Checked all the 70s Hornet Hatchback sales brochure no mention of a concealed lockable flat floor in the trunk option.
My 1976 Hornet Hatchback X didn’t have a lockable flat floor in the trunk area.

Lou, a very rare car - even in the day. My first car was a factory-ordered '76 Hornet 'X" package with a 304 V8.
It was essentially the same car as the AMX Hornet featured here minus some cosmetics.
These cars actually had a very capable chassis. All engines of the era were smogged down, including the AMC's.
With that being said, these cars would run with anything in their class in the day. Still pissed-off the guys running Fords, GM's, and Mopars. It still makes me chuckle all these years later...
Terrific find Lou... a trip down memory lane for me.✌🏼

Lou, I don't know if I love AMC's so much because they're awesome cars, or if I just feel sorry for them. Bit of both I guess. The 70's hatchbacks with the camper tent option is something you hardly saw when these cars were new, so to see one now is a real treat. The spare tire makes for a nice pillow though! Cool video Lou, keep up the good work!

Wow that was fun video to watch. I had the same car, same color with the 304. So rare to see one now. Mine had black interior. It was pretty sporty back in the day. The poor quality sheet metal in cars of that era caused most to rust out. Also the plastics didn’t hold up well. That one was really loved. Great job to the owner. Considerably rarer than some older cars.

There is nothing to do, Mr. Wunrow was the one destined to take this magnificent AMC Hornet in Sunshine Yellow! The AMX package makes it look quite attractive and sporty; but the most pleasant surprise was the small factory-optional tent (they did well not to disturb the friendly Pink Panther resting peacefully in the back! Haha). A nice interior, in brown, with a good layout of the instruments and sports style seats. As always, the collection of magnificently preserved brochures and manuals is extraordinary. This vehicle, and its history behind it, were very interesting! Best regards, Lou!

I love AMC cars - no one did so much with so little than AMC. The Hornet was a very dependable car and the two door hatch was so practical. The AMX is okay but I'm not fond of the yellow in this. Also thought the targa bar on top looked out of place, but I guess AMC didn't have much to work with and this was the best they could do. Nice car nonetheless and thanks for sharing, Lou!

Very nice, congrates to the owner. I bought a new 74 Hornet Hatchback when I was 16, came from the factory with the 75 front end grille . Color was called Mellow Yellow. Also had the 258 engine. Would have loved to had AC. I added Hooker headers which were true dual exhaust running thru Hush Thrush mufflers. Loved this car, it survived my youth well. Kept it till 1979 when I traded in for a new 79 Mercury Capri hatchback (Was a Mustang offered by Mercury.)

I think I've mentioned my connection with AMC here before, but to recap - My step mother's first husband was an exec for a Canadian branch factory in Canada. They made seating and interior parts (which is how I met Colin Chapman at a party. He was in Canada making a deal with AMC to produce some interior parts for LOTUS.)
Anyways, the ex-wife had made a deal with him to get a new car every couple years and we always got some "bottom of the line" Hornet or Pacer. Some terrible memories of sweating it out in those non AC cars. My dad drove Lincoln's fergawds sakes! Air Con was STANDARD EQUIPMENT!!
The really good AMC models were really good (except for rust) but the bottom rung stuff was basically one step above Soviet Bloc product.

I had 2 Sunshine Yellow '77 Hornet AMX's back in the 80's. Both were 258 2V 6-cylinder automatic cars. My 1st one was black interior, and those standard wheels. My 2nd one was tan interior like that, but the aluminum wheels. That tent option was called a Hornets Hutch, both of mine had the inside hood release, and is that dealer installed A/C? Both of mine had factory A/C, and a package shelf under the dash. I've never seen one with that big box with vents in it under the dash like that?

The days of malaise. When they would just slap some stickers on a Cutlass and now it's a 442. Or a "Mustang II Cobra" which has to be the ultimate example of.. an antonym, lol. And here we have a Hornet with some stickers slapped on it to make it an AMX! Or orange pinstripes on an LTD II to make a "GT" so that it would be "sporty" lol.

Interesting how the car would be a bit like the "Mad Max" car if it was black, had wider factory wheels and had a '69 AMX factory super stock engine under the hood.
