Octopus also do the death after reproducing thing a lot. Males almost always enter senescence and rapidly age to death (depending on species). and females often guard their eggs, blowing water over them with her little water jet thing, and doesn't go out seeking food durring their aging, and often also dies right around the time the babies are born.
I feel like the first octopus species to evolve out of this pattern will be the dominant technological civilization of the seas a couple million years later.
also worth mentioning that the praying mantis thing was only observed in captivity, when they were under a lot of stress, and even then it didn't happen very often. afaik its basically never been observed in the wild
On the Cubone talk, it's actually very common for a lot of animals that one or even both parents die not just when the thier kids are born but as a result of it. Many parents in nature will die soon after thier children are born or reach the point they can be independent and thus is because their death actually improves the childs survival odds. So i've alway seen it as Cubone mothers just naturally die because their child getting their bones as armor and a weapon means they'll have a better chance of living to have their own children. It's just a natural part of their life cycle. Maybe even the moms will have their mother's skulls and they pass that on to their children so some Cubone are running around with a skull that's be passed down for generations like a heirloom.
Dump Goat has inspired me to spread the word to those who have never seen the Garbage Goat of Spokane. Less dark take on Cubone I’ve seen before: it wears its mother’s skull, but NOT the one in her head; it’s just a skull the mom found/took possession of and saved to pass on to her offspring.
Some dex entries mention a legendary marowak graveyard and alolan marowak have some form of ancestor 'worship' (hence the ghost type) so they could very well have spare skulls lying around
There was also the theory that Marowak heads are vestigial, and that the mother leaves one behind to conceal or feed her babies and then goes into hiding with the dad to protect her while her head regrows. Cubone just assumes its mom is dead and holds onto the skull.
fun fact! Portmanteau is indeed a portmanteau. It's French "porte" (to carry") and "manteau" ("cloak/coat"). It's the French word for a suitcase that is two pieces into one.
Like two divorced parents, they put aside their differences (which are too numerous to name) so they could be there to support their child, beef kitten.

In universe, you could say dumptruck designs were based on Dumpgoat. People were inspired by Dumpgoat's positive impact on the environment because of his (compulsive) cleaning / eating trash, that they decided to copy him to make that impact greater. They desugned the "dumptruck", based on dumpgoat's looks and skills.
Dumpgoat should be a Gogoat+Trubbish evolution like Slowbro. The little trash inside could have been some Trubbish in there! Great job everyone, loved the Pokemon and laughed a ton of times.
I had to look up the Lizard Born on Snake Island thing because I didn’t know what it was and HOLY SHIT Willie wasn’t wrong about it being an action movie-level thing.
I've always thought the Cubone lore was untenable mostly because of how it plays out in the game mechanics: you can just breed cubone/marowak and the mother doesn't die, but they have skulls when they're born anyways. I think whoever wrote that pokedex entry made it up and had no clue what they were talking about
For Beef Kitten i was thinking of calling it "Beefitten" and it's a Bodybuilder strong beefy cat but made of soft squishy meat that allows it to squeeze into tight spaces because cats love to do that.
Episode idea: One artist draws something and the other 3 render it. Each in their own style, So there's 3 different renders of the same original sketch.
Squirtle is both squirt with turtle but also squirrel and it has a little squirrel tail! The translators really went way beyond the beyond with some of the pokenames.
Just realized that a “grief lizard” Pokemon, or creature in general, could very easily be a lizard that’s grieving one of its limbs being lost / it’s tail being lost or something considering that lizards are known to drop their tails / regrow limbs. Like we’ve all seen a crying lizard (Sobble) but what if the lizard was crying AND waving around it’s severed tail like a sword, or hugging it, or something like that
05:19 There are so many pictures of real-life Anglerfish, and they went with the ones from Outer Wilds... Like I'm not even mad, this game deserves more shoutouts. But I genuinely wonder if this one was intentional.
I’m pretty sure that Beefkitten is the nightmarish end result of Garfield refusing to leave his box bed while continuing to eat copious amounts of meaty lasagna.
19:20 ok, but I've had the same theory for a while. Like, Nintendo and Gamefreak have too much pride to try and buy an artist's designs, so they double down and try to make something no one would think of. But also whenever a starter gets released the internet is ready to make all these cool potential evolutions and whenever it happens now gamefreak has to be all "Well they made a really cool 4 legged tiger, guess we gotta do another furry so its different"
This is very relatable, because I once called someone "beef kitten", and then they just jumped out of the window and fell in a bumpster. And then the local dump goat started choosing on their ears.
Dumpgoat (Normal, Steel) Ability: Noxious (status effect only moves are more powerful, Immune to Poison moves) Grifzard (Dark, Water) Ability: Depression (Reduce PP consumption of all Pokémon on field, -1 stage Evasion/Crit%/Accuracy for opposing team; Nullified by oblivious) Beefkitten (Normal) Ability: Beefy (has the Resistances, but not weaknesses, of Fighting type. 33% chance each turn to increase Normal and Fighting move Power by 150%).
I love all these fakémon. Grizzard is so well designed with a lovely color palette. Dumpgoat gives me vibes of something created to be marketed to 5-year-old boys. Beefkitten is a very upsetting shade of red.
Speed Draw Suggestion: Finishing off *each others CHILDHOOD drawings* Similar to the 'Finishing each others line art' episode. But adding in the old 'Redrawing our childhood drawings' episodes. Interpreting each others childhood scribbles into full artistic beauty ~☆
Cubone (and a lot of Pokémon, actually) make a lot more sense if you look at their dex entries as a short recording of the most common folktale about them. A cultural explanation for a natural phenomenon in the same way there are stories about the crow once having white feathers but getting burned black, and having a croaking voice due to the smoke it inhaled. A sort of origin story for the species. If you add “and ever since, cubones have worn skulls on their heads” to the end of their description it reads just like one of those stories.

can't believe nothing happened to any of the hosts this time! love karina's new nickname!
Beef kitten is just Incineroar
WILLIE IS HERE! I always love it when they have Willie on the channel!
do we know who drew willie's drawfee portrait? it intrigues me every time i see it. what is the story there.
Did he not draw it himself? I thought all guests portraits were drawn by the guest
I think whoever wrote that pokedex entry made it up and had no clue what they were talking about
Nah, the PokeFarms or whatever just have a stockpile of pokeskull on hand for such situations.
No hunter can approach it
@@Thorngotthey kill half the prole to harvest the skulls in captivity
8:31 when you've lived long enough for the Grief Dog™ to go fro Old Yeller to Marley & Me. 🙃
Also Where the Red Fern Grows
For Beef Kitten i was thinking of calling it "Beefitten" and it's a Bodybuilder strong beefy cat but made of soft squishy meat that allows it to squeeze into tight spaces because cats love to do that.
The Pokedex entry for Dumpgoat should be: "It has dumps like a truck, truck, truck."
33:40 oh COME ON JULIA!! The Beef Cat needs to be GROUND TYPE! GROUND BEEEEEFFF!!!!
If you still use Photoshop, I wanted to make sure you know about the controversy of their latest update, section 4.2 of TOS!
Episode idea:
One artist draws something and the other 3 render it.
Each in their own style, So there's 3 different renders of the same original sketch.
Four Americans talking about beef kitten, not realizing that Mettigel (minced-meat hedgehog) is a very real thing
Squirtle is both squirt with turtle but also squirrel and it has a little squirrel tail! The translators really went way beyond the beyond with some of the pokenames.
🎶 Dumpgoat changing to try and please me. You’ve never let me down before 🎶
🎶 Dumpgoat chasing waterfalls...🎶
🎶Dumpgoat breaking my heart 🎶
🎶Dumpgoat living in movie. Hot trash, Daddy's little cutie 🎶
I bet Dumpgoat hangs out with Cat Bus.
I was waiting for Nathan to realize sad lizard is sobble
I always assumed that Marowak's skull is like a shell or exoskeleton, but Cubone's don't grow them yet. So Cubone wears a molted Marowak "skull"
Just realized that a “grief lizard” Pokemon, or creature in general, could very easily be a lizard that’s grieving one of its limbs being lost / it’s tail being lost or something considering that lizards are known to drop their tails / regrow limbs. Like we’ve all seen a crying lizard (Sobble) but what if the lizard was crying AND waving around it’s severed tail like a sword, or hugging it, or something like that
I can't believe Karina would rather be in her pokeball than interact with Willie 😢
Dumpgoat (Normal, Steel)
Ability: Noxious (status effect only moves are more powerful, Immune to Poison moves)
Grifzard (Dark, Water)
Ability: Depression (Reduce PP consumption of all Pokémon on field, -1 stage Evasion/Crit%/Accuracy for opposing team; Nullified by oblivious)
Beefkitten (Normal)
Ability: Beefy (has the Resistances, but not weaknesses, of Fighting type. 33% chance each turn to increase Normal and Fighting move Power by 150%).
I love Willie episodes, I know some people don’t like him but I think he’s great
I love all these fakémon. Grizzard is so well designed with a lovely color palette. Dumpgoat gives me vibes of something created to be marketed to 5-year-old boys. Beefkitten is a very upsetting shade of red.
Speed Draw Suggestion: Finishing off *each others CHILDHOOD drawings*
Similar to the 'Finishing each others line art' episode.
You know you're about to get a 3 minute Willy outro when the Patreon names move that slowly
Oh another classic Willie episode. The chaos he bring is unmatched
30:13 Willie noooo don’t sign that contract!! It’s not worth the cartoon torture 😭🙏
25:06 Another fact: Goats don’t actually eat metal cans. They just eat the labels. They probably also hate chewing on tin.
portmanteau is the ship name for Natalie Portman x Jacques Cousteau
I can't believe that whole beef kitten thing happened with that design and everything and it didn't just end up as Garfield.
Watching this at 1:30 am as I'm about to sleep and thought that the thumbnail said pump and dump goat
I love falling asleep to drawfee its like falling asleep with your friends in the next room over
The clear answer for 100 percent of Cubone Mother's being dead is that they die during Child Birth of sorts. That's where my mind goes at least 😅
I love when Willie is on!!
