This was a fun camp! I'd promised myself to get over to the alluringly named "Madwoman's Stones" for literally years, and this week was the one! I'd planned the ridiculous idea of running around with my poncho around my waist and wearing a wig, basically following me up to the location, but the weather was bloody awful so I just did the one crazy shot. It was only afterwards that I looked a bit closer at the name. Madwoman's not "Mad Woman's" set my mind churning. That's one person... so, possibly a character of even a principal position like a shaman. When I saw the site, it's fairly indistinct from many other groups of stones, but the ring of stones really stands out. In a pre peat era, I can really see people meeting there and sitting on them watching or listening to the Madwoman, for some ritual. Who knows!?
Loved this vid, I found MW Stones to have a great, if not slightly creepy atmosphere. It's probably just the evocative name though. Great camp Phil, liked the part where you acted the part of the mad woman 😂
@@Glossopwildcamp thanks Brian. I did plan on wearing my poncho as a skirt with the wig, and appearing in the background on the way up - weather was awful so I skipped the messing about!
Hi Phil, I wouldn't have been able to sleep knowing that dark haired madwoman was running around. Looked a great pitch, nice selfie and the breakfast looked tasty. Thanks for sharing pal. 12%😯😯😯😯😯😯😯
@@GoneWildCamping892 it was a great pitch, but I would say that where my tent was might not fare too well in wind. The ground was very soft and even though I was using mine inch stakes, they would be easily pulled out. There are good pitches behind the stones though, so you could pitch in a windy environment.
That would be an ideal time for me peace and quiet , a curry and some nice beers in a beautiful location, I need to start getting some lightweight camping gear together for nights away, I might start now for next year I already have a few items of kit . Take care Phil 🦇🦇🖤🖤
Hi Phil, just subscribed. Can't understand why it's taken me so long. A lot of your videos look like they are right up my street. Going to enjoy catching up and watching them I think. Do you know of any books on the origin of place names in the Peak District? I find it fascinating. Even Kinder Scout itself is a bit of a mystery. On the earliest surviving maps, I understand, it was spelt "Chunder", but the origin remains unknown, at least as far as I can tell. All best.
@@frederickridall628 Hi, and welcome, hope you enjoy and please tell me if you don't! Place names fascinate me, there are loads in the Peak District that just don't make sense. Thier meaning is probably lost in time. I haven't found any books yet, but keep looking. Kinder scout is clearly related to the river, but no idea what kinder means. The scout bit is easier, relating to the rocky crags. If you look on the website, you will find loads of sites saying the same word for word. I've found better results looking at archeological records which you can sometimes find online. If you find anything, please let me know!
I've added a link in the description. It's bloody awesome. This morning, when my alcohol stoves fuel was cold, it lit first strike. Thanks for watching, and commenting.

My favourite one yet.
@@Benny_Haigh cheers Benny. I was going to do some more mad woman bits, but weather wasn't good!
