  • I've ridden past this trail once before as we headed out on the Kenosha Pass to Breckenridge shuttle ride. I've since heard somewhere that the West Jefferson was one of the best MTB descents near Denver Colorado, so I had to go find out for myself. While I wouldn't consider this one of the best, it certainly is a fun ride.
If you have any other suggestions on the best mountain bike trails in Colorado, let me know!

Just did this yesterday. The video helped! After the grinding 11.5 mile trek up the Colorado trail to Georgia Pass I took the 4.4 mile West Jefferson trail and it did not disappoint! The trial was moist, no downed trees, and I saw no one the whole time. It felt like I was riding in the Northwest. I absolutely loved the rocky, rooty stuff and the switchbacks definitely kept my on my toes. Great descent!

Glad to hear the video helped! And I'm glad they cleared up those trees! That ride is an epic for sure. Very backcountry. Glad you liked it!

Now let's wait a minute here. We just rode it today after first riding from Kenosha.
West Jefferson is darn tough. The first mile from Georgia Pass is one foot wide loose granite on the side of the mountain. After that lots and lots of rocks and water crossing. As I was worn out by the ride from Kenosha, I probably didn't do the trail justice, but fresh or not, it's a wicked tough tough ride.

Did you watch my video first? I hope I didn't misrepresent the ride! I tried to include all those pesky switchbacks and some river crossings while still trying to keep the video interesting.
But yeah. Its a tough ride. A real backcountry type of ride with lots of interruptions to the flow!

Hi, I'm planning do the Kenosha‐Breckenridge CT on August, any suggestions on a shuttle service from Breckenridge to the Kenosha trailhead?

    • @DustyTrailsMTB

I dont know of any. Everyone I know has self shuttled, and my riding buddies are the type that would splurge on a shuttle.
Sorry! Regardless, you're gonna love it!

That trail is also sick in late September when the leaves start to turn! What other trails are you hoping to ride?

Thanks bud! I wrestled with the middle bit about the switchbacks and trees. I had trouble deciding whether it slowed the video down or whether it added some interest. Ultimately I felt like I needed to showcase the trail truthfully, and just showing off the flowy bits would feel like a lie. I'm happy with how it turned out, so I'm stoked to hear you like it too!

Haha. I thought maybe the edits with the down trees and switchbacks didn't serve their purpose!
