The story at the end reminded me of the news article about that man who boots up his old XBOX from time to time in order to race against his father's ghost lap. Been a long-time viewer of this channel and I remember you having mentioned in some of your older videos that your mother had at different times bought you both a PlayStation and N64 when you were growing up. It's amazing how technology allows us (in subtle, yet tangible ways) to feel a connection to our friends and relatives who have passed. Really sorry for your loss mate.
Thank you for covering the topic of watching Blurays, DVDs, and lack of CDs on this. I hadn't heard anyone else cover that. It's nice to hear the Xbox has some valid strengths this generation in comparison to that disastrous Xbox One launch.
That part about your mom is awesome man. I totally get it and would view it the exact same way. My condolences but I'm very happy you were able to get that last game console from your mom.
Your channel is important because man I feel your in that perfect line of straddling a poignant honest well done review and criticism, and everyday regular gamer. The fact you just now got one solidifies this, but your compassion for gaming is on the level of the big dogs who get all the attention do.
As a little tip you can just connect the PS4 directly to the PS5 via LAN with nothing inbetween, that's what i did and it was pretty fast, although it was confusing that it said it was done when it really wasn't. took a while but i was able to wait for it while using the console. Oh and also the Dualsense does work on PS3! just not the home button which is a shame.
Probably the Dualsense is recognized as a DS4 controller on PS3 which unfortunately have compatibility issues on certain games. The lack of the home button is the least of the concerns since it can be easily averted if you activate Control over HDMI on the PS3 and HDMI CEC on the TV
The obvious cases are ones that have motion control required like Folklore, but many games dont work with controllers that are recognized as DS4 for no good reason and they were never fixed to accept it, like how on Gran Turismo 5 and 6 the controller works fine on menus but stops working on the actual race
@@lordeilluminati I don't think it's specifically recognized as a PS4 controller, the ps3 picks up any directinput controller and just lets you use it via bluetooth or usb to some extent. and yeah motion controls don't work at all which is kind of expected, it's by no means my standard controller on PS3 cause i really like the Dualshock 3, also for some wierd reason why i run a PS2 Disc the console freezes as soon as it Connects, which doesn't happen for me with a PS4 or even Switch pro controller. Do you know of a game that doesn't work with the DS4 on PS3? i'd be curious to see if the Dualsense does work with em.
@@HKT-4300 If what you say is true and I can't use motion controller when playing a PS3 game with the Dualshock 4 then the one game that comes to mind is Killzone 2 which does require you to utilize the motion controls at certain points to turn pipes.
I love your story at the end with your mom "buying you one last console". I really enjoyed this video. Normally a video this long I'd save to watch it in parts later, but I watched this one all in the same day. Thank you for your thoroughness, it is much appreciated.
That was a very moving story at the end. We never play games in a vacum, all of this is social and connecting. Sorry for your loss, keep up the great work. You are a great at what you do!
The story you told at the end of the video really hit home. I lost my mother 19 years ago and I think about her everyday. Great video and I'm sure you've been told to invest in dark plates and the center skin. MATTE BLACK EVERYTHING!!
I will hold out to see how GT7 is. Only franchise that makes me buy new PS consoles, there’s other good games but only GT actually motivates me to buy.
I have had it since launch. Mainly use it as a PS4 pro pro. Kind of bugged that VRR and Dolby Vision aren't features yet. But I still enjoy it a lot. The controller is really premium feeling
@@mtdubdachamp6917 those are the rumors. A lot of people who have been following it seem to suggest that Xbox just shelled out for the license first and it's only a matter of time before Sony pays for it too.
Your ending bit really got me. Having to go through something similar with my mother and father, I completely understand where your coming from. It may not make sense to those who still have their parents in their lives, but it’s a big deal, logical or not.
Glad you mentioned the Cmos battery debacle. People really do seem to have forgotten about it already. I currently have no plans of buying a PS5 for that reason alone. I really hope it gets fixed, but unfortunately it seems Sony's decision to just ignore the problem is working out for them.
Wow. That last story totally smacked me in the feels. My dad passed away a couple of months ago and I’m extremely understanding of that “this was one last (insert special thing here) that they could buy for me”.
I always have a strong link to a console when it's been gifted/partially gifted/or bought with someone. It just adds that extra special bit over consoles I just buy myself.
My mother passed last August, 2 days before my birthday, the recent anniversary has been hard, it's harder now for me then when it first happened. The last game she every got me was Dark Souls Remastered for PS4 but sadly I haven't played it or anything else since she passed as I'm just not able to get into anything. Games was my passion so I hope I can get invested in them again soon, but not at the moment. I still try to keep up with what's going on though. Anyway, I just wanted to you know, the ending of your video really resonated with me and made me reflect of my own mother, and I feel for you man, there is nothing else quiet like this.
Last Christmas, someone got me a Ps5 controller to use on my PC and I have to say that I think its probably one of the best controllers I've ever used. It feels a bit chunky when compared to the slimmer Ps4 controller, but other than that everything feels pretty great.
I could listen to your talk about consoles for hours Adam. I'll be holding off getting one until they revamp/firmware update it. My friend has a launch model & has had a number of issues with his so far most of which you've mentioned. It seems very much as if they're still getting things right. Great video!
To be fair, they did a major system update yesterday. It's possible some of this is improved now. Though harddrive storage unfortunately was not expanded (the internal M.2 was added though).
Right now, Ratchet and Clank is the game that is the best example of what the PS5 can do. The game has amazing visual direction and is also graphically stunning. Those two aspects combine to make a game that in my opinion will never look bad when we look at it in the future. It looks like a high quality animated movie, that is rendered in real time.
@@mtdubdachamp6917 are you saying the loading time takes forever? It’s insanely quick for me just like every other ps5 game. Ghost of Tsushima loads in less than 2 seconds when fast traveling and going in from the main menu. Plus returnal is just a fun as hell rogue like. One of the best I’ve ever played
I got mine on the 3rd, I didn’t really have the same problem. However, I did not transfer anything from my PS4 as I had sold my Pro as soon as my package shipped. I just plugged in my external to my PS5, and everything worked right out of the box. Crazy how we can have completely different experiences with the same hardware and just performing some small things differently. I will also agree that I’d loved how seamless the Series X transition was. Got mine right after New Years.
really? to redownload everything again to my series x from my xbox one took almost a week lol and i still have the xbox one right beside it.. .. couldnt use the brand new console till that was complete. it was a total bummer...
@@lyndza1989 well an external makes it a lot easier. The only thing you really have to download are the Series X upgraded titles. But yeah overall the Xbox route is a lot easier, you dont pay extra to upgrade (most) games, it offers more performance improvements on backwards compatible games, and more 120fps games. I enjoy both consoles but the Xbox really is a more complete experience overall. The PS5 is great for its exclusive content and the little gimmicks it does well, its just a lot less user friendly overall in my opinion.
Never knew about that 8 TB limit. Wonder if this is an issue in the FreeBSD code base which the PS4 as well as the PS5 base their operating system on 🤔 Great review, Adam! 👍
I'm glad I found a PS5 before Sony changed the design and made it cheaper on the inside, it's nice to have but I play on Xbox more but titles like Ratchet and Clank are the main reason I bought it. Also, get the Dbrand Darkplates if you can it looks awesome in black.
I saw unedited gameplay of Shenmue III on the PS5 and it looked pretty good! I'm definitely interested in getting a PS5, but I'll wait until it loses the prototype-y reputation.
I got a Series X because it was marginally easier to track down. No regrets whatsoever, especially since Sony keeps releasing first party games for my PS4
Great video, man! I hope at some point it will allow a 1440p output and I can’t wait until it’s widely available to upgrade the SSD inside. One thing you said was that the PS5 controller doesn’t work on the PS3, but I can confirm that it does. There’s no rumble and the ps button doesn’t work, but other than it functions as a regular ps3 controller. Just thought I’d let you know!
I'm a have to disagree with you on that Dualsense Controller not working on the PS3, it does! However not all games. I tested that out by playing F. E. A. R, Dragkengard 3, Final Fantasy 13 and Genji. The ones that don't work with the Dualsense I tested were all Saint's Row games, Silent Hill HD, All Gran Turismo, Jak and Daxter, NFS the Run and Star Ocean. That along by not using the Dualshock 3 and you still can't get passed the start menu.
Man spiderman miles morales was suck a dissapointment, don't get me wrong it was a good game gameplay wise but there wasn't much to do. If you compare it to the first spiderman 2018, you can tell this game was really meant to be dlc for spiderman 2018 with how lackluster it is in terms of content and you pay more for it on release.
Should’ve been $30 add on at the most. I had no idea when I purchased and was disappointed as well. Glad I got the gold edition and got the remastered Spiderman 2018. They can be found new cheap on eBay every so often.
That thing is gigantic, waiting for the hardware revision, myself. BTW, really like the story of why you waited to get it. Cheers to you and absent friends.
In case you still aren't aware, for Digital Content, you can scroll over to the Far Right on "Game" and it'll list all your games under 3 Categories, first is Installed, split between SSD and External HDD, the Second is "Your Collection" which lists EVERYTHING you've Played/Owned on PlayStation (including your Disc Games surprisingly 🤔) can't remember what the Third Category is.
I just got one, and I agree on the wonkiness and prototype feel of the machine. I have PSVR, and you need to get a special adapter and the VR box doesn't pass HDR through (but it does encode VR in 1080p; the new PSVR will be 4k/60 with HDR). You can tell by the issues with the console, who is the software/computer hardware company (MS) and who is the content company (Sony).
Just FYI the PS5 controller does work on the PS3- it has to be connected with the usb cable, and the rumble and menu buttons don’t work but you can use it to play games.
Interesting review! I got my PS5 a little more than a week ago and i also had problems with the external HDD, it was mostly the same things you mentioned, but there was one other thing, for some reason the patches for disk PS4 games were installed in the internal PS4 drive and the main game data on the external drive, so when i hooked up the drive to the PS5, most of the games were missing the updates. I also had many games that the PS5 couldnt recognize from the drive, so i just decided to completely format the drive and freshly install my game collection. That way i havent run into games uninstalling themselfs lol. So i recommend a freshly formatted external drive for new PS5 owners, that way you will less likely run into bugs. There is another thing i wanted to ask, did you test the noise of the machine while playing demanding PS5 games? (Demon Souls or Miles Morales for example) Im not asking because of the fan, that is mostly silent, but its about an issue called "coil whine". It gives off a buzzing sound when the system is under heavy load and when you exit to the menu it gets quiet. Every PS5 has this issue, however the volume of the sound can be different for each machine, its a lottery and you either get a completely quiet one or a noisy one that can be heared from the distance. I guess i was unlucky, because my PS5 have quite audible buzzing sound even from about 2 meters distance, where i sit from the console. It doesnt bother me too much because i play with headphones and that way this buzzing is completly inaudible, but if i had a soundbar or sound system it could be annoying. This buzzing is really quiet while playing PS4 games or light(not demanding) PS5 games, so its not an issue with those. Anyway im just curious if your console has an audible buzzing sound or not.
Try playing a game you own digitally while the disc drive is empty. My PS5 makes a louder noise when you're first starting up a game and then occasionally spins that disc up creating lesser but noticeable noise. This doesn't happen without a disc.
To me it just seems they redesigned the menu system just for the sake of it. The first time I used it I had to look up how to switch it off - why you have to press the ps button to access what was on the PS4 easily accessible at the top of the screen ….It just feels antiquated with the extra button pushes required. I wish they would switch it back or give the option.
The Playstation 5 controller used to work on the Playstation 3 via Bluetooth, but they updated either the Playstation 3 or the controller to no longer allow it for some odd reason. You can still use it on a Playstation 3 via USB though.
I got my PS5 back in April, and my game transfers from PS4 to PS5 took around 25 minutes. It weird how these new consoles have such a varying degree of consistency. I knew someone that had problems with Miles Morales and Ratchet and Clank (constant crashes), and I never had a single issue.
yeah, only game I want for PS5 not available elsewhere is the remastered Demon's Souls, remake of a PS3 game! Nothing else there I need right now, maybe I will get a PS5 slim a couple of years in the future.
If I had to choose a console instead of going straight to PC, I would definitely choose the Xbox Series X because the CMOS battery makes me less motivated to own a PS5.
Before my PS5 arrived, I already made sure every game was transferred to my PS4's external HDD, and each of my save files on USB. Once I had PS5 in-hand, I just switched out the power and HDMI plugs (only have a 1080p TV so I didn't need to take advantage of HDMI 2.1). I plugged in my external drive, and began transferring saves locally. Was a very easy process!
I don't know if I'll get one. Honestly I stopped at PS3 and Wii U. I'm still playing games for those I haven't got to yet. And it is so nice to just put a game in and go and not have to download for hours. Plus I tend to use Steam for newer games. However I've been debating getting a PS4. I've been waiting for this thing to be available so people will sell off their PS4 for one but everyone is holding onto their PS4s because this is a pain to find. So with the way the PS5 is going we'll see if I get either or just say F-it and get a Switch or nothing at all. As someone who tends to stay a generation or two behind when the new stuff comes out this has been frustrating even for me. I get worldwide shit happened, but they need to get their shit together now.
I think in my case I'll just do what I did with PS4. When PS4 came out, all the games that I was interested in getting were also available on PS3. So for the longest time I just stuck with a PS3 and bought the PS3 versions of games. Over time, PS3 versions were phased out and then I had no choice but to upgrade to a PS4. Likewise, the same thing that happened back then is happening now. All the new games on PS5 that I'm interested in are also available on PS4. Some even have a free PS5 upgrade where if you buy the PS4 game, regardless of whether its digital or physical, you get access to the digital PS5 version for free.
The only one thing the PS5 doesn't actually feel like a prototype is in the price gauging of its games,$70.00 Funny how Sony went to all lengths to get that right but have left everything is a nasty work in progress. lol Good video Adam. Well done.
The only PlayStation Consoles that use a proprietary power supply are the PSOne (PS1 Slim), the first version of the PS2 Slim, I believe the 7000 series. (The 9000 series brought the standard power supply back.) The Fat PS3 doesn't use the Double Barrel Jack, but it does use another power supply that's very common with Desktop Gaming PCs, as well as some TVs and stuff like Guitar Amps. The PS3 Slim and Super Slim use the Double Barrel Jack. Then all versions of the PS4 and PS5 have the double barrel jack.
OMG Adam I'm so sorry for your loss over the years I've lost my brother, father, uncle and both grandparents so I feel your pain I hope you're holding up ok keep gaming and peace forever. i still compare trophies with my brothers PSN account to remind me of the games he used to like to play somehow it's kind of comforting .love the channel btw cheers.
32:20 It should be noted that PS5-upgraded titles, whether with native PS5 versions or through enhanced backwards compatibility ("BC mode 3"), do very often offer 60 fps on PS5. So you essentially get PS4 Pro level visuals at double the framerate, which is definitely a transformative upgrade vs PS4 Pro. You won't notice a difference for still images, but very much in motion resolution, and in input response it's also a significant upgrade. God of War, Days Gone, Ghost of Tsushima, Horizon Zero Dawn, The Last of Us part 2 and a bunch of third party games, not limited to cross gen titles, have free "PS4 Pro graphics at 60 fps" upgrades like this. Sure they're not 100% native PS5 app versions of the games (applies to a game like Jedi Fallen Order as well), but it's still a massive upgrade to take advantage of. For example Horizon Zero Dawn and Ghost of Tsushima look absolutely amazing as is with their respective CB 4k and 1800p HDR PS4 Pro implementations, and then you add a rock solid 60 fps to that (HZD's fps on PS5 is in fact more stable than even the most high-end PC because of hitching/stuttering issues inherent to the PC port). The jump in quality from the free "BC mode 3" in GOT to the native PS5 app is actually pretty negligible (CB 1800p > CB 4K), so in sum I'd say the value of BC mode 3 is almost equally important to consider as native PS5 ports of PS4 games. I find it very odd that you'd only have No Man's Sky and Shenmue 3 out of all the games available for either type of upgrade like it sounds like from what you're saying in the video (could be misunderstanding though).
I don't think you understood what I was saying. Many PS4 games have enhancements on PS5. But only No Man's Sky, of my games, included a PS5 specific build.
That was a sweet ending Adam. It was very touching. Thank you for sharing the pros and cons of the system. Sony is weird. That 8tb external hard drive limit was news to me and just mind-boggling. Glad I learned several neat features today.
You can have 3 external drives on an Xbox Series X. Use a dual drive caddy. One USB cable for 2 dries. When the PS5 is its side with disc drive down the discs go in liable side up.
@@adamlewellen5081 My Vita wound just healed. Don't reopen it 😉 Im with you its great piece of kit with an asinine storage thankfully remedied by henkaku and sd2vita
every generation the jump or difference is smaller. I mean the difference between 8 and 16 bits was amazing. the jump between 16 bits to ps1, saturn and n64 was very big too. the difference between ps1 and ps2 is obvious too. but since ps3 and xbox 360 generation it's "the same but in higher resolution", there's not such a big jump that you can tell by just a screenshot "yes, that's the new generation, the previous one could have never made this".
The days of the obvious graphical leap from 1 generation to the next are long gone now. No real sound quality improvements either. Perhaps a switch form "generations" to a "continuous brand" is the thing to do. But i doubt Microsoft or Sony would be interested in adopting this strategy as they need the heightened media buzz surrounding their consoles launch to hype up the "exclusiveness" of their product. You think Sony are disappointed it's so difficult to obtain a PS5 ?
Sony is miles behind in being convenient, even on PC that some people say things are too much complicated, things are much more smooth, blood hell even using linux I don't have this level of hassle transferring saves, running games, changing installation disks and moving instated software around.
This is the only PS5 Review I have watched in 2021 lol Adam and I always care about all the same features and I found myself nodding quietly to myself the whole review lol
Thanks for the vid, very informative. I managed to get a Series X which I'm really happy with, for now I put an SSD in my PS4 and that made a great improvement, so maybe next year I'll look at getting a PS5.
Buying a PS5 at MSRP at your local retail store is the greatest and satisfying feeling during times like this. It's like you defeated all the scalpers at once and left them in soul-crushing humiliation
The triggers and vibration are really only supported by astrobot and returnal. It is used in some third party games like RE8 but the triggers make the gameplay experience worse if not implemented well. It's still all subjective but the xbox controller still does better for fps. Maybe the triggers will be better used for gran turismo.
I managed to get a Playstation 5 back during the 3rd week of June 2021. First time in my life I could NOT get a mainstream console from a retail store. I had to get the Playstation 5 directly from Sony themselves (long story short: Sony offered me and some others a PS5 for retail price and I said yes. I also got Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart since it was newly released and buying it would give me free shipping for the PS5 console). My favorite PS5 game is ASTRO's PLAYROOM (which comes loaded on the PS5 for free). I STRONGLY recommend playing this game. I was expecting a 20 minute demo and instead got a 5 hour platforming grand adventure that was a glorious, AMAZING experience (the game, despite being a brand new PS5 exclusive, is a crazy nostalgia trip which throws 25 + years of Playstation history at you as you are platforming Astro through the levels. This game is Super Mario Odyssey on crack and cocaine while throwing 25 + years of Playstation history at you... the game especially reaches meth mixed with heroin levels when you reach the Astro's Playroom level where someone, I won't reveal who, is singing THE GPU SONG... and the GPU song will be stuck in your head... for days!!! You will be singing this song in your sleep). I strongly suggest exploring all the levels carefully as you will discover some CRAZY stuff from the PS1, PS2, PS3 and PS4 eras... as well as a glimpse of what the PS5 has to offer. I LOVE Astro's Playroom. On another note: Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart was hands down the best Ratchet & Clank game and an AMAZING experience (it wouldn't surprise me if this wins the 2021 game of the year... it's that damn great). Tons of fun that I strongly recommend (Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart is a MUST play exclusive if you own a Playstation 5). I also picked up some cheap 3rd party PS5 games to expand my library. I played all the following 3rd party games in PERFORMANCE mode (which makes the frame rate go up significantly). Watch Dog Legions (I got it for $20) is a fun sandbox game if you like the idea of being able to play as any NPC in the game (Note: the character selection for the starter characters after the intro area is random, so if you don't like any of the starter characters, start over the opening mission and you'll later see new starter characters). I hated most of my characters, but ended up finding some awesome characters I really liked and kept using and got attached to. Also, I picked up Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX for $30. It's like the Sega Master System game, but with modern day 2D graphics. I personally love it. Finally, I picked up a western style RPG called Greedfall: Gold Edition for $30 brand new. It's very similar to old school Bioware / CDPR RPGs. Every choice you make in the game matters. It's not as good as Mass Effect 2, Witcher 3, etc. But I ended up loving it. It's slow as hell at first and even a little boring, but it got tremendously better later on and I really liked it. It's a Double A game (meaning: it doesn't have the budget of a Triple A game, and it shows) but I still liked it and I want to play it again to see the other story branches. Strongly recommend playing this game in performance mode for the noticably higher frame rate. Also, the free DLC level it comes with is really awesome. On a side note, My PS5 gets HOT. When I take discs out, they are freaking HOT. This has me a little worried, but the PS5 still works perfectly. Also, the PS5 shoots out VERY HOT air (after an hour or two the surface on my wooden table my PS5 is on was HOT as hell). I started using mini-fans: one to cool down the surface of my table and another on the right hand side of my PS5 to try to cool down the disc drive side of the PS5 to help it cool down. Also, it was a struggle to get an external hard drive to work on my PS5. When I first plugged in my eternal hard drive, it didn't want to work with the PS5. I had to put my new external hard drive into my old PS4, format it there, and THEN plug it back into my PS5 (into a specific USB on the back of my console since it didn't like the other USBs, despite those USBs working well for charging my controller and updating my controller and doing other things) for the PS5 to work well with my external hard drive. THEN that's when I started redownloading some of the digital PS4 games I own (I own some VR stuff that doesn't have physical copies). Finally, I also have the Playstation 5 version of NBA 2K 21 that I got for $10. That game did NOT want to fully install and gave me an install error that I couldn't get out of. To fix this (and apparently this is a glitch that happens with a FEW PS5 games and this is the fix) I had to take out the disc, erase the half baked install, SHUT OFF the internet on my PS5, then turn off the system, turn back on the system, and with the internet OFF, put the disc back in and let it install off the disc. THEN, take out the disc, turn the internet back on, and download the unnecessarily HUGE update (damn thing is over 100 GB). After it was done, I put the game back in and no problems. HOWEVER, I rather play NBA Jam on my Jaguar using my Jaguar Gamedrive. NBA 2K21 isn't a very fun game (I'm okay with offense, but the defense feels weird for me). MAYBE I'll give it a chance in a week again and try to get use to it, but right now I don't like it. I also don't like the gambling aspect of it. At least it was only $10.
I haven't watched the whole thing yet, and I don't know if anyone has clarified this yet, but the PS5 controller does actually work on the PS3. Not PS4, but it works on the PS3 the same way the PS4 controller does (not being able to use the PS Button)
the newer version of the ps5 runs warmer. Probably would be a good idea to add good heat sinks. It's only about 5 to 7 degrees warmer but still not good.
I'm sorry about your mother, man. 😔 I was going to make this comment on your unboxing video, but I noticed that at the end of the video when you informed us about what happened to your mom in 2020, I could tell that you were fighting your emotions back. Again, I'm really sorry for your loss. 😔
There's just currently nothing on the ps5 that I want to play. That's the general feeling here in japan. Interest in sony's console is at an all time low and sony seems to be utterly uninterested in selling stuff to us.
I completely agree with the statement that it feels like a prototype. However, there is potential for the future, if they make more good games. For now I'll wait to see what happened. I'm sure your mother is glad, that the gift cards didn't go to waste and are used for something you like.
Great review Adam, as always. It's just annoying that these things are a real pain in the butt to get a hold of. Sadly it's probably only going to get worse.
That thing is insane. This is the perfect time to buy a PS3 and or a 360 and start an ultimate collection. I’m a true 7th gen kid and I miss the days when all of the work was done on the console. When I unboxed the PS4 on launch day and played shadow fall I knew I would never really like the new generation of consoles. There’s never been a better time to invest in the 7th gen. best stories when developers actually cared instead of just pushing out remasters. And let’s not forget you can actually own copies of the content you purchase. Games blu rays. Sure you could own some content with the Xbox one but with one software patch it’s all gone.
I’m sorry for your loss dude. Not to throw it in your face but I nearly lost my mom to a heart attack caused by Pneumonia. It started in December 6 I woke up was about to go back to sleep, when I notice my mom acting weird. I asked her what was wrong, she told I’m cold I’m so cold. Right off the bat I knew call 911 which I did. About 5 to 4 minutes after calling a paramedic showed up an she kept her from passing out now my mom told she died there at the house I’m in. I didn’t remember that all I remember was calling for help for her an them coming. If she did die then I didn’t know or I choose to forget about it. Anyway she got her back they took to the nearest hospital from where I am which is Harris hospital. They transferred her to Orange Regional hospital up in Middletown. After she got there she had a heart attack. An again nearly dead, so they put her on life support an called me an my uncle to come to hospital. We got there an was told we should take her off life support, now mind before I left to go with my uncle Joe I called my uncle Altaïr about what happened. He told a quick story about his friend who was in the same condition as my mom, he told they kept him on life support for a whole week thankfully his friend pulled through an came back. So back to my mom being on life support the on call doctor did her best to get me to say yes to turn off the life support, which I said no no leave it on for a week but she wouldn’t allow it meaning the on call doctor. She said we’ll leave it on till morning. An me and my uncle stayed at the hospital till 6 something she did pull through an her blood pressure raised a little not out of the bad zone but enough to keep her on life support. So we left I took a shower went to sleep woke at 12 something got a phone call from my uncle wife who said an I quote, ( doctor Singh wants to see you an your uncle about your mom.) so we went back up an talk to the head doctor for the place where she was. An he said the best way for her to live through this is to be put on ecmo machine an be transferred to a hospital in NYC which doctor Singh also said was what was best so I signed off on it. They got her stabled to go I said my so long she left I got home an around 10 I think, the hospital in NYC called asking to changed the tubing which I said go ahead. That morning at 3 I think they called my uncle Joe an told she took a turn for the worst again. Said she won’t survived till 12 in the afternoon but she did survived. She was on ecmo for almost a month I think an on Dialysis for a whole month I think. An a feeding tube but after a while they took her off ecmo an dialysis an pretty soon after the feeding tube. She transferred to a nursing home rehab mid February I think an been doing good ever since. Had a few scared of COVID-19 but that it. But again I’m sorry for your loss dude an please forgive me for doing this whole comment about my mom sorry please forgive me and may your mom Rest In Peace.
My ps5 wouldn't even hold a steady wifi connection. Returned the one i had for another that had the exact same issue. I expected way more from sony. Definitely sticking w xbox till the following gen drops. Maybe sony will get it right then.
Adam, here's how I handled the data transfer, I just took the data from my PS4 using a USB stick and put all of it onto the PS5 that way, its how I was able to play and platinum Infamous Second Son, finally. Also, about the populating of older games, that is a complete lie, I have a 2TB external drive that I've got a number of PS4 games on, its how I use PS4 stuff on my PS5, but anyway, I was able to use the games I had loaded up on there, from the get go, I want to play Infamous, Uncharted, The Last of Us, Cod, you name it, I could play it no problem. One thing I know that I'm glad for with this generation of PlayStation is the controller, I have big hands, so the PS3 controller was a okay fit when I was a kid, but the thing is tiny in my hands now, 360 controller is still comfy to hold if a little irritating with the fact you gotta use batteries, but I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, PS4 was fantastic when it first released and still feels good now, Xbox One was okay but felt cheap, haven't held a series X controller yet but I can tell you that the PS5 controller in my opinion anyway, is the best controller ever, it fits my giant hands no problem, its comfy, it does everything a controller should with no bullshit and the list of games to play now is actually growing, Deathloop is out now and I'm pumped to play it, so far I'm happy with my purchase of a PS5 and I hold 0 regrets.
The reason your 8tb drive doesn’t work on the PS5 is because it has a USB hub and it doesn’t see it as connected directly to the console. I had the same issue with a 5tb drive on the PS4. Stupidest limitation I’ve ever seen. If you’re interested in a good 8tb external drive I recommend the WD Black D10 8tb since it’s 7200rpm and has comparable transfer times to external SSDs on the PS5.
I've a question. Do you talk T.V. ? Help us with choosing a TV that's gonna display the new tech. What do you use currently. How can I cut corners and save money. Because some say ray tracing don't really matter. The memory and TV upgrade is annoying its more expensive then the dam console's. Also when will we get a room tour ?
There is no reason to hate one console over the other, if you can, try them both/all, I currently have 9 consoles plugged in my game room (3 from each company) but if I ever had to chose one platform to roll with it would be Microsoft for sure. They treat back wards compatability so much better and game upgrades not only for last gen but for the 2 gens before of xbox hardware. I have yet to get a ps5 so im still on my ps4 pro but I have secured a XSX and it is amazing. I picked one one up early summer 2021 for $620 cause prices/availability aren't going to get any better with the holidays coming up and GTA V has the expanded and enhanced version coming out in November so I had to pull the trigger but until then everything from resident evil HD remaster to COD cold war and RE8 have been amazing and load times are remarkable. Like Adam i have ALOT of games/gaming consoles, accessories, peripherals etc. ($13,000 worth). I have 17TB on my xbox SX with 7TB free. 303 games currently installed on my xbox (all physical) and 5tb on my ps4 pro with 2tb free. Now my TV set up needs to catch back up to console capabilities so bring on black friday
Where I am no one is buying the Series S console and I am pretty sure it’s not because it’s a bit weaker but because it does not support physical media
Had one on pre order last year, got cancelled. I refuse to pay 4 figures on eBay. Can't find in stores. I probably won't get one till next year at this rate. Not missing a ton of exclusives at the moment any way but I do look forward to getting one.
Good review like always! I will say, i like when you tell us your stories and experiences we get to see you tell it, instead of gameplay the whole time. It has more impact that way!
As always awesome video Adam! Hope you do have a great time with the system and make good memories with it especially considering the way you got the system... seriously that story hit me as well in your last video...
I also had a large (5TB) external drive full of PS4 games and I also had to spend HOURS re-certifying my licenses! It took repeated manual fixing for a couple of days to get it straight. I’m a big PlayStation fan but I wouldn’t hesitate to admit that Microsoft’s OS design and overall handling are just better
@@AdamKoralik ah my bad just re-researched it. The difference is that the PS5 can still play physical games after the clock battery dies, but can't play digital, while the PS4 can't play either digital or physical. Hope it gets patched eventually, very bad sign. Near the end of the video- ruclips.net/video/blol8dJo-Rc/видео.html
Hey Adam, you actually can connect the dualsense to the PS3 in the same way you would a Dualshock 4, by holding the share and home button to pair it in the Bluetooth accessories setting on the PS3, though the home button doesn't work and the touch pad does nothing
Dude, CMOS bomb is not an issue on PS5. Just on PS4. Also, you could have talk a bit more about those ps5 games, especially Demons, hope you also pic Rift Apart in the future.
But because of CMOS time bomb issue and because of the DRM nature of 8th and 9th gen consoles; what is the point of buys physical? Just for plastic case and cover sleeve collection?
Spawn Wave channel had a new never connected to PS network. Took battery out or console. Console believed the date was 1946 if I remember correctly. It would play disc based games. Would not play digital download games. So the game you(bought)? Does not work anymore. That is why you buy physical media.
Hey Adam thanks for the great review on the PS5, I enjoy a lot of your recaps of each game console when their life cycle is over. I also just got a PS5 second hand and I’m having so much fun playing the single player exclusives for it and the PS4 I missed out on due to being an Xbox player since the original Xbox which I still am with the series x where I also play on where all my 3rd party and Microsoft games are on similar to you. I’m actually tempted to find an original PS3 to play 1-3 games over HDMI for their exclusives aswell since all those games are no where to found on the PS5 store or are playable by disc. I found out alot of them are locked behind a premium ps plus membership which disappoints me since I like to collect physical aswell. My deepest condolences about your mother, I actually almost lost my mother due to a brain aneurysm last year but fortunately she survived. My mom bought my first console ever which got me started into gaming, it was the N64. I look forward to seeing more of your content in the future 👍🏻
Not going to lie Adam I enjoy seeing you better than gameplay.

Mom in for one last win! RIP Mom’s who bought us consoles when Dad never would.
@@HKT-4300 If what you say is true and I can't use motion controller when playing a PS3 game with the Dualshock 4 then the one game that comes to mind is Killzone 2 which does require you to utilize the motion controls at certain points to turn pipes.
what? dualsense works on ps3 but not on the ps4pro? now thats funny.
GT is the shit 💯
I have had it since launch. Mainly use it as a PS4 pro pro. Kind of bugged that VRR and Dolby Vision aren't features yet. But I still enjoy it a lot. The controller is really premium feeling
So is Dolby vision really Coming to PS5 after xbox deal is up?
@@mtdubdachamp6917 those are the rumors. A lot of people who have been following it seem to suggest that Xbox just shelled out for the license first and it's only a matter of time before Sony pays for it too.
Your ending bit really got me. Having to go through something similar with my mother and father, I completely understand where your coming from. It may not make sense to those who still have their parents in their lives, but it’s a big deal, logical or not.

You're not alone friend
Glad you mentioned the Cmos battery debacle. People really do seem to have forgotten about it already.
I currently have no plans of buying a PS5 for that reason alone. I really hope it gets fixed, but unfortunately it seems Sony's decision to just ignore the problem is working out for them.
This can be fixed with a firmware update on the ps5 but not the series x
Mainly due to xbox not having the issue with a cmos battery.
@@BAM5636 yes it does???
@@mister-pinkman Never seen or heard of it on an Xbox Series X.
Wow. That last story totally smacked me in the feels. My dad passed away a couple of months ago and I’m extremely understanding of that “this was one last (insert special thing here) that they could buy for me”.
I'm really sorry to hear that.
@@AdamKoralik thank you.
Stay strong man.
Newer game systems are starting to take more work to set up than it does for me to do a complete capacitor change on a Turbo Duo.
And Returnal??
@@mister-pinkman returnal is a showcase from a loading standpoint simply cuz that bitch never loads lol. And a balanced framerate.
@@mister-pinkman no I'm saying returnal shows how fast the PS5 loads which is basically never. Returnal is the perfect example. GOTY imo.
@@mtdubdachamp6917 ok gotcha I misunderstood
No need to pay double for the plates buy them off AliExpress for half the cost. I paid $30 CAD including shipping and they are perfectly usable.
Fact 🎯
The review all your fans have been waiting for!
Came here to say the same. This may be an unusually late PS5 review, but it’s the best one I’ve seen by far!
Turns out this was because my particular PS3 was just being difficult. I tried another one and it worked fine.
@@AdamKoralik nice!
And thats why its only $50 and a cross-gen game lol
Thanks for saying "Playable Teaser" I never knew that's what PT stood for and never cared enough to look into it
Just FYI the PS5 controller does work on the PS3- it has to be connected with the usb cable, and the rumble and menu buttons don’t work but you can use it to play games.
(Demon Souls or Miles Morales for example)
Im not asking because of the fan, that is mostly silent, but its about an issue called "coil whine".
Sorry dude. I lost my momma on Feb 3rd 2012 and just lost my dad on August 31st 2021. It's absolutely rough
I got my PS5 back in April, and my game transfers from PS4 to PS5 took around 25 minutes. It weird how these new consoles have such a varying degree of consistency. I knew someone that had problems with Miles Morales and Ratchet and Clank (constant crashes), and I never had a single issue.
I've never had one problem with mine. I play PS5 games mostly. I also kept my Ps4 with my 6TB drive to play my ps4 games.
There's only like 3 PS5 exclusives and all 3 can be beat within 25 hours 🤣
Personally, I'm gonna wait for more games to come out that'll make me go "wow, I need a PS5 for that". Great vid btw.
yeah, only game I want for PS5 not available elsewhere is the remastered Demon's Souls, remake of a PS3 game! Nothing else there I need right now, maybe I will get a PS5 slim a couple of years in the future.
If I had to choose a console instead of going straight to PC, I would definitely choose the Xbox Series X because the CMOS battery makes me less motivated to own a PS5.
Physical discs can still be played on PS5 even without the battery. Everything on XBOX requires a first-time connection
I skipped ps3 generation and ps4 so a ps5 was a must buy for me as I am enjoying ps4 games right now and some ps5
I think I'm going vintage only. To many times I've been disappointed.

How is your PS5 experience now? Any smoother? I haven’t really had any problems with my console.
It's been patched a few times, please check my one year anniversary video for some updates.
every generation the jump or difference is smaller.
Thankfully all the save transferring issues etc are being resolved with the next firmware release that’s currently in beta.
Naw I'll still take the ease of using a console I've PC gaming.
Transferring saves is very easy you just connect your ps4 via LAN cable to your ps5 and click transfer saves in settings boom done.

I’ve come close to getting one myself but alas my clicking skills arnt fast enough 😂
I will never pay one cent above normal retail price even if it means never getting a ps5
Finally,
I also have the Playstation 5 version of NBA 2K 21 that I got for $10.
Yes, believe me, a lot of people have jumped on that. I never got it to work, hell if I know why.
@@AdamKoralik Ah alright gotchu. That's strange though, it should work right when it's plugged in. No idea what's up with that
the newer version of the ps5 runs warmer. Probably would be a good idea to add good heat sinks. It's only about 5 to 7 degrees warmer but still not good.
There's more heat coming out. I haven't seen tests related to chip warmth...
I'm sorry about your mother, man. 😔
I was going to make this comment on your unboxing video, but I noticed that at the end of the video when you informed us about what happened to your mom in 2020, I could tell that you were fighting your emotions back.
Again, I'm really sorry for your loss. 😔
That part hit me emotionally
There's just currently nothing on the ps5 that I want to play. That's the general feeling here in japan. Interest in sony's console is at an all time low and sony seems to be utterly uninterested in selling stuff to us.
Damn that’s quick. I expected at least another week.
Same ahaha
Thank you for recognizing that not everyone is upgrading from a pro. The jump from my slim to the PS5 is awesome!
I love this guys content, his videos are chill very informative and they feel friendly in a way.
27:55 crazy how accurate that ended up being
I completely agree with the statement that it feels like a prototype. However, there is potential for the future, if they make more good games. For now I'll wait to see what happened. I'm sure your mother is glad, that the gift cards didn't go to waste and are used for something you like.
What annoyed me about the PS5 upgrade for no mans sky was the removal of PSVR support. PSVR games are supported by the PS5 only in PS4 mode.
I'm sorry to hear you went through all that. :/
Thank you and I’m sorry you had to lose your mom
Here in México you can get PS5's almost anywhere, on the other hand the Xbox Series X...
That's.... special.
The inability to play Audio CD's is stupid
My Aunt and Uncle have a Sony 4K Blu Ray Player and it can play audio cds. Maybe they want to use Spotify
Had one on pre order last year, got cancelled. I refuse to pay 4 figures on eBay. Can't find in stores. I probably won't get one till next year at this rate. Not missing a ton of exclusives at the moment any way but I do look forward to getting one.
I have owned my PS5 4 months and not had any games uninstall on their own. I am using an external Samsung T5 for PS4 games.
Did you not play Astro's Playroom? It comes included with the console and is great. Returnal and Ratchet are also amazing.
Honestly forgot all about it.
@@AdamKoralik Give ASTRO a try, it's a great game, especially for being free. And it really takes advantage of the new controller features.
Glad to know I'm not alone. Sorry that happened though.
I'm pretty sure the CMOS issue is absent on the PS5, Spawnwave did a video on it. Still think it sucks that they haven't patched it out of the PS4.
It's famously not absent, it's very much a thing. It's just not as destructive.
@@AdamKoralik ah my bad just re-researched it. The difference is that the PS5 can still play physical games after the clock battery dies, but can't play digital, while the PS4 can't play either digital or physical. Hope it gets patched eventually, very bad sign.
Near the end of the video-

Hey Adam, you actually can connect the dualsense to the PS3 in the same way you would a Dualshock 4, by holding the share and home button to pair it in the Bluetooth accessories setting on the PS3, though the home button doesn't work and the touch pad does nothing
Dude, CMOS bomb is not an issue on PS5. Just on PS4. Also, you could have talk a bit more about those ps5 games, especially Demons, hope you also pic Rift Apart in the future.
Yes, it is an issue on PS5, it's just not as extreme.
But because of CMOS time bomb issue and because of the DRM nature of 8th and 9th gen consoles; what is the point of buys physical? Just for plastic case and cover sleeve collection?
Partially, but the CMOS bomb is less damaging to physical editions, particularly on the PS5.
@@AdamKoralik maybe you could make a video about that 😁
@@TripperLIVE I think I did.
Spawn Wave channel had a new never connected to PS network. Took battery out or console. Console believed the date was 1946 if I remember correctly. It would play disc based games. Would not play digital download games. So the game you(bought)? Does not work anymore. That is why you buy physical media.
@Adam Koralik the dualsense does work on ps3 just no rumble, speaker, and the ps button won’t work
This is probably a dumb question but are you gonna do birthday videos on the new consoles now that you have them?
That's my plan.
@@AdamKoralik cant wait for those. I look forward to those every year.
my mom bought me a 360 in 2009. it doesnt work but i hang on to it cause it means alot to me.
Exactly.
So is the xbox your console of choice this generation? Im kind of relieved the xbox isnt at a disadvantage this time round
Honestly, yes, primarily because of storage.
These consoles are the end of the road for me, not getting either because of DRM but I'm glad y'all enjoy it!
God, that's terrible. Looks like I'll just get a PS4 and be done
I use the USB-C Port in the front with my 1TB WD External SSD and it works great to store and play all my PS4 games from it!
