Throwing it in the dirt effectively can get them out if they try to swing at it. Vladimir Guerrero was particulary adept at hitting pitches away from the zone consistenly - especially low and high pitches. He once hit a pitch that actually bounced in front of the plate and still got a hit out of it on the short-hop! Look it up here on RUclips!
