If the Ukrainian generals are not telling anyone what they have and what they are doing then they are doing what they are supposed to do.
Because the war isn't really going their way. Russia is winning and the west doesn't want to hear it.
Keep your enemy guessing and in the dark.
Whatever they did they will probably produce 3-4 plausible cover stories that entirely untrue. The Russians aren’t the only ones who know to deceive in war.

Also Russians have learned their kessons. Konashenko has been quite quiet lately

If it was F-16s, why didn't Russia pick them up on both ground radar and their aircrafts radar? They have always announced any Nato escalation in the past. F-16 is not a stealth aircraft.
Air Force Vet here. Spoofing EW is a high intensity action. Robin Olds, Wild Weasels. The less competent radar techs and a top down command structure is also a weakness. I wonder how we'll learn about SDGLB arrival in the battle space..

One moore thought from me. Some former F-16 pilots have said that they would fly F-16 in Ukraine if they would have the oppertunity to do so.
That’s very low probability, but not impossible.
I assume you mean retired pilots, not pilots currently flying for their respective air forces. There is zero chance of a pilot actively flying for his country’s armed forces to be detached to the Ukrainian Air Force to participate in hostilities. That would be escalatory and the same as a declaration of war.
Even retired F-16 pilots would be an excuse for the Russians to escalate if it was discovered. This is why I think it is low probability we will see it happen. Using non-Ukrainian pilots is unnecessary. The Ukrainian AF does not have a pilot shortage. It has an aircraft shortage. Furthermore, if reports are to be believed, experienced Ukrainian pilots have been training on the F-16 over the past year. So there is very little benefit to taking the risk of escalation.
However, there is a factor that raises the probability. These missions are being flown well behind the frontlines, so there would be very little chance of a foreign retired pilot being shot down over Russian held territory. If the Russians managed to shoot down an aircraft with such a pilot, the Russians wouldn’t be able to capture the pilot or recover their body. They wouldn’t have proof of this sort of foreign intervention.
I think we can rule it out your suggestion, but we can’t completely rule it out. And we can’t rule it out going forward if the situation changes.
@@MarcosElMalo2 escalation...? Are the ruzzians going to bomb civilians?
I agree, but since there is no “war” per Russia, the chance of it being a “declaration of war” seems less.
Also, while I am able to believe that Ukrainian pilots are skillful, one year in-type would not be nearly as effective as a veteran Viper pilot.
But overall, I agree it is unlikely.

Thank you Anders. Nice perspective, have a great break and a happy New Year
Yes, the first episode is easily explainable, but the last one near Mariupol is harder to fit the Patriot story. We saw a couple of weeks ago Germany announce giving Ukraine its 3rd Patriot battery, so it makes sense they would have put in in Mikolaiv where it can at least partially cover several cities (and the flight path for Black Sea-launcher cruise missiles ) and the front line near the river. At first operation it would have caught the Russians by surprise. There is a history of not announcing things until after first use. There may well be a couple of F16s delivered first for in country testing before the bulk get delivered.
I also believe it is plausible, but would also consider MBDA's Italo-French SAMP/T (MAMBA) which Macron committed, specially for the 2nd case. It is also a high performance SAM system in a more versatile packaging than Patriot, to be moved.

Anders, kudos for your comprehensive analysis of Putin's Xmas parade of jet fighter aircraft losses. Russia also has lost 200 Pilots since the start of Putin’s SMO and the number of trained replacements has dwindled. The Dutch disclosure that Ukraine is about to receive 18 F-16s has spawned a wave of F-16-aphobia in Russia. In response to the recent shoot-downs, Russia’s Ministry of Defense immediately launched its obligatory epistimological-warfare epistle, claiming they shot down six F-16s, three French hens, two turtle doves, and a partridge in a pear tree.
Shoigu and Gerasimov miss their buddy Pregozhin… together with Putin they were the three lying birds and the leader of the Russian army

Watching this for the first time in March and I haven't heard anything about F16s arriving yet, so it probably wasn't F16s.
Based on first announcements and given a reasonable training and logistics window I would say f16's certainly should be in the battle space by now. And don't forget Ukraine has data from awacs etc so should be very aware of Russian Aircraft movements I would have thought.
Too bad the story is debunked and even western countries admitted no F-16s are operational in Ukraine yet. Claiming something on the internet and using old photos doesn’t make it true 🤡
In your opinion, would awacs be able to give Ukraine enough warning of an attack by Su35's to be able to launch an F16's to a position where the F16 could spot, target and launch a missiles, before Russia gets it's SU35's to it's bomb drop point?
To keep the F16's safe the need to be stationed up near Slovakia which is 500km away from where it needs to launch the missile.
Ukraine has no AWACS so who's aircraft are they? If they're NATO aircraft i thought NATO wasn't in this war please make it make sense.
@@benjones43651. Yes, and so could the SAM radars stationed throughout Ukraine.
2. F-16s won’t have to be stationed that far west. As long as you don’t leave them just parked in neat rows on an air base, like Ruzzia does, aircraft are actually very hard to hit with cruise missiles. Ruzzia failed miserably to take out Ukraine’s Air Force on the ground in February 2022, and Ukraine’s air defenses are much better now.

@pragmaticskepticThe Easter Bunny is more believable than Russia winning the war conventionally.
Do you guys have any fucking evidence for the destroyed planes?
It was never possible, not in a million years, for Ukraine to win anything: you have to be braindead to believe that. And 100%, there is misinformation coming from both sides. However you have to face reality: Ukraine has been winning the "media front" while Russia is winning on the battlefield. That's just a fact and there's no way around it.
First time watching a video on this channel. Good & coherent theory crafting! I'm very keen to learn how they did it.
Thanks.Very good update!
The longer this conflicts goes, the more am I convinced that if Ukraine got the right equipment early in the war and in sufficient numbers, they would have already claimed back their original teritory. Ukraine had a huge momentum in the first year of the war and the Russian military, which made some very serious miscalculations and suffering from their idiotic leadership, still didn't addapt to the reality of a long and prolonged war.
The situation now though, is very different sadly and as the military leadership of Ukraine correctly said, the battlefield is more or less a stalemate. The Russians simply had the time to dig in, build their defences and they did take some lessons from their previous failures. Not enough to overwhelm Ukraine. But enough to hold their positions and even gain some initiative.
And yet, in this crucial moment western support is dropping for Ukraine.
Support is not really dropping, the MAGA Russian stooges and insurrectionists in congress are blocking it. Yes Mike, I'm looking at you in the first place.
Is dropping because the west only has so much to give. Meanwhile, Russia moved to war time production and it winning. They've held the terroritories they want.
Sadly this is just one of the downsides of democracy over an authocracy.
An autocrat can just say "ok boys, start loading everything up and ship it over!".
In a democracy nothing happens instantly, everything requires debate, evaluation, then more debate, then budget needs to be found which required even more debate, then everyone needs to argue and make sure to signal to their base that they got the most out of the deal and didn't let the opposition get one over on them and only then the burocracy can shift into action to figure out how to actually make what was agreed in the achieved compromise happen.
And all troughout that process every single party has a voice and gets a voice, even the fringe ones that are for whatever reason against what is being tried to accomplish, and who will use it to make a statement and milk it for all the media attention they can.
And that is just on the domestic level in every small country involved. Meanwhile the same thing is going on on the international stage, especially in the EU. Where people like orban can frustrate the process endlessly, hesitant countries need to be persuaded and the ones leading each country need to be able to come home to their domestic public like they have been tough negotiators against other eu countries and don't seem weak in order to make sure they are still electable in the next elections.
This just results in what we have seen happening here.
The exceptions here are basicly just the usa and to some extent the uk. They still have this outdated 2 party winner take all political system. Where only 2 relevent parties are involved that are big enough that it hurts them to be against the morally right thing to do.
They could theorethicly hammer out an agreement between the 2 parties over a weekend between just the top handful of party leaders and make the rest of the parliament fall in line.
That is why the usa and uk basicly have been on in front with offering support first.
On the other hand, if agreements are eventually hammered out in places like european countries and the eu they are also very reliable and set in stone. Very little can then still frustrate them, like we see now in the usa. Once an agreement and a course of action is written up and signed and the burocracy is set in motion and gets moving it simply executes on it. The money and resources are pledged and everyone is locked in and will be executed as agreed upon.
These are simply symptoms of political structures. Democracy has many bennefits, but it certainly also has it's drawbacks for sure.
Shame on the GOP and Orban!
ukraine was armed a trained by Nato and they lost, they were then given more arms and trained again they lost, Western equipment has been shown to fail and not be suitable for conditions in Ukraine. Whatever The west has Russia has too. In addition Russia has the best air defences in the world. They have better drones, they have supersonic missiles of sorts. Their equipment is simpler and easier to maintain while those of the west are overly complex and cost far more. the west cannot produce munitions at the same rate and cost as Russia (and China can.) they have lost the engineering workforce skills.
According to Thomas Theiner...
They are swapping out the radars on the F-16 for Ukraine!
As the only readily available radars are the AN/APG-68 the US Air Force is replacing, Ukraine will get F-16 able to shoot down russian jets at the maximum distance of the AIM-120.
