Thank you! What memories this brings from when I was a grade school kid at Pleasant Hills Middle School & shopping here for my school clothes. Then 20 years later, taking my kids there for school shopping. I now live in New Castle area, ours closed a year or so ago, one of the last to close. Still empty.
WOW! It's funny they hardly taken anything down. usually when a Kmart is closing down the Kmart itself is bare thanks for another great video Wallie. ☮
This is great you were able to see through the windows. The floor even shines as I noticed, when our Big Kmart closed in Dec 2016 all the windows were boarded up & when the sign on pole for street view was painted so far been holding up. Very good video.
Thank you! Yeah this store was kept up very well and was pretty clean. Keep in mind this was a newer store as it had been rebuilt in 1999 due to a fire that destroyed the building. So even though the store was here for a while, it was rebuilt and all new in 99!
They just installed brand new led lights in the building in September/ October they tried to get a company to pull them out before they shut down no company would come because they were afraid they wouldn't get paid. Big money invested in a closed building. I put the graphics on the doors a couple of years ago.
That's a shame. I dont blame them. Eddie is a really crooked person and was stealing from Sears Holdings.... his own company. I can understand why no one would remove them. Look what Eddie has done to employees. Benefits and pension problems and retirement funds... we could go on and on. That's cool that you were the one to put the graphics up. I like that they're still up for people to see despite the store being closed.
I was in Glen Burnie earlier today and drove by the back of Glen Burnie Mall. It's gone. Just a wall connecting Ollie's and the stores on the other side. I'm glad there's footage of the mall before it was destroyed.
Great video, and made at Fast Eddie for letting it close. It is sad that this and so many KMarts are going away. Interesting the store kept some of the fixtures and signage Hope someone who truly loved the store got the mementos to keep and appreciate. It's getting ridiculous with the rain but thank you for taking time to do these videos. Is it late spring or early winter??? You and Kayla had one awesome, musical and terrific filming trip. minus the yucky weather.
I remember being in this Kmart a few days before it closed and I really wanted to be there on the last day of closed but unfortunately that wasn’t possible I’m partially crying because I miss Kmart so much curse you Walmart and target you took away the best retail store 😭
One of the latest designs Kmart used until 2001 right after the half circle facade they had in the 1990s. Right after the Big Kmart concept was done, newer stores opened with just the Kmart branding and newer stores had high ceilings like Walmart.
The liquidator would not let us take any of the signage. It never had TYFSAK above the garden shop exit but there is one still above the doors at the front entrance. I did keep one piece of history somehow the blue light ended up in my man cave. That's the least I should have received for 39 years of service!!!
I used to live up the road from this store. You wouldn’t believe the size of the fire and how many fire companies responded. They said it was one of the hottest fires they ever faced due to the size and the contents Are the other businesses in the plaza still there today? A lot of times, the contents of a closing store are sold to other businesses that need lights, checkout computers, card readers, furniture, etc. A lot of restaurants take the used but still in good quality refrigerators, ovens, and other related products
I cant even imagine. I saw a few photos. It looked really awful. As for the other businesses, while it's been a month or so since I driven past this, there were a few other places still operating at the shopping plaza. Anyway, hope you enjoyed the video. Thanks for the info!
I wonder why they won't sell anything with the Kmart logo on it. I unsuccessfully tried to buy a Kmart hand basket from the North Versailles Kmart. What will Kmart do with all of the handbaskets, shopping carts and Kmart signage?
It's weird that they do that. I get that it's for security most likely but it's such a waste of electricity to have all the lights on. Go to at least 50% or better yet, 25% power which would still keep the building lit enough to keep it secure.
There's a Big Kmart down the street from me that closed in November of 2017. Heard it's being turned into affordable housing. Used to be able to get some pretty nice pictures inside but they shut off the lights. Some other stores in the shopping center having that same situation. Sucks that all the Kmarts are closing/have closed
Uhaul is probably in the process of purchasing it. They have purchased 13 so far for $60 Million. Sears new Transformco LLC announced 505 closed locations for sale to restore/rescue (Line Eddies Pockets) the company.
They used those Doors by the garden center. They just closed them a little earlier then the main doors. Rite aid down the road just got gutted out. Big dumpster outside . Steak n shake empty mall empty toys r us empty. They are turning hhgregg into something now. Just a road of empty buildings.
@@WallieB26 Not sure if you know of that little haunted house up the street from the rite aid. It looks like hell. But out of the blue. They boarded up broken top windows. That would make one hell of a video if you got inside that. God only knows what's inside 😈🤡👹💀👻🦇. Jk. I wouldn't go in there if sm1 paid me
Possibly. However, I've noticed a few have been like this. The Shaler one in particular which I go by almost on a daily basis but there is no activity of any kind in the store.
@@WallieB26 or the owners doing it to keep the alarm on to keep people from breaking in and vandalizing the place possibly or keeping copper theifs out
Thanks for the upload Wallie ...Why are all the lights on and who is paying the electric bill? just seems a waste ...in the video it shows they was saving money on the doors now they are wasting money lol
Yeah! For now anyway. Eddie is still basically in charge of the whole company so who knows how it will work out. He is so crooked, I wouldnt trust him in my own home to steal something for money. I hope things will turn around but who knows. Time will tell!

I agree! Its many thanks to Richard Wolf who really proved it well!
This really gave nostalgia feelings because I used to drive past it all the time and my grandpa used to work there
really sad to see kmarts gone from the area...I really liked that store , especially the garden center
That building was nice as hell man... One of the nicest K Marts I have seen.....
It sure was. I miss this particular store! It was unique!
It would have to be one of the newer Kmarts in existence
This is the nicest Kmart I've seen

I had kmart close near me that was an older store that was renovated in the 90s. That kmart keeps having deals fall through to fill the building.
That's ashame that it just sits there going to waste when good use of it could be made. Especially a newer building.

They did use the garden center doors i remember 2 years ago gardening and seasonal goods.
That's good. I hate that a lot of other stores quit using them. Always came off as a sign of the store/company dying.

They put extra shopping carts in those
I was involved in the store closing cleanup. It's a huge and nice building. Great video.

Good job 👍

Weird Hello! turns out to be Lello! With part of the H missing
Yeah lol
Another awesome video cool deal bro
Great job wallieB26 on your video of Big K
Sad nice building someone moving in
At 7:46 in the video at the garden shop doors the blue stripe is from the early 2000s
This might be the nicest Kmart I've ever seen
I pass this building every day. Its a shame this building still has not seen use. Its still very nice and modern.
Same when I go on vacation to wildwood New Jersey
Revisited in 2022. The exterior entrances are completely torn up and the interior is gutted. I think they are reusing this space finally

Looks like my Kmart back home that closed

It doesn’t look like they covered it up it looks like some black mold or something got to it

Wait this kmart was on fire in 1999 you said Wallie?
Yes, it was. It was pretty severe too. Had to be rebuilt. My last video from here, I had photos at the end of it showing the fire.

It's sad just how dead this one road became in the last year and more specifically, the last few months other than the mall anyway.
Oh yeah and you probably know they demolished the old movie theater.
