This has most of the stylistic trademarks of YES, but it's still just a small taste of the deep rabbithole of creativity, imagination & virtuosity of this greatest band of all time.
If you want to have a musically transformative experience, continue down this rabbit hole to the entire album Close To The Edge. Three songs, three masterpieces.
YES, the greatest show on earth. I've been dancing to Roundabout for 53 years. Enjoy your journey in the divinity of YES. A song called And You And I is such a piece. Most of Jon's idears are of the divine. YES live is spiritual. After a few listens, you'll hear how the piece intertwins ✨️🎶🙏🎶✨️
I've seen them 8 times i think, over 50 years Every time I walked out from the show with a feeling so uplifting I can't put it in words. We'd all say the same thing, wow unbelievable There's nothing like them just like there's nothing like (Genesis). If you want great music you could spend i lifetime listening to music from the 1970s Thank you 👍✌️
YES is the greatest progressive rock band in my opinion. I just subscribed. I subscribe to anyone who reacts to them as will many other YES fans so keep them coming. Loads of greats including "Awaken", "The Gates of Delirium", "Close to the Edge", "And You and I", "Turn of the Century", "Starship Trooper", "Perpetual Change", "The Revealing Science of God", lots more.
What are the chances? I am actually sitting in front of my lap top listening to you for the first time and I'm wearing MY Missoula Smokejumpers shirt! My dad was a Smokejumper for 4 summers in the mid 1950s. I just visited the smokejumpers loft in Missoula about 6 weeks ago and my dad passed away the following week. Thanks for the memories!
A great song by my favorite band. But, not the pinnacle of YES. Great reaction. I hope you'll try some more. South Side of the Sky on this album is incredible. Cheers!
Of course they were coming back! I was never much into prog rock at the time, but Roundabout is brilliant on so many levels. This is one of the most reacted to classic rock tunes on youtube. In fact, there is a compilation video of several youtuber Roundabout reactions! Great fun!
Great Reaction! I kept getting Distracted by the "Steer Head" Medallion on your Necklace.... it Looked like a Guy, "Smokejumper", with his Arms Raised, Standing on top of the Plane and Moving around!!!!
Entertaining reaction to a beautiful composition from brilliant musicians and very talented producer Eddie Offord. After over 54 years their music is still compelling listening.
I remember a book with Yes lyrics I bought in the seventies, and they mentioned Strawinsky, Tsjaikowski and Rimski-Korsakov among others as inspiration.
That swell at the start was a firmly struck piano chord held until it decayed away. Then the tape from that isolated track was played backwards, and integrated back into the mix. The snippet you know from TikTok was originally used for an anime series called JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, and became well known meme bases on that. Not that I was aware of either. The album was the fourth by Yes, and it featured new keyboard player Rick Wakeman. The guitarist joined for the third album, while the other three were original members. The drummer left after this album. Lots of line up changes then, and since.
The melodic inventiveness of The Beatles married to the instrumental muscle of King Crimson, baked to perfection in classically-inspired arrangements. This, as they say, is the tip of the iceberg. But the four minute edit was actually an AM radio hit in early '72. Different times...
If I had a dollar for every time I have listened to this song, I would have a lot of dollars. I was lucky enough to see them live in Austin Texas in the way back.
I miss-read that at first... I read "I would have a set of dollars" which gave me a solid laugh, but then after re-reading, I slapped my dyslexia in the face and made this comment.
Yah, so, a journey, you say? Try their piece called Close To The Edge. It's a much longer journey that manages to be fresh every single time, even after a half century of listening to it.
If you think Chris Squire's basslines here are nuts, go listen to his playing on Tempus Fugit /Rick Wakeman - the best keyboardist there ever was, is, or likely ever will be
I think the process of creation in this band was long and sometimes tiring, which explains that some members went on to other adventures but sometimes came back, because the creativity in Yes was so high. And, they did perform all this life, sometimes in even a better version then the studio one.
I’m 70 years old and I remember the song well. I enjoyed your commentary and thought your insights were for the most part near spot on. One criticism I would make is -try to avoid talking over the music. The occasional “wow” or “okay” is fine, but if you’re going to into discourse about the musical style or th instrumentation or any sort of rabbit hole, stop the music, have your say, rewind the music a bit and carry on.
Now you know why we who spent our adolescence and young adulthood in the 1970's call today's music CRAP! This was just another GREAT song on the AM radio in my 63 Chevy II driving to and from high school daily. No big deal you see, because there would be MORE NEW ONES tomorrow!
You just put your toe in the water with yes. Dig deep into the discography and you'll hear a lot of things you never heard before. Their imaginative approach and virtuosity made them special in their day and the inspiration of many bands that followed. For a period in the 70s the ideas just flowed out of them. Each member had their own unique style and sound, they were inventing it and each had the talent to stand out on their own with their instrument. Nobody sounded like Steve Howe, nobody sounded like Chris squire, nobody sounded like Rick wakeman, nobody sounded like bill bruford and nobody sounded like Jon Anderson.. somehow all these individualists put ego aside and made it work.
Why does it sound like all these RUclipsrs took a crash course at an "announcer school", and over-enunciate everything while accenting random words in each sentence?
Not sure about anyone else... But I was a professional DJ for the last 6 years and we learn to fill the void. I was also raised by a dad who served 21 years in the Air Force as a television and radio broadcaster. So... Yep... That may be it, or maybe you under-enunciate? Thanks for checking out my video and leaving a comment!
HAH! Let me offer a suggestion... Find music on Spotify... Any streaming source... They are easy to find, frankly easier than finding my video. You can even find the EXACT song you want. They come opinion free, reaction free, and may give you what you are looking for. My title says REACTION, that means making faces, and TALKING... I think that's pretty self explanatory. You bought what you paid for... Just speaking for myself, and not shutting up.
Yes is the greatest music for your soul ever! Keep doing more Yes!!
This has most of the stylistic trademarks of YES, but it's still just a small taste of the deep rabbithole of creativity, imagination & virtuosity of this greatest band of all time.
YES!!! Their transitions, vocals and musical genius are what makes them the greatest band there ever was or will ever be.🤩
they do it all live too....and its still perfect
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One of my favorite songs from one of my favorite bands. Awesome reaction Tim!

That's a strong list
Progressive rock at it's finest!
I used to live in Missoula! I got married there and four of my five kids were born there. And Yes has been my favorite band since 1975

Lol!!! Your not wrong! That's hilarious!
Best band, ever. Period.
Best...band...ever. Thanks for the reaction!!!
One of my all-time favorite songs. That _BASS_ is nuts! Give "Frankenstein" by Edgar Winter a listen. My all-time favorite, bar none.
A rite of passage for music reactors!

Piano chord played and recorded, and played back backwards to create the amazing opening.
As far as being on a journey with the song, you should check out their song "Closer to the Edge", just update the passport first. It'll blow your mind

The absolute definition of “progressive” rock.
