This video is not meant to be critical as some of my videos have been. I'm not saying that all the dramas included have done a good job in highlighting the problem of bullying, the causes, the effects. Actually, you might have noticed especially in the school dramas, bullying is a common thing. In fact, I have trouble finding a school drama that does not refer to bullying. But most of the time, the subject is only mentioned furtively: it's not the center of the story and it doesn't even seem to be that important, as if it was almost something normal (although bullying is never presented as something positive, it is at least presented as something so banal that we don't dwell on it).
This is just my personal opinion, but if I had to give you some names of dramas that didn't really do a good and thorough job on the subject, here they are:
    - True Beauty : Why is JuKyung being bullied? In the drama it seems more like her face is the cause of all her problems
    - 18 Again : The victim and the abuser become friends without any apology from the abuser, nor any real focus on the seriousness of his actions
    - Love Alarm : Same thing. A student who is being bullied for being gay is introduced only in order to hear the character say that love is not something that can be controlled, like his love for the female lead. We never see the character again and the subject is only addressed for the sake of the main character.
    - Navillera : Although I liked the drama and the two characters, I found that the reconciliation is a bit quick and that 'the victim' is the one who makes the first move. Both characters are touching but I found that the violence of the Bully was just left out and was justified by his own trauma, as often.
    - Uncanny Counter : same
Bullying is not only school bullying, although it is the one we see most in kdramas because it is, in fact, in South Korea and in the world, one of the most common forms of violence against young people. But bullying is also present on social networks, in the world of work, in sports, in the army, in short, everywhere.
I also have to be honest: I'm not as knowledgeable on the subject as I was with my videos on toxic relationships. So, I can't say I understand people who go through something so horrible as bullying, but I want to at least say that I try to understand. And I tell myself that if what I went through, this, which seems insignificant to me, still influenced me in my relationship with others, I can't imagine the pain of being the target of someone who decides to make your life a living hell. No one has the right to mistreat you, no one deserves to be treated like that.
    • D.P: NETFLIX SOUTH KOREAN SHOW EXPOSING THE MILITARY’S DARK SIDE
“It is no coincidence that the show is set in 2014, when several high-profile cases of army abuse shocked the nation and sparked a public outcry. In April that year, private Yoon Seung-joo, 23, had died after being beaten by members of the senior ranks - an incident uncovered only months later by a civilian-led rights group. Before his death, he had reportedly suffered other forms of cruel treatment including being denied food and sleep. Later that year, a sergeant named Im went on a shooting rampage, killing five fellow soldiers, allegedly in revenge for bullying. Then two soldiers died of apparent suffocation during captivity training, with hoods on their heads and their hands tied behind their backs.” (- www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-58660760 )
    • SCHOOL BULLYING IN SOUTH KOREA : REALITY VS KDRAMAS
“School violence and bullying is a serious issue in South Korea. In 2015, it was estimated that 3 out of 10 students experience bullying in school. It is hardly surprising then, that high school dramas often depict scenes of bullying and/or violence. […] Horrific real-life incidents on the news remind us that despite everything dramas do to build a complex and dynamic character for the bully, real life is perhaps even more complex and dynamic, and the true brutality of what victims may suffer is not easily captured in a drama.” (- seoulbeats.com/2019/06/school-violence-and-bullying-in-k-dramas-a-reality-check/ )
“Bullying in South Korean schools has been gaining national attention after multiple suicide cases over the past couple of years. One notable incident that happened was in 2011 when a 15-year-old student from Daegu killed himself after two years of constant bullying. It was the 14th suicide believed to be caused by bullying in Daegu in less than two years. He left a suicide note stating he was beaten, got his money stolen and also dragged around by a cord around his neck. He also wrote how they also attempted to do the water torture on him but they decided not to after the other student said it was too dangerous. In his suicide note, the latest victim wrote that he was beaten in locations beyond the reach of surveillance cameras. School bullying usually takes place in areas where there are no CCTV cameras such as bathrooms and classrooms. There are about 18,179 cameras in schools around Seoul, but nearly 93% of them are low resolution and cannot help identify bullies and victims.” (- blog.ubitto.com/culture/bullying-in-south-korea/ )

    • STATISTICS
In America : “Between 20 and 28 percent of children in grades 6-12 report having been bullied at least once in their lifetime. And since only about 36 percent of children report being bullied to an adult, the actual number of children and adolescents being bullied is significantly higher. Bullying does not necessarily end once you become an adult, either; 27 percent of adults report being bullied in the workplace, although fewer than 20 percent will actually report it. More than half of workplace bullying is perpetrated by a supervisor or other person in power. (- study.com/academy/lesson/bullying-in-america-facts-statistics.html )
In South Korea : “there is still a high number of teenagers between the ages of 10 and 19 taking their own lives -- 353 in 2010, or almost one youth suicide every day, according to the South Korea National Statistics Office.” (- edition.cnn.com/2012/07/25/world/asia/south-korea-school-bully/index.html )
“40% of all children participated in school bullying.” (- www.researchgate.net/publication/8421458_Prevalence_of_School_Bullying_in_Korean_Middle_School_Students )
    - More here : www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/nation/2018/11/181_254705.html
N.B : I had a hard time finding recent and reliable percentages, and I have to admit that I am quite skeptical about the (rather 'low') figures compared to the testimonies I have read from Koreans, talking about frequent, widespread and violent bullying. I remain someone who does not live in South Korea so I let you make your own opinion by getting more information by yourself if you wish.
    • BULLYING IN KOREAN WORKPLACE
“South Korean employees have been bullied for a long time now. It was just last year when a video of an employer, Yang Jin-ho -CEO of WeDisk and robot developer K-Technology assaulting his employee. The perpetrator was seen brutally slapping the victim across the face. The victim does not retaliate but lowers his head in a posture that combines fear and remorse. The violence does not end here as he continues to berate the victim and assault him again. Yang then orders the man to get on his knees and apologize, before striking him over the head one final time and then walking away.” ( - blog.ubitto.com/culture/bullying-in-south-korea/ )
    • THE MOVEMENT YOU MAY HAVE FOLLOWED
“The Korean entertainment industry has been riddled with a series of bullying allegations against celebrities since mid-February and while it might not be the first time such allegations have arisen, it is certainly the biggest bullying scandal to date. The public has reacted with criticism and anger, but experts are stressing that this scandal needs to be properly addressed.” (- koreajoongangdaily.joins.com/2021/03/03/culture/features/bully-bullying-schoolviolence/20210303160100530.html )
N.B : I invite you to be cautious with the information given, it is about judicial affairs and I am not inviting you to cancel a certain artist mentioned nor to question the testimonies, I simply ask you to keep a certain distance on the information.

    • JISOO’S CASE
“One of his alleged targets wrote: "The word 'bullying' is not enough to describe everything. I was a victim of all kinds of school violence like being made an outcast, violence, blackmailing, insults and abusive language."
Another former schoolmate said he was traumatised by his experiences, adding: "When I first saw him on TV after he debuted, I thought he wouldn't last long, but I was wrong. It was really shocking seeing his face on the first floor of department stores, in Olive Young (a health and beauty chain store), in dramas and movies, but most crucially, it was shocking to hear middle school girls talking about him, saying they are his fans." (- www.straitstimes.com/life/entertainment/ji-soo-apologises-for-school-bullying-may-be-replaced-in-k-drama )
N.B : I want to point out that the experiences described by the victims are simply abominable, worse than what you could see in the kdramas. I also want to add that Jisoo admitted the facts and apologized.
Thanks for watching this video and for supporting my channel!

I absolutely despise it when people ship the bully and the victim together just because they’re both attractive. It bothers me as someone who had been through severe bullying before. I had bottled feelings of strong resentment towards my bullies, they made me suffer so much and for no reason. Of course I’d hate them. So what part of that makes people find it attractive? I assure you, there’s nothing ‘ romantic ’ or ‘ cute ’ about it. Like, I understand enemies to lovers as it isn’t a bully and victim scenario but when it comes to people romanticising bullying it’s just…revolting. Call me someone who overreacts, I don’t care…I believe I’m saying the truth.

Its hard just to see this in kdramas but i cant even imagine how horrible experience it would be for the victims i really hope the schools take strict actions in punishing the bully rather than just saying to 'get along' with them....and what triggers me even more is how many people see it happening but doeasnt raise a voice

This video literally touched me personally . In the part in Sweet home when he asked what was the reason and the bully gave him " because the sky was clear " . I started crying cause it was like deja vu . A girl used to bully me to the part where I actually thought of sucide . No one helped me . Not the teachers , not any kids , and being feared of embarrassment I didn't even tell my parents . Which I regret to this day . I'd always have a aching head because she would slam my head in the bathroom doors , hit my arms with a ruler , call me names , push me and even sometimes slap me that my cheeks used to get red .
The day I actually thought I'd hurt myself , I held the courage to ask her . Why ? Why did she do this ?
    The answer I got .
Because my watch is ugly .
Basically she didn't care and it was all a joke to her .
Though she apologized for it all two years later , the memory is stuck with me and will be always .
Bullying can is no joke and people loose lives over it .

It's so sad, especially the scenes that you have put together and the lyrics of the song.
At 3:15 when they were telling him to jump, like he wouldn't, what will they do if he does? Say that it was a "friendly" banter, or he was too "senstive" or it was "academic pressure" ?
It's sick that this is real too and how no actions are taken against it. People like that don't realize that they are playing with someone's fucking life.
    They are sick.

I used to bully people few years ago. I think it started in 4th grade (yeah I know it's that early) it was one person but the older I got the worse it got and since I was a good student the teachers didn't really take it a big deal. I didn't physically bully them I verbally did. I never thought I was at wrong at that time. But I think around the end of 6th grade was when I stopped cause I thought that what I did was wrong. I know the people who got hurt may hate me but I think people do deserve a second chance. Even one of my classmate who I bullied back in 5th grade is now my best friend. I'm not trying to justify these kind of behaviors but if they are willing to change and accept the punishment and apologize it would be nice to give them a second chance. Also my childhood let's say wasn't the best and it had an effect on my mental health. I'm not trying to give an excuse. I just want to talk in my pov. There are a lot of bullies like me who kinda have this reason to why they do it (not trying to excuse) like Seok Kyung from penthouse is an example. Whereas some are just trash like true beauty uhm so yeah sorry for the long rant and thnk u for reading this.

I kind of agree with you. One of my bullies in 7th grade is now my best friend. So yah, if the bully wholeheartedly regrets what they did and apologizes for it, they do deserve a second chance.

This was such a beautiful edit. However it was really difficult for me to watch for the first time because the topic of bullying always, always triggers me. I was bullied in my teenage years. It always starts with a harmless joke or a passing remark and somehow it becomes so unbearable when they start locking you inti janitor cabinets. I have developed intense claustrophobia because of the trauma I have from those years when I used to be locked in places by my bullies just so they can have a laugh at the way I cried in there.
But still, watching these dramas and seeing the victims fighting back gives me some semblance of satisfaction.
Even though I regret not fighting back myself when I was the victim.
As always, your edits are beautiful and touching

I would include Soloman’s perjury. That show although could have gone more in depth, I believe did a good job at portraying the affects of bullying, again slightly superficially but in a good sense. The bully wasn’t really forgiven and I liked that fact. I loved this fmv, all of your fmvs give the best list of shows to watch and your synthesis comment for this was amazing! I grew up as an emotionally damaged kid I was very awkward at socialising and got bullied since a young age till I grew older high school was nothing but torture for me, even in dreams it comes to haunt me it’s all nightmares.
I did chores for the bullies, got pushed, punched and even slapped in front of the whole class no one dared to stand up for me even my one and only friend is just a silent witness but it’s not his fault we didn’t had any choice it was like the Korean high school bully movies(serious intense ones) with hair pulling, slaps and suicide everyday was survival for me the fear of getting humiliated stayed throughout the day it was the worst feeling and life experience ever no one deserves to go through such experiences but important part pay attention ⚠️
Whether good or bad the experiences you go through in life it has a purpose and meant to make you better so don’t judge your situations too quickly and hold on to that hope growing up alone I learnt how to cope with loneliness and staying positive and hopeful and it was all worth it cause now it’s trained my mind and I’ve become stronger because I kept holding on since then and that’s why I’m able to survive, stay positive at times when most people give up hope or lose faith but I don’t that’s the gift I got through my past traumatic high school experience.
I’m sure a lot of us have had such traumatic experiences in past that has affected us till this day, present and I won’t lie it takes a long time to heal but never give up on yourself no matter how anxious you feel, how depressed you are because of all the trauma you’ve had in the past embrace your traumas and accept Whatever happened for your good and move on, work on character development and don’t become what your past life could have turned you into some cold hearted person because you will be your own worst enemy so fight it! Fight yourself and embrace your traumas it’s all meant to improve you 🙌🏻
And to all those going through bad experiences in the present day/days remember you are not alone, the right people will come into your life at the right time not now, not tomorrow or day after maybe but one day for sure so don’t judge too quickly and keep your hopes high don’t give up No matter how heavy the burden is keep holding on because at the end you will be rewarded for it through wisdom, understanding, courage or strength or anything else that people will be truly amazed and it will be your time to shine ✨

it's such a great video as usual, the way you edit it, the message in the end and your pin comment always leave a strong impact on me thanks for your hard work! when it comes to bullying in kdramas I also noticed that there's this hierarchy : the bullies are often wealthier and bc of that they know they won't get in trouble for what they're doing (like in itaewon class for example). it's the same with bullying in the workplace. it makes it even more infuriating bc it's like the victim is never to get justice, and the richer will always be protected

This video really brought back some traumatic memories. Thank you for enlightening people more on the subject "bullying". And in True beauty I know it might sound ridiculous that Jukyung was bullied cuz of her face, but its really not ridiculous.
Not to rant, but I was bullied cuz I called a girl, more specifically my best friend, a "bitch" or a "F*cker*(I'm not really sure the exact meaning of the word I said since I'm not from an English speaking country and the word was in my country language). I know it sounds cliche but the girl I called such a name was like the queen bee in our class, and when she said something everyone followed it, though there were some bystanders. I was in 7th grade back then and I called her such a name cuz she and my other classmates told me that they wouldn't be going to school on this particular day, but in reality everyone had gone to school except me. I know it's pretty stupid to get angry at that but mind you I was only 12 years old at that time. And from the next day no one talked with me, not even looked at me. I called her 'that' name in a group chat so everyone had screenshots of it and they all were showing it to each other and laughing at me. I'm glad that it was verbal bullying only but still it was hard to cope with. I was suicidal too at that time. Although she did become 'friends' with me after about 5 months, I was again bullied twice the following year. The first time there was just no reason. When I asked her what's wrong, she told me that she was trying to protect me. But protect me by BULLYING ME?? And even if she befriended me again, I got angry with her cuz after some time she had backbited me and called me a beggar. And not even to my face but to someone else. But she bullied me for that cuz I got angry at her. Afterwards, I was the person who befriended her, not cuz I wanted her as a friend, but cuz I didn't want to get bullied anymore.
Anyway, to anyone who has read this far, thanks for coming to my pep talk. And "that" girl already left my school so its all fine now.

I have been bullied and still am being bullied I even had to go to the hospital because I got called a mistake at life and attention seeker and many inappropriate other words I can’t really say on here but it was really bad I still cry every night because my family also used words that my bullies used but they don’t know it is hurting me. This video helped me know that there are other bullied victims out their and it really hurts seeing this I got spit on and gum in my hair and fights but this is just breaking my heart

HEY! I just came back here after watching Revenge of Others and omg...if you ever make a part two of this video, make sure to include Revenge of Others, it pretty much revolves AROUND school bullying, and also Weak Hero Class 1.
In your pinned comment I noticed how you highlighted on some dramas that don't do a good job of representing bullying, but Revenge is literally the perfect show that touches on the subject, and I'd love it if you include it in a future video because it's my fav thing atm lol

Honestly bullying is so disgusting, stop trying to hide your insecurities behind others black eyes, and even if it's scary if you see someone being bullied do something!

Thanks for highlighting this important issue .I hope bullying won't take at anyplace and if someone does bully someone people will raise finger against it rather than blaming the victim .I hope society will consider this as a serious issue and everyone will play their role to eliminate it.

When i was little i was bullied. They would laugh at me in the bathroom (they opened the door and saw me) (boys saw me) i was 6/7 years old and they’re were 12/13 that time and 3 girls would always push me and laugh at me cause i was a other skin color i told the teacher but he did nothing. I still think about it🫤

I mean in sweet home the bullies destroyed his whole life just because "the sky was clear".they changed a lively and happy boy into a living corpse .. He attempted suicide so many time.

This is horrible. Why would they ever do this to people I know it happens in real life and I was lucky to have gone to a schools that do not tolerate bullying. I hope this will stop eventually.
I am so sorry to everyone who had to undergo such cruelty
