Finally, I found it! I've been trying to find this show but all I could really remember from seeing it as a kid was that one of the robots REALLY liked rice balls and made a giant one once.
I spent years trying to figure out what this show was called because I was really young when I started watching it, and I just finished it recently and it's like finally getting closure to a twenty year old mystery
I'm probably one of the few long-time Gundam fans out there who would honestly put this up there with the other, more serious ones. I don't even know what the big appeal was for me, I just really liked this one.
I know that a majority of the people don't like this show because they are gundam fans who like the nature of the dark themes of the gundam franchise as a whole. What I don't get is how they are bashing it so much! Guys, this is a KIDS show, for crying out loud! It's supposed to be childish, light-hearted, and fun! I actually liked this series, because there's a kid inside me who remembers cute cartoons like these - and as a gundam fan, I like it even more!
I used to watch this back in like 2004 or something on fridays it brings back memories of my early teen years. I always liked this show because of the opening I have to say as well and the last fade out seconds of this theme will remain with me forever.
god this show was amazing, I don't even care that its a kids show. I still end up on the floor in tears over the season 1 finale at age 20, and this song is the most inspiring thing I have ever heard.

hell, get through both seasons and this show progresses from light hearted to totally dark, especially at the ends of both seasons. Cobramaru was actually set to kill himself at one pt, that's pretty dark and that scene got cut from the US release
Gundam 08th MS team, an Gundam Unicorn, fairly short series but where else do you get to see a sup up Gouf swinging around and a gundam more decked then Heavy Arms
I agree with you I don't care what anyone says this is a great show the characters are memerable the stories are creative the animation was really good for the time and it took a very risky new look on the gundam francise and for me it really pays off and is still my favorite gundam show

I CAN'T BELIEVE i FOUND IT! I HAD LONG GIVEN UP ON EVER FINDING THIS SHOW AGAIN, BUT THANKS TO Mother's Basement's video on english anime openings he referenced the name of the series. I don't remember much about this show after so many failed a search attempts, but I do remember it filled the void G Gundam left for me.

I agree this was a very different take on the gundam francise but personally I think it's great it's my favorite gundam show. It has it's flaws sure but the writers did there job very well the characters are memorable the action is strong and the second season has several dark themes to it.

not only that the original creator of gundam actually prefers animes to be light hearted and fun which is why the 1st half of ZZ gundam was the way it was until it got darker in the 2nd half of it
Also, Sunrise and Bandai probably wanted to get in new gundam fans - the kids! So they'll research and see that the gundam franchise is bigger than they thought it was (e.g. UC Century, AUs), and so begins a whole new generation of gundam fans. That being said, they can't obviously entertain EVERYONE, so I find it nice that they're trying to entertain both kids and a more mature audience to this series that is comparable to Star Trek or Star Wars, imo (with its detailed stories and all).
If you want to introduce your kids to Gundam, this is the show. Wouldn't want to scar them with war just yet.
