    Thank you so much for this video. My Norcold 811 went out and my TT is a 2017 model bought new in 2018. I didn't have a lot of complaints about the old one until it leaked ammonia.The Texas heat killed it I am pretty sure. The cooling unit, refurbed, is $800, new about $1100 and a new Norcold without doors- $1900. The labor to put in a new residential would be quicker and easier than replacing the cooling unit. Nope. This is a no brainer. I will deal with the power outages from travel or a hurricane or a freeze when it happens. Thanks again.

    We just replaced our 8 cubic foot dometic in our 30 ft freedom Express travel trailer with a residential 10 cubic foot magic chef. We did have to do some very minor adjustment for a little more room at the top however other than that it fit perfectly. So much more room!!! Very easy to install. Though, the one thing that I see people do on their gas line when they close it off, they put tape or some kind of junk around the threads to seal it, this is not necessary because a brass plug will seal itself. I should have done this a long time ago!

    Great video. We have also a Norcold 8cf refrigerator on our new 2022 Entegra Vision and it does not cool. We took the motorhome back to the selling dealer in Las Vegas from our home in Northern CA, (big expense in gasoline). They did a diagnostic and determined that it needed to be replaced, and now we wait maybe 2 to 3 months for the replacement to come, and then back to Las Vegas to have it replaced. I hope the new one does not crap our like the new one that came with the motorhome. I see in our future changing it to something like you just installed. Thank you for the video.

    Nice video. I have the same RV as you and am in the process of replacing the original Dometic with a residential frog. I got mine ar Home Depot too, not the same brand but the same 10.1 cubic feet. The one thing I just finished up doing is rebuilding the floor the frig sits on. Mine wasn't that solid so I pulled the plywood out and installed legs at the corners and sides along with a 4x4 center support. It is solid now. How did you wire your 110 line to the inverter? Did you disconnect the original wire at the fuse panel and wire it to the inverter or did you run an all new line from the inverter to the plug behind the rig? Also what size inverter did you use? I'm looking at a pure sine wave 2000 watts. I have two lead acid batteries. We very seldom boondock so I think it will work for now. Time will tell.

    Great job, thanks for sharing! We're about to replace our Propane fridge with a residential one that, like yours, doesn't have the condenser coils on the back, which means they are embedded at the sides. The manual says we'd need 4 inches free space at both sides and back and top for proper ventilation. We don't have that, and from your video we don't think you had it either... So how did you go about ventilating yours? Thanks in advance for your tips.

    My nevercold quit after 2 years. Im looking at replacing it with the same refrigerator as you did. I have a couple of questions. How much heat does the magic chef put out? Also during the winter months does the cold air coming through your outside vents affect your compressor? I wud move the gas line out of compartment just incase- there are any sparks each time fridge goes into cooling mode... Just an on off chance. Yes I watched you sealed line well... But on the off chanc there's an imperfection in future, & gas builds up in that small area between fridge & outside door. how to move it without breaking it? Attach another hose that can be routed down &/or out that can be unattached later if someone wants a 2 - 3way rv fridge(idOnO Y thA wud bt).. anyway, I don't know squat.. here's my question, have you researched how much space is needed for ventilation/cooling on back & or top of a standard home depot or watever, compression watchamacallit fridge? You may have to remove back several " of that top ins., &/or install another vent- on outside wall👋

    • @RVLivingYet
      @RVLivingYet  3 года назад +1

      There is a vent on the top and bottom of the back wall to the exterior so there should be plenty of ventilation for the heat and gas should there be an issue but its more safe now that its capped than before when there was a gas valve back there that could fail with a pilot light.
