Personally I took it more as indifference, she was just completely done with him and want nothing more to do with him or that life. I would say Hongli was the crazy one.
I think he fulfilled her wish to be free of court politics because she was stated to be a woman of her clan instead of associated with the court as Empress. They fell in love before he became Emperor and before her status as a wife (and marriage is when a woman officially and spiritually loses her connection to her own family as she is taken into her husband’s) so that is how she will be remembered instead of as just an Empress.

I hate that Ruyi had to die to get away from him and his betrayal. Her death was entirely his fault. The nerve of him to erase her from the histories to try and cover up his own shame - disgusting. I hope this haunted him for the rest of his days.
I'm not a historian (though I love ancient Chinese culture), but I believe HongLi erased the Empress as a way of honoring her request to be free of the palace. She also wished it for her son, which is one of the reasons, the 12th prince wasn't selected as the Crown Prince. It was his way of granting Ruyi's wish, even in death.

He continued hunting with the other princes and nobles. He most likely hated her even after death.
Ruyi is one of the most strong harem woman i have ever met. To put up with everything that has happened to her she really needed serious energy. I actually am happy that she died because she can now be free from the emperor. not every woman can tolerate this nonsense and she did so with courage. but she was tired and needed rest.

Qianlong, you haven't paid attention to Ruyi for a long time, that's why you believed she was fine on your last visit. Too hypocritical! As much as I find the ending poetic and holds our attention and romanticizes love. I believe that in reality Qianlong hated Ruyi and Ruyi couldn't stand Qianlong anymore. Honestly, I love Ruyi's character, but I believe there was more hate between the two than real love.
To be honest, I did feel angry about the way Ruyi gets treated towards the end because the Emperor got brainwashed. However, what I appreciate here is the Emperor's understanding somehow that this is what Ruyi wanted. So he respected her last wishes and erased her records. We, as viewers feel shocked but he also somewhere mentions that this is what Ruyi must have wanted. Although he may have done so in anger, he eventually respected her and did some damage control.
