Kayley Melissa I watch your videos and I was wondering if you could please do a video for people who have curly hair. Have a great new year and a good day
Honestly Safiya is such a talented person. She researches so much and puts so much work into every aspect of her videos and makes pretty much a tv episode. This is exactly what RUclips is about she is such a icon on the platform to me. Great job girl you killin it.
I was 13 in 1967, first outfit, nailed it. We wore shift dresses, poor boy sweaters and plaid skirts. Yes, we wore white lipstick and Capezio shoes. The maxi dress, or caftan, was typically worn by women for evening events. We teens stayed with the minis. Your hippie look is too nice and put together, they wore random pieces and were dirty. You did a great job!
My mom was graduating high school in LA in ‘67, but she didn’t seem to be wearing any of these styles in the pictures I’ve seen of her. Her wedding dress in ‘69 kind of makes me think that maxi dress. Though she just informed me that her dad did buy her mini-skirts occasionally but it wasn’t common for her to wear. She imparted on me more what were the rules from her school, and being very Catholic (though she didn’t go to Catholic school). She would tell me how all the way up through high school, they were told they couldn’t wear pants. Had to be a dress or skirt. Being a tomboy when I was younger, I would have HATED that.
@@kimberlyhaines107 I graduated high school in 1974, so I wasn't much behind your mom. We were not allowed to wear pants in Junior High (through 8th grade) but by 1970 we could wear pants to high school. There were so many social changes in just those few years!
I'm still a hippie...always been a soap n water girl, tho. Here in Oregon, there are tons of hippies...wn't say they're any dirtier than the general population, Many amazing artists, musicians, performers, organic foods. It's a be who u want kinda thing.
I turned five and started kindergarten in 67. My mother, grandmother and I all had versions of all of these outfits. Those clothes are associated with very happy memories of my childhood. Your research for this project was *spot on!* Excellent work!
Safiya, I think it would be really neat to see you do a video about "What we thought we would wear" focusing on 1950's and 1960's science fiction styles--like what people in the 50s thought we would be wearing in the year 2000 for instance.
I love how seamlessly you go from informative, eloquent and well-enunciated voiceovers to "Oh, I've married 45 men and kept all their jewels hahahaha" and "look at my bush. Look how big it is." You are such a well-rounded personality to watch and I love it
NOW DO CELEBRITIES! You can do "I dressed like Madonna for a week" "I dressed like Cher for a week" "I dressed like Beyoncé for a week" "I dressed like Audrey Hepburn for a week" etc, etc, etc . . .
Don't change the format too much, these videos are part of why everyone thinks you're one of the top original creators on youtube right now. Plus you're educating us. I want to see 1940s button dresses and hats and stuff. This could be like a fashion history video thing for the future!! People'll be like "what did people wear in 1911?! And then they'll be like, that youtube woman makes videos for this, you'll be famous hundreds of years from now. Haven't eaten brekkie yet, gone a bit mad. The future!!! Silver!
I really, really love these videos. Not only are they so much fun to watch, but I actually learn a lot as well. I love how much work you put into your videos! And I love when Tyler gets involved, too!
that too gone trough several variation during the decades, from silver/holo designs, to military like styles and post apocalypse ones only to say a few...and these only to mention sci fi based still on Earth...
LOVE this!!! Every woman I was close to in my family wore these kind of outfits. I accidentally found my Aunt's wiglet looking for something in the closet when I was a teen and I thought it was a rodent. The long maxi dresses were called "hostess gowns" in New York. My grandma and her sister would wear these comfortable maxi dresses when entertaining for the holidays.
i'm mostly interested in the 1940's fashion but i love learning about everything related from 1920-1959 so... videos about every decade would be awesome
Since you guys were in such old timey clothes, you should have walked into a store, asked what year it is, then when they answer say: YES IT WORKED!!! IT REALLY WORKED!!! while running out of the store.
that was so cool! I was born in 1952 so I totally related to this video and it was fun to get a nice flash from the past. I wore more of the mini paisly dress style but also wore jeans and T shirts...but I embroidered flowers or zodiac signs on the jeans. There were also two jean fashions that we all wore...one was making a pair of jeans into a skirt by slitting open the inside seams of the jeans and then stitching the fronts together and the backs together.....and the other was making your bell bottom jeans MORE bell bottom by cutting open a portion of the outside seams open and adding a triangle shaped piece of fabric. Very groovy.
@@argentum3919 Everybody WASN'T slim LOL I thought I was horrendously fat (okay, I probably was maybe 5 pounds 'overweight' at most LOL) when I was a teen (in the 60s)
I've been trying to work out why I love her videos so much, and why she is so popular. Through her videos we don't see her like other youtubers. Maybe it's because she only mainly films with Tyler but there's something. It's like you know her better and she appreciates her viewers, especially in comparison to other youtubers. I forget she has almsot 4 million subscribers sometimes. She still has that 100k or less feel. Don't get me wrong - I love this about her. It's why I love her channel.
I think it's because she's personal and quirky but also knows her audience and how to deliver to them. She also keeps a routine/structure with her videos and knows how to edit and script them properly at a professional level.
Peasant look will be back. Witchy broom skirts, head scarf, peasant blouse, lace-up boots. Something like that. Every five years, I swear it's recycled.
Ying Zhao Yes she has but I’m talking about going more in depth talking about the specific iconic figures who have inspired the looks she has been creating. Okay like the purple and orange outfits were my favorite, but can we take a moment to appreciate how damn GOOD safiya looks in orange??? like that's an absurd super power and she pulls it off SO WELL
Safiya seriously puts so much dedication into her videos ❤
I was 10 years old in 1967. You knocked the fashions right out of the park. I am so jealous of your grandmother's dress, absolutely beautiful!
Obsessed with these history X fashion videos, they're SO well done!!
