- Pokemon toys and trading cards have always had clones. But the explosion of Pokemon Go has the Dark Side toy makers do everything they can to leech a quick buck and deprive Nintendo of their money. The fake Lego sets are average but do have some good simple Pokemon designs. Pokemon plush toys and trading cards are possibly two of the most common knockoff Pokemon items. If your not careful you may be fooled by a online sale where real and fake items are mixed together. Online sales sites like ebay do pages that help buyers identify fake Pokemon toys, but in the end it's alway buyer beware.

If you see ebay auctions with a cheap price on a popular or rare Pokemon toy that is a red flag that something is wrong!
Beware of Hong Kong & China try to do north America only in ebay searches and that will eliminate many bootlegs from your search results (Japan is fine) BUT thats not always going to exclude the fake toy sellers. Ebay sadly harbours many dodgy sellers who make easy money from people who don't understand a real toy vs fake.
Many TOMY figures have a seam that runs along part of the body. When produced by TOMY (these figures are made in two separate pieces and glued together in production.) When a bootlegger casts his or her own mold from a legitimate figure, the seam will either be diminished, or disappear entirely. You can see an example on the photos attached on Nidoran (the left is a genuine TOMY figure, the one on the right is a bootleg.) Another indicator is the depth and sharpness of the TOMY logo. ("When a bootlegger makes their own mold from an existing figure, the sharper details will lose their edge and depth during the mold-making process. Here you can see the logo on a bootleg Pinsir figure. It is less deep and sharp than a genuine TOMY, especially around the last few letters on the right side.")
When looking at Pokemon Plush toys you really need to know what tags to look out for. But even TOMY toy company tags can be cloned. In the end look for good stitching, good design, shape and colour and if it's a cheap price be very aware. Many real Pokemon plush toys come in display boxes, knockoff plush seem to never have a display box.

It's says Pokemon go on the package to get kids attention. It's actually isn't as the some Pokemon in the set aren't even from Pokemon Go. Pokemon go only consists of the first Generation of Pokemon.

The Mudkip you had in box isn't the only Mudkip plush that was made. Tomy isn't the only company that has made Pokemon licensed toys & plushies Your so-called fake is actually a Japan Pokemon Center Plush, meaning you actually destroyed an actual liscenced toy.
It's probably a knockoff of the Pokemon Center plush. I have a MLP pony that almost looks like the real thing, but cheaply made.

Many of the fake Pokemon figures that you bought were directly copied from existing molds of Jakks Pacific/ Tomy Pokemon figures 14:14 - the Sudowoodo (tree lookalike figure) came out in 2007-2008 in the same release as the larger Pikachu. Some came from PokeBall sweets sets from those years as well.
If I could suggest RUclipsrs to do this, ShukuenShinobi (specializes in both cards/figures) and UnlistedLeaf (specializes in cards) are very knowledgeable about the figure and cards respectively so if you could get in contact with them, I'm sure they could do a detailed video on the surplus cards/figures.
It's horrible to see fakers attack Pokémon like this. They'll try anything to con a quick buck from unsuspecting parents just trying to please their child.

Leo, both mudkips were actually quite real! The "fake" Mudkip was actually from an official Nintendo licenced brand called Pokemon Center. I have many plushes that I've collected over the years from them and have never been let down once. I could understand why you would think there's a difference because clearly the design. Pokemon Center toys are supposed to have that squished and compacted feel to it, TOMY is a different story! I do understand that it is hard to differentiate between darkside and non darkside plushes but I was just pointing this out to you!!

I am in the toy industry and a good way to tell if it's a knock off is if the packaging is really easy to open.

The Mudkip might actually have been real. Just very used and old. The tags do check out, as well as searching around for 2008 Mudkip plushes. The one in the video is just a bit off color, could easily be because of the age and whatnot.

Plot Twist - That Mudkip plushie actualy was original but pretty old, thus obviously was different from "fresher" release. "Made in China" is not a way to tell if something is counterfate when every company and their mothers have factories in China.

The flammability of the plush toys is a give-away that they are knock-offs. Any official plush toys are far more flame resistant as a basic safety measure, given their use by children.

To all the people saying that the Pokemon Centre Mudkip is a legit one, it is not. Their ones are better proportioned, legs aren't so small.

The fake mudkip is a freaking Pokédoll. The "real" one is a Trainer's Choice line. The REAL Pokédoll one DOES look like that. :p Fail.
I see some people are getting upset because they thought the Mudkip plush was real...but don't you worry. It is a knockoff, but it's a knockoff of a Pokemon Center one.
A. It was bought from an Aussie flea market. Legit ones are usually only available from Japanese Pokemon Center stores.
B. Even well-loved Pokedolls have good stitching and fabric - this one looked very cheaply made, especially round the back of the head. The legit Mudkip Pokedoll has a rounder, plumper head - this one's head looked squished and the stitching was dodgy. Leo even remarks in the video it didn't feel very nice in the hand.
C. The tush tag VERY closely replicates the real Pokedolls it's quite scary, BUT there's one telltale sign with this particular Mudkip. This knockoff is dated 2008 on the tush tag. The 2008 Mudkip Pokedoll was a 10th Anniversary release and has a different tag from the standard Pokemon Center tag seen - the real one has a tushtag with a blue Pikachu on it.
