    AC’s first India service was back in the late 80s using an L1011 flying YYZ-LHR-BOM and onward to SIN. Ultimately BOM-SIN was ended and varying on and off service since has been to DEL via LHR on 747s and in this century on 777s and 787s.

    This only makes sense because the Russian airspace is closed for Western airlines. The direct YYC-DEL is 460 nautical miles shorter, but it crosses Russia. Non-stop flights into North America by Indian or Chinese airlines should be banned: they're allowed to fly over Russia, saving thousands of dollars.

    • @JayJayAviation
      @JayJayAviation День назад +2

      This is less to do with Russian airspace and more to do with the runway length and altitude in Calgary. The 787 can’t fly all the way with the weight restriction imposed these factors.

    • @kiraasuka9943
      @kiraasuka9943 День назад

      Canada chooses to sanction Russia. Why ban Indian and Chinese airliners because of YOUR choice? Choice has consequence. Or you call this unfair play because Canada is more DemOCraTic 😅 than India and China.
      Go woke go broke dude

    • @wickedpawn5437
      @wickedpawn5437 День назад +1

      @@JayJayAviation That's not correct: Even if YYC were at zero altitude, a direct great-circle flight to DEL is impossible. You have to re-route through Northern Europe (LHR) or Eastern Asia (HND or ICN) to avoid Russian airspace. LHR seems to be the right choice.

    • @JayJayAviation
      @JayJayAviation День назад

      @@wickedpawn5437 while it’s true that a direct flight can’t be done due to Russian airspace restrictions, it’s not the primary reason for the stop in LHR. The stop in LHR would have to happen whether or not Russian airspace was available. The 787 still wouldn’t be able to reach DEL direct due to YYC’s altitude.
