Watching all the flowers pop out has been so lovely this year!! We’ve always watched everyone else’s in awe on the drive to our land.. and now we get to see it on our own trees!! 💚
Sometimes gardening can feel like one step forwards, two steps back. Trees will often shed their leaves prematurely when they are under stress. We had a drought last summer and our very mature copper beach shed all of it's leaves to reduce loss of water through the leaves. This year it's fine. Also, plants are more vulnerable to pests when they are under stress due to either too little water, or in the UK it can be too much water. Your almond tree hasn't had chance to grow roots that go deep enough to get enough water its self. As other people have said, keep watering and feeding it and it should be fine next year. Although all gardeners suffer losses, by giving the almond some TLC it should be fine xxxx
We really hope so. Poor little almond! Hopefully on the next tour of Smithsdale Farm in a couple of weeks we won’t be showing you a dead tree!! 🤞🏻Thanks for the constant encouragement ❤️ It’s tricky, this growing your own food malarkey!!
Greetings from the southern United States! I have thoroughly enjoyed watching your various endeavors and projects as you evolve and elevate your property into the vision you have for it! Your ingenuity and strong work ethic have been an inspiration to a great many of people that watch your channel! The old saying about work accomplishments being 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration certainly hold true in your case! Keep striving and fulfilling your dreams! Have a blessed and safe week!
Oh my goodness those bugs! We have only planted a fig tree this spring, like yours this one has been bug free but the last time we went up the tree had almost fallen because of the wind! Several leaves were damaged badly. I hope we managed to prop it up better last time, we'll see this weekend when we go back! I will try the soapy water treatment on an olive tree where I saw some (what I think is) woolly aphid. Can't wait to see your straw bale plants!
I have run worm compost for a few years now, they need a "grit" to process the scraps. Just plain soil should be good enough. I add fine ground mineral earth for a somewhat improved fertilizer. Watch the moisture content, too soggy the worms move up the sides. I double the bins, the one on top has lots of holes to drain of excess moisture, the top is for the worms. My bins are in the kitchen itself, no bad smells ever. If you have soft fruits the worms will go slightly nuts, but it a way to get a mixture of nutrients. Avoid the allium and citrus, tiny amounts are ok. No animal products.
Ye I have started adding bits of sand in now for the grit. We’re ok with a little smell from the onions as it’s in the garage, I just need to make sure it chopped up well
Your almond tree looks good. Don't worry about how it looks. It will recover next year. Your trees need to focus its attention on growing roots not leaves or fruit. The tips of the branches are green>>that means its alive. Also, someone recommended neen oil for insect control. I second that.
Feed the “leafless”tree, then keep it well watered. I think you will be pleasantly surprised just how well it will recover! It’s always disheartening when that sort of thing happens, it’s totally out of your control which doesn’t help! ❤
So pleased that most of trees recovered 🌳 🎉
We were lucky with the others. Really hope the almond survives 🤞🏻🤞🏻
It tickles me pink every year in Spring when i see them grow, blossom and produce after planting, caring for and nurturing them.

Good luck with your fig tree. They seem to be quite good at surviving harsh conditions so fingers crossed yours will be fine 😊🤞🏻

Thanks for the comment ☺️ Hopefully it will be ok 🤞🏻
Oh that would break my heart to see an infestation like that. However, the almond may come good and end up being stronger. All the best.
Thank you. We hope so 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Thank you for the advice. We’ll give it a go and hopefully it will recover 🤞🏻
With the delay, you’ll have a chance to watch some videos on how to properly set up the straw bale gardens.
Meaning our intended way isn’t correct? Please share advice if you’ve got any
So sorry to see those pesty bugs attacked 😢. Hope the almond tree recovers.
Us too 🤞🏻🤞🏻
use neem oil....it helps also againts ticks...save for animals
Thanks for the tip. We’ll look for some when we’re next at the agricultural shops!
Try electro culture with your plants
Interesting. Don’t think we’ve heard of that.. What is electro culture?
@@SmithsdaleFarm it's just copper wire twisted on to stakes and pushed into the ground near your plant's. There are a few youtube channels trying it
Oh no! That poor almond tree 😢
Really hope it survives 🤞🏻 It was doing so well before!!
Love the content! Where did you order the worms, which company/website? Thanks!
