In this flight this glass cockpit rookie takes a look at the brand new FSReborn FSR500 single engine turboprop. We take a look around the aircraft and then take a flight to Las Vegas using Pilot2ATC and also make use of the Navigraph integration.
The FSR500 is available through Marketplace

On further study of the manual there is some great advice in setting up rudder controls to give a more realistic, on ‘twitchy’ feel.
Where IS the manual? I can't find the documentation
NM :) FSR too clever for me: QR Code in the EFB under FAQ :D
@@thesledge3481there is a link to it in the onboarding process when you load up for the first time or head over To their Discord where they have a documentation channel
It's just got to be the coolest panel ever designed
Meridian over/pilot for over 10 years. A few points. Use 3-degrees of right rudder trim on take off. (Center at 0 on landing) Take off power is always at least 1250-lbs. Climb to altitude is IAS 125.-kts. ......... "500 pounds max torque" at least one minute before entering the approach/localizer or RNAV Waypoints. As "soon" as you start down 3-degree glide-slope, GEAR DOWN, FIRST NOTCH OF FLAPS, POWER BACK TO ""300 pounds"" Leave the power set..don't mess with it unless you are dealing with a head wind that pushes you below 100 knots down the glide-slope. Ideally you'll be between 100 and 120-knots on your descent. Second notch of flaps when you're ready for slower (and only if you see the runway.....obviously you will not ever drop the 3rd notch unless you see the runway and not in a heavy crosswind , and don't touch the power until you're sure you could make the runway with NO POWER. Again..stay on the GS and don't touch the power. Don't cross control down the glide-slope to hold the runway centered. Just use rudder to crab...no ailerons. Only use ailerons/cross control over the runway...stay crabbed all the way down until the last few moments before touchdown. So...500-lbs before intercepting the localizer, when the GS captures....GEAR -- FLAPS 1 - Power down to 300. Just leave it. FLAPS 2 to slow down when you can see the the RNWY, FLAPS 3 if you want...squeeze power off when you can make the field. EASY !! Too much messing with power will cause a crummy approach. And finally, the VENT FAN does not work when the ECS is on. It's for ground only when bleed air and ECS are off. The second you turn on ECS, the VENT FAN will turn off. I wonder if the AMP meter will show any difference when you turn the VENT FAN on/off when the ECS os ON. That would be incorrect programming.
Many thanks for that information. Very useful indeed!
The is an easy way to put the heading bug to point into A/C direction. Just right click on the knob and it jumps to the top. Ideal once lined up on the runway.
But that’s cheating isn’t it 😉
@@Dreamsofwings For me it's just proper use of the sim
@@Dreamsofwings not at all as I’m the real plane pushing the same button for over a second has the same effect.
@@leverpaul ah interesting, so in the real thing it automatically aligns direction indicator to compass?
@@Dreamsofwings yep
hello! great video and commentary. i was paying particularly close attention to the speed at which you were moving relative to the ground. whenever i play flight sim, i notice that the ground moves very fast and unrealistically relative to my plane, even at 200kts ground speed it looks much faster than the plane in your video when looking outside. essentially, it seems like your perceived speed is a lot lower (and more realistic). do you have any mods active that affect the visuals of the game?
cheers
Many thanks! I haven’t got any mods that would change something like that. The only thing you could try is change your camera zoom level and see if that changes it. I’m not sure what else would be causing that apart from maybe a different zoom level gives a different rendition of ground movement perhaps.
I need a real lotto win for a new PC, all the planes now and the new MSFS 24 to come.
Or a sugar mummy? :)
One can dream right? 🤣👍🏻
Jeez, guy, your game is a slide show.
Lol thanks. They have actually found there is a memory leak in this first release version and are issuing a patch to take care of it. That’s why frames were slower than usual.
01:59 From the manual "We recommend that rudder pedals be set to have a REACTIVITY of 50% and with -30 curves"
A faster way to turn the heading and other dials is to use the Lock interaction mode instead of Legacy. Change in settings>accessibility. Then you can drag the dial for a faster spin. The click spot is also larger in this mode.
Vote to permanently rename “checklist” to “chestlist” 😂
🤣🤣🤣
Destination elevation is set automatically by the Garmin based on the flight plan. You can verify in the Cabin Press section on the MFD
What are your PC specifications? Would you kindly start including them in the description. I'm sure a lot of people are curious. Also what peripherals you're using.
Thanks - tbmdd
My PC is quite old really. I7 8700k 32gb RAM 3800ti - Fulcrum Yoke - Honeycomb Bravo Quadrant - TPR pedals - Grass Monkey King Puck Head Tracking
@@Dreamsofwings Nice! We'll it's the quality of the content that counts and from you it's top notch! I've got an odd rig, Core i9-10900KF, RTX 4090 FE, 64GB 3800MHz DDR4 RAM, Strix Z-590E MOBO!
@tbmdd many thanks!
Best tip for slow fps I found was to delete cache files in your nvidia folder. So effective I have a shortcut to it on my desktop. Slow fps, delete dxcache files, fixes it always.
Yes did that yesterday but can’t say it has made much difference in my sim. I think I’ve probably changed a setting somewhere without realising the impact. Time to do one of those settings optimisation runs lol
@@Dreamsofwings So, are you and your passenger going steady now? Seemed like you really hit it off. Wedding bells I'll wager.
@@calumlittle9828 🤣 conversation was lacking I am afraid.
My man needs to learn how to use the direct button.
Care to expand on that? Been a while since I made this and not sure what has promoted you to feel the need to leave this comment
Great video, good explanations on the procedures. I did have issues with the aircraft that I didn't have with any of the other GA aircraft I have purchased. I ended up having to re-install and that fixed the initial issue. However, I am having lots of issues with poor frame rate on this aircraft only. What I discovered is that the frame rate issue shows up when I am recording a video using OSB. Again, I don't have those issues with any other aircraft, i.e., TBM 850. They perform fantastic on the fps (60 or above, vs 15 on this aircraft). Have you come across anything like this when recording?
Many thanks! Yes they found a memory leak that had an impact and worsened the longer the flight. Also if using external views. It has been corrected on the recent update but I’ve not tested in yet.
@@Dreamsofwings Thanks mate. This was driving me crazy. I love the airplane and all the immersion features but wasn't happy with the performance. I have to test it out. Thanks,
Well, everything was tik-a-tee-boo, wasn't it? ;-)
I love when they have a gpu for the small planes like the 172.
My impression was that, after you had set 5,000 feet as your destination altitude, it was your co-pilot that informed ATC of the change, not the other way around. So, I don't believe you were following ATC instructions. Just an observation, NOT a criticism. I thoroughly agree with your assessment of the value of videos as education, mistakes included. I learned from this video as well, which made me subscribe. Keep up the great work, I'm a fan! Regards, Bill
Many thanks!, yes having been given the approach clearance, which included the instruction to cross that point at or above 5000ft, the copilot informed the next frequency change controller that we were descending to 5000ft but realistically I should have shallowed the descent.
To change the altitude quickly use the Alt knob bottom left of the lefthand PFD. The inner and outer parts change the altitude by thousands and by hundreds of feet.
Great video, very clear and precise...in fact one of the best, if not the best, explanation of the FSR500 features. Great job.
Many thanks! 🍻
Why's it called FSR500? They named it after themselves. Isn't it a Piper M500?
I suspect because they do not have an agreement in place with Piper to use their brand and name.
hello were the tablette
What you set is the baro minimum which is different from dest elevation
Ah thanks, I’ll have to have another look at that.
I have a nice logitech mouse with a metal wheel you can lock and unlock so it spins freely and scrolls really fast, it's really nice for quickly rotating dials. It's a bit expensive but really worth it for gaming in general.
Sounds like a great idea! I think I can do that with mine. I will have to give it a try 🤦🏻♂️
Model name?
Hello Dreamsofwings. Excellent Video. It's always a good moment when i see your flights :) . What kind of ATC are you using in the video?
Ah thank you so much! Using Pilot2ATC for the video
@@Dreamsofwings Thank you sir. Can't wait for the next video 😀
What ATC do you use? Thanks.
I am using a beta Pilot2ATC
How do you feather the prop?
Put the condition lever to the cut off position.
You didn't have an existing leg to CCHUM so you have to use direct to
To add to this; direct to is the soft key with D and an arrow, to the left of menu.
@@TuffGnarl does this wipe the flight plan or once you get to CCHUM having set it as ‘direct to’ would the next flight plan leg automatically kick in?
MANSEQ (manual sequence) is a placeholder for a heading usually on a departure. So there is no "leg" to activate. The direct button is used to activate the rest of the flight plan. Usually on a departure that includes a heading, it will say something along the lines of fly assigned heading as assigned by ATC or to a certain altitude. Afterwards you can assume you'll be given a heading "direct" to your next waypoint. In this situation, the G1000 worked fine. Direct will not erase the legs after the waypoint you are direct to. It will only delete everything before that.@@Dreamsofwings
@@DannyC3017 wonderful! Thanks so much for the explanation. I’ve done quite a few of these Simbrief generated IFR routes this year and not come across this situation before so great to learn something new! I’ll go back to Hollywood Burbank and practise this scenario!
I just realised somebody already responded, oops!
Well, nevermind! I enjoyed the video by the way. The 500 is already a certain purchase for me (although I need to wait, XBOX) but I wanted to watch a full flight so this was right up my street. Keep up the good work!
Great video thanks! What’s your take on this versus the TBM850?
Many thanks! They are both different animals really. The FSR500 has more depth/immersion to it but if you fancy a steam gauge turboprop then the TBM is great.
@@Dreamsofwings thank you - and makes the choice tougher!! Might have to get both 😂
I find the TBM superior on flight dynamics. I have never had any issues with it.
@@ZiggyAir thank you. I’ve got the TBM 850 and love it (although find RNAV approaches impossible when using both the GTN 750 and 530 stock combination). Thinking of also purchasing the 500
Do you also have RNAV issues?
