I’m Ukrainian and I met my boyfriend right before the war started. We were attending the same college for half a year, walking almost every evening and even early morning.
After the war had started we moved to the different countries, because we weren’t together at the time it all began.
Now for already 2.5 years we have a long distance relationships, meeting each other once a half year, calling each other and… believing in our future, trying to understand each other, as you also said, showing and sharing love every day to remind ourselves, that we are still the same people (but we change only for a better, for our future, by studying and working hard!), that distance it’s just a temporary part of our common lives, and that above that all is love. Love includes the strongest power to go through all the hardships while still being happy and fulfilled.
Also you two are very lovely couple 🥺♥️♥️♥️

Thinking about relationships reminds me of my lifelong hatred of men always having to be the ones to court women and make the first move all the time

I will also say its because men quite literally ruled society and women did not have the privilege to make their own choices. even if you move to more modern times say, the 60s, it was still societally frowned upon for women making the first move claiming her as "being too easy" "a slut" "too forward" and "acting like a man, stay in your lane"
it's only until VERY VERY recently women aren't usually getting the same treatment. i'm not sure how old you are but maybe that puts things into perspective.
