activated, and so on to Pin 8 and then loops again...same thing when I use my mp3 files.. Great video - I'm a beginner and this was a fantastic video to help on the learning curve.

      @@TheMakersCaveas long as your power supply has enough amps you could use a 12 volt power supply and use a buck converter to step down to the 5 volts and therefore get away with one power supply.
      Van oaks has a video on wiring step down converters. You can get ones that step down to a fixed 5 volt and also adjustable ones if you want to wire battery operated props into you dc wired system.

    If i wanted to add a motion sensor where would that go?

    • @TheMakersCave
      @TheMakersCave  Год назад +1

      Unfortunately the sound card is looking for a LOW signal to activate and the PIR's commonly put out a HIGH signal when triggered. The easiest way is to add another 5V realy to the mix, lets call it a PIR Relay. The NO (normally open) and Com (Common) terminals of the PIR replay would be connected to one of the sound board's sound pins and the other to the sound board's Grd (ground) pin. The PIR would trigger the PIR relay, making a connection between the sound pin and ground. That will make that sound play. That inturn makes the sound board's BUSY pin go LOW, activating the sound board's realy, making the prop/sound/action happen. Our all-in-one sound and motion sensor board is really good at doing all this for you, but sadly, we sold out of those quickly and they won be back in stock until the week AFTER Halloween. How's that for bad timing. Here's a link to the instructions I just made: gravedecor.com/download/add-pir-to-sound-card
