I moved to Louisiana from PA and I had trouble wth the firmer fairways, flatter courses and wind. I put a 1/2 iron utility in my bag full time and have no regretted it. Its a great club for tight holes and firm fairways to keep it in play and set myself up for the next shot. I also always had trouble hitting fairway woods so clubs like this have been a great addition to the bag.
I have the SIM UDI 3 iron 20*. Definitely my most consistent club off the tee when I need to hit a target. Just ordered the 4 iron Stealth UDI to bridge the gap and give me more confidence off the deck. Stoked they brought these back.
When we going to see a comp between driving/utility irons? Srixon ZX TM UDI Wilson Cobra King Titleiest U505 Etc... Would LOVE to see pros and cons between them
I play a 6 iron set with a SIM DHY 4 that I picked up brand new for 80 bucks on clearance lol. It's awesome to have instead of a 5 iron before I go up to Heavenwood, 4W, Driver. It's the ultimate punch-out club.
I have one and absolutely love it, just make sure if you are a high ball hitter to really get a low launch shaft. I thought a 2 iron would immediately be low trajectory but it does need extra help to keep it at a nice apex.
I've been playing this wonderful game for 31 years and the lowest handicap is 2. It's utterly amazing how far we have come with not only club technology but, recording of a golf shot. We've gone from stock clubs off the rack, countless hitting of practice balls with the only way to learn what works was purely on what round about information you see and feel. Now we can hit less in practice but obtain accurate data to learn from then match equipment accordingly.. Really enjoy this channel lads and thanks for your time to break down equipment to the swing or situation 👍✅ Jade Tasmania Australia 🇦🇺🦘🇦🇺🦘
I have the DHY 4-5 from last year… good feeling , but very high ball flight… instead of selling them, I bought new used shaft (T’enseigna white 2022, S, 85 gr)… new clubs! More penetrating ball, better (lower ball flight) trajectory…. Like it more enough to keep them! I still think that, in many situations, the shaft is more significant than the heads !
I play the UDI because I tend to stab at woods, and hitting a hybrid for me I tend to hit a high hook which is the miss I don’t like to see. The UDI allows me to hit down just like an iron and play my standard fade
Would love to see a comparison between the UDI and the Mizuno Fli Hi driving irons. The Fli His have been the most impressive driving irons this year, used by the likes of Cam Smith at the Open.
I currently game the Gapr Low, 2 iron lofted down all the way.. I am curious why they went away from adjustable hosel.. it so nice to be able to loft them down on a windy day on a links style course.
I’ve been using the ZX utility now for about a year and the spot it holds in the bag is being able to feel like I can put a wood swing on it off the tee to get a low spin runner but with a short enough shaft that I can get steeper off the fairway if I’m going for a par 5 green. I have a 3 iron zx so it fits between my 4 iron from set and my 3 wood that I have lofted up to be a 4 wood Excited to try the Taylormade UDI
I have same club make up and U85 driving iron. Such a great club and it doesn’t go left when I’m looking to flight ball down, cannot say same for the various hybrids I’ve tried. I did change out the stock Recoil shaft for the Ventus HB 9X and weakened loft 1.5* to 21.5. Fantastic club and it gaps perfectly with my Miura’s w/24* 4i.
Another GREAT video guys. I Always view these driving irons more of a 4 iron replacement. Love my 3w, love my 17* hybrid and love my chunky 4 iron but that's the one that can go.
I’ve had mizuno Mp20 Sel for years and love them but I actually went for the dhy. Didn’t like it at first but now it’s a Swiss Army knife. Can’t see taking it out of the bag anytime soon. Great in any condition, tee, rough, fairway and occasionally green side. Low Traj. High cut love it
One other thing I noticed is that the Stealth UDI and DHY can only be bent 2 degrees up or down on Taylormade’s custom page. Is this because they’re likely cast and not forged? The P790 UDI can be bent up to 4 degrees upright or flat. As someone who fears a hook, I would like the forgiveness of the Stealth but need it 3-4 degrees flat.
I have been playing a TaylorMade UDI since 2018. I carry it around 220-230 and it is my fairway finder. I have problems hitting fairway woods, so this works great for me off the tee and fairway.
Struggled with my 3 wood last year. Ordered a PXG 0311XP 3 iron to replace it. I swing it faster, less spin, more control and carry it almost as far. 240 carry at 108 SS. Just ordered a titleist 1 iron U505 to get a bit more yardage.
I was just about to comment that you all should do a driving iron roundup video. Maybe comparing what clubs are good for what conditions, who might benefit, etc.
Honestly, I think this would benefit the golfer that has decent strike with irons vs woods, and wants a reliable “off the tee” club, but I agree it is niche in the sense that the golfer has to accept this as part of their course management philosophy.
As always gents, your timing is impeccable! I’ve been looking at putting something like the DHY in the bag, as I’ve lost confidence in my CLK Hybrid (I just see it going left). I thought about the TaylorMade GAPR’s but as tech has got even more advanced in the last 3-4yrs maybe this new Stealth or the Mizuno Pro equivalent would be the right way to go in the 4i variant. Great as always gents 👍
Again being a lefty sucks at times. I think only ping makes 9 woods in left handed and the DHY only comes on 19 and 22 deg° and the UDI only comes in 20 deg° I'm looking for a 180 carry 195 total and my 7 wood is to long and I can't hit any iron past a 6 iron like 165 170 carry. I have been working the 5 iron but it's pretty much a club that go's the same as the 6 and the 4 I can't even hit shouldn't have even bought it. So 22 deg DYH ping g430 9 wood have to work. Any ideas please help me.
I didn't catch which loft option that you hit in the DHY. Was it the 3 or 4? I want to try out the 4 to see if I can replace my 4 iron with it. Thanks.
I live in Phoenix and we have firm fairways and greens and it can get pretty windy. I don't carry long irons (past 5i) but was considering something like the New Level NLU01 as a 4 iron replacement to take advantage of the ball running down the fairways with lower spin. How are the DHY style clubs out of the rough? That's another place my hybrids work that I'd hope a club like the DHY could step in.
Generally curious as why I would buy one of these when the 4 iron in the stealth set is 18.5 degrees and the 5 is 21…seems a bit redundant. What am I missing?
These are more for a person who games players irons who wants to a faster faced long iron. A second reason would be if you tend to see a ballooning ball flight with similar lofted hybrids and woods.
Safe tee shot club for “good” players that need something anti hook. Not really made to be paired with stealth irons…different target market in my opinion
Interesting that you Ian seem not a fan of the driving irons. I would’ve thought this is an ideal club given your swing and how you’ve talked about hybrids in past. I’ve been gaming a Srixon U85 3i for a few years now. I have tried 4-5 different hybrids over the years, could never find one that I could consistently control flight and keep from going left. The U85 I can hit the knockdown, the high soft fade and just rip down middle w/o concern of the big hook. I tried a 20* wood but I’ve never been able to consistently control flight. My home courses in CO and MT are known for afternoon winds, need to keep the flight down off tee w/o going left. I honestly don’t hit too many approaches w/U85 but I was playing yesterday where I did a double cross off tee on a dogleg right, ended up on opposite fairway. Had to hit a high fade over 2 trees and carry creek at front of green 210 out. The smart play was a layup through the trees 100 short of green but I was really solid striking so I pulled the U85 with my buddy laughing. He bought drinks after round when I landed her on green and it rolled to back right fringe. Par’d the hole 😊
@@clubchampionmedia No worries mate. I know you did a witb but other than your Miura irons, I game 501’s, Vokey wedges and TM woods, I don’t recall the exact set makeup. My bad. It just appeared you were less enthused about the utility iron concept in your intro, maybe that was just me or perhaps it was just in relation to Mac doing the testing. Great vids, love the talent, creativity and dialog Mac has brought to the channel. 👍
I've got a speedzone 4 iron I often play off the tee. With 18 degrees of loft I can get it 250-260yds and hit the fairway most times. Great clubs to play when you aren't confident with driver.
Hit the UDI 3i in the bay on the weekend - very good! Great feel, nice flight. I don’t normally get along with long irons, but this was quite easy to hit from the get go. Only had the 75S shaft in it, so ideally I’d have liked the 90 instead. Strangely, didn’t get along so well with the DHY. Might’ve just been the way it looks to my eye, not sure.
He’s been gone since the start of the year because of creative differences. He didn’t like that TXG was being acquired by Club Champion, but being that he didn’t have an ownership stake in TXG (the company) he didn’t have any control to avoid that from happening he felt his best move would be to leave TXG. Check out Matt Blois Golf to catch up with him
I was playing an old Adams DHY 2-iron until last year. Great club, can only imagine the improvement over 9+ years ...
If you're not interested in having the club anymore I am a huge fan of Adam's and I'll gladly buy it :D
@@businessrecreationjack8184 Not ready to part with it just yet. Also, it's a lefty club ...
