    I ended up getting a somewhat better grade of pet shaver myself for when I worked on the fur for my suit's head. The fur fibers tends to sneak in between the blades rather easily if your not careful on the lower grade shavers.
    I also noticed that some furs look different when they are shaved too.
    You did a good job on the tutorial, thanks. :)

    As you can see in the video (starting at 1m16s) I use all of the blade guards I have available to get a neat and nearly perfect shave. I rarely shave unguarded, so any shaver guard is better than none! ;3

    Hey, thanks for doing this tutorial. I don't use the guards on my clippers and I know I've definitely screwed some things up as a result. I should definitely try doing it this way, you always get such nice results.

    @MUSTGOCOSPLAY This shaver I am using is an Andis shaver, its lasted me a very long time I can't remember how much it was (I think in this case this is the one I recieved as a gift) ... Look in the pet grooming department, of your local department store. They usually sell them there, and you can price out a model that comes as a kit with oil and guards.

    i know this is quite an old video but you are doing an amazing job! What is the purpose of the oil on the hair clippers? Is that to make sure the blades always stay sharp or to keep hair from getting clogged? I'm a second time maker already shaving a fur suit. • @BlizzardtheWolf97
    @BlizzardtheWolf97 13 лет назад +1

    I'm working on a fursuit head with long-pile fur, and I'm unsure if shaving is necessary... the fur itself sort of smooths down and stays down extremely well, and it looks very nice when smoothed. However, it does fluff out at times, and it doesn't look very good then.. I can't afford a professional grooming kit either..
    ...Would there possibly be like a hair product or something I could use to make the fur on my suit stay smooth, without losing it's softness? Like styling mousse, maybe?

    • @treestarofficial6690
      @treestarofficial6690 7 лет назад +1

      Junius Arrakis scissors would probably work better than smoothing it down, you just have to be super careful not to cut it unevenly :P Using gell would make the fur greasy, I used gel on my suit's hair and it looks good but it feels gross when you touch it.

      I've done fleece heads and a very good maker by the name of fleece rot does them, the only thing I recommend is to try and minimize seams, brush the seams to hide them and always always pull it tight because wrinkly fleece on a nice suit kills it

    Will this leave a mess of fur? Also, are the shavers something I should be careful around? Is it going to cut me if I'm not careful?

    • @kimifur
      @kimifur 6 лет назад +1

      I does leave a mess. I like to put down some newspaper or plastic on my work surface then when I'm done I can clean up really easily. It won't cut you - clippers are very safe. You'd literally have to deliberately dig it at a particular angle into your skin without the guard protector on it, so... pretty unlikely! :)

    • @NylaTheWolf
      @NylaTheWolf 6 лет назад

      Alrighty then, thank you so much! I really appreciate it! I was worried that this would get lost in the flood of comments XD

    • @NylaTheWolf
      @NylaTheWolf 6 лет назад +2

      Also, quick question: I heard that for some parts of a fursuit, one of the supplies would be a razor blade. For example, a razor blade would be used to cut out the fur pattern so the fibers wouldn't get cut in the process. I was just wondering if there was an alternative to that, preferably one thats a bit safer for a minor to use? Like, if I could use a scissor or something else. If I can't use scissors, would knives be a decent alternative? I don't think we have razor blades in my house, and I doubt my parents would let me use one at all, since I have hurt myself making a fursuit before. I've once tried to make ear vents in my fursuit and tried using a kitchen knife instead of a razor blade because I had a lot of hot glue in that area, and accidentally ended up cutting my finger. Also, I've gotten several blisters from the hot glue, and my worst case was when I was using white fleece to line my fursuit head and forgot I had hot glue (which was on for a while so it was very hot and I think I could've seen some steam coming from it). I touched that part and got 3rd degree blisters on my middle finger and the side of my index finger and a few milder ones on the tips and on the side of my ring finger. It hurt like hell for a day or two. Then I accidentally popped a blister by taking a bandaid off and ripped off a piece of skin.... It was not fun at all...
      So I doubt my parents would trust me with a frickin razor blade. So long story short: Could I use a kitchen knife or a scissor or any other alternative instead? I mean, if I absolutely must use a razor blade, I'm sure my mom could help me with that instead, or I could put on my winter gloves so I don't cut myself.

    • @kimifur
      @kimifur 6 лет назад +1

      If you are able to get a reasonable set of fabric scissors (about $12) then you can cut the fur fabric very safely. The method, plus loads of other tips, are found in this great video (I just found it myself earlier!).

      AshAkitaisaLoser you can get an andis pro pet kit for about $75 from Wal-Mart's website
      The grooming kits that pet groomers use are usually too excessive for shaving a fursuit head. I know you wrote that forever ago but I thought I'd put this down for anyone scrolling through the comments
