I have the same exact vehicle, and the demonstration represented here is completely missing steps specially at the end of the video. It is horribly difficult to reinsert the 2 white tabs, because there is no room to put them back, since it lacks the space to do it. You have to removed more screwed bolts to make the tabs accessible and required a lot of time to do so.
I have a 2018 Ford Explorer. His instructions worked fine for me. Yes, the white clips are difficult to put back on, but they are doable. I had to crawl and lay on the floorboard, with a headlamp and flathead screwdriver to force it back in.
I had the filter replaced as part of the normal maintenance schedule by the dealer. When I followed the procedure in the video I popped out the right side pin and thought I could get to the cabin filter; it was tight but I was successful. I didn't realize until I was jockeying the door back into place that the dealer never inserted the pins after my last service. They just reinserted the white pins and let the door ride on the rod. I did the same --works great and I only have a few cuts on my hands from tether that is located in a spot to small for adult hands.
Pro Tip - even though you can access the filter cover without removing the white clips if you force the glove box just a little to far open the part of the glove box the white clip goes through will break. I did this trying to flat rate this repair. Remove the white clips unless your forearms are very thin.
Why does mine still smell that urine smell after replacing the filter; also how come you didnt show the reinsert of the white plastic pins..I'm having a darn time trying to put those back in
Hi. Thanks for the best video for this so far. Total pain to do this. You don't show it on the video-I didn't see that you put back in the white plugs. Do you think they are really necessary? The reason I ask, is my last Explorer had mice getting in through the air filter. It's a chore to get those plugs out and would prefer to leave them out so I can access air filter if need be. I put the glove box in without the plugs and it appears to operate correctly.
The engine air filter and the cabin air filter are going to be different styles of air filters. We only have the cabin air filter available. www.etrailer.com/Air-Filter/PTC/3513780.html
It seems they glossed over the the reinstallation of white clips intentionally. There is no easy way to do it. Clearly engineers who work with paper and not on actual vehicles designed this moronic system. I just changed the filter on my daughters Honda, also behind the glove box, and it took all of 3 minutes. Best of all you didn’t disassemble the glove box to do it!
We recommend checking them at least once a year and see how it looks. Some areas are going to be dustier and have more pollen than others. www.etrailer.com/Air-Filter/PTC/3513780.html

Thanks for this. Dealer replaced my filter fine but forgot to reattach the dampening tether. Quick fix with your info.
We are happy we could help!
Funny on how they didn't elaborate on how to get the white clips back in because it's damn near impossible.
We missed that in the video. They can be a bit trick but if you take your time they'll snap back in.

I gave up on trying to get the white clips back in. Way too much of a hassle and the glove box seems to operate fine without them installed.
I used mini needle nose pliers and worked fine

***According to Ford, the airflow is downwards. NOT Upwards.***
The stock filter on my wife's 2018 Explorer was installed with the arrow facing upwards, same as in this video.
I pulled out my old filter from my 2017 and the arrow was pointed downwards
Thanks. Helped me install mine quickly.
Glad it helped!!

That's entirely up to you but I recommend putting everything back together as it's intended.
@@etrailer thanks
seems to me those white clips are necessary
They are a real pain in the ass
Regarding the air filter that you just installed. If I get a K&N filter, do they use the same air filter in the engine and also the cabin filter?

You didn’t show how to put back the pins
You will just need to push the pins back into the appropriate hole that you removed them from.
