So glad it's quieter. I have a friend who has the yellow one and at night it's so loud in the woods. Every movement is able to be heard. I went with REI brand for my pad, it's insulated and a high R value. I am a cold sleeper so can't do the uberlite one cause I'll sacrifice to much heat that I need. Great review though and comparison.

I like the kymit static V lite. Only 10-15 breathes which is awesome and an r-value of over 4. It's just over 19 oz but I don't mind the weight given its other benefits. I also got it for about $80 on sale so it is a way cheaper alternative (and it is 23 inches wide which is nice for side sleepers).

I continue to use my Exped Downmat 7, weighs in at a whopping 30 ounces but has a 5.9 R value and I'm a super cold sleeper. No regrets from me ever. Paid an arm and a leg for it about eight years ago and I adore it. Pain to pump up with the hand pump system, but for the warmth, it's worth it. Also, it's quiet, comfy and velvety to the touch.

I bought one of these last week and went out 5 days ago with my wife on a 3 day hike. I was delighted with the size/weight . My wife slept on it the first night and I wanted to scream when I heard it. The night was still and I am sure that a couple of other hikers about 150 yds away could easily hear it also. My wife is deaf at night without her hearing aids on so she could not hear it. I used it the second night and it was comfortable enough but I am thinking of getting something else. You can only hear the offending sound when you lay on it and move around. It does not crinkle but sounds almost like a roaring sound

Just purchased my NeoAir Xlite so I will have to wear this out first but, great review and I like what I see. Just can't see spending the extra $$ right now. Maybe in the future. The durability is a big question! I’ll be using mine for the 1st time mid July in CO. I wonder why they didn’t just remove the reflective material from the Xlite? Save an ounce or two maybe, resulting in a quieter pad with no durability lost!

I'm putting together a fastpacking kit for 2 day ultra running weekends, with 1-2 nights camping in the UK 3 seasons. I'm really struggling to decide between the Uberlite and Xlite. Is the smaller weight and pack size of the Uberlite really worth the big warmth trade off? As this seems to be the main difference between the two. Any input or suggestions welcome to try and help me decide, thank you.

I can only agree, that Thermarest Neoair Uberlite is worth all the money and the size, weight and comfort is simply outstanding. I am new to hiking but one thing that encourages me is "good stuff" and I do not compromise on either my tent and sleeping gear. Now I am looking for a new sleeping bag for 3 seasons in Europe, any recommendations?

How is it now after 3 years? Thinking to get one, not sure why people are afraid to puncture it, you place this inside a tent where is protected. I think the new ones come with a new valve which doesn't lose air when you stop pumping. R2 seems fine to me, i have a rectangular old thermarest which i think it has around R4 and i can sleep in the harshest winter with it.

I love my Uberlite. It’s so small and light. And comfortable. Sold my regular Xtherm. But that is because of the width. I honestly don’t understand how anyone can sleep on 20” wide pad. I went with the 25” x 77” and went from sleepless nights to decent sleeps. Will get another XTherm in wide/long for winter camping.

I backpack in the Sierra into October. An R value of 2 is inadequate even for a warm sleeper. Half my nights at high elevations are below freezing. Uber light might work if you aren’t using a quilt and if you have to add a z rest under it in cold conditions you are negating the weight savings. Therm is too warm except for winter. The xlite hits the sweet spot and is 4 ounces heavier than the Uber. It’s a no brainer. The crinkling sound is better in the new models and it goes away after about 20 nights of using it. I don’t sleep close enough to others to wake them up. My snoring is much worse than my pad!

Thanks for the preview :) I spent the weekend on my Uberlite this week and it was very quiet, seemed even quieter than in your video.. i'm a normal sleeper and it was 39 degrees and wet with a 30 degree quilt, I stayed toasty, never felt any cold from the ground at all...my biggest problem is it's pretty slippery and a bit tough to stay on, but nonetheless a great pad!

    • @sethbeiden1305
      @sethbeiden1305 5 лет назад +2

Thanks for the info. My favorite piece of my XLite is that the material is a bit tacky, so I stay on. Add the lower R Value and I think for the money and hassle I will just stick with one pad. I am loving shaving ounces, but if I end up slipping off (which has been a common issue on other pads) I'd rather have a heavier, warmer pad. Plus I am running the Large to get the 25" wide feature and its borderline priceless. Good sleep is hard to come by!

Bought one for my PCT hike in March 2019 it failed the first night out. Could never find the leak. Had to blow it up throughout the night. I use a ground cloth with my duplex, so yes I had good ground 𝐏rotection. Love the return policy with REI. Has therma rest solve the problem yet Bigfoot? I think 🤔 it was a defective valve & I’ve heard this from others on the trail as well.

I’m not sure. I have been a little removed on some of these things the last few months as I have had a lot going on in my personal life (getting married). But I have yet to have an issue with my own Uberlite in the 35-40 nights I spent on it this year. Sometimes I just call up the manufacturer (Therm-a-rest in this case) and speak to one of their customer reps to get answers on this sort of thing. If you’re thinking about trying another one, I would reach out to them first.

@@FollowBigfoot Temperature / R-Value you are going to be more than fine in May .. The only concern will be that you are visiting during the middle of the Haggis mating season and at that time they tend to look for soft platforms on which to erm... rest ...afterwords.. just remember to keep tent doors fully zipped, as they are not too fussy ... I am a fully qualified Haggis guide and hunter (being resident) if you need any advice just shout .. if you scream..its too late

Interesting product, I'm a bit concerned about the R value.
I use the SeatoSummit UltraLight Insulated
    - R=3.3
    - Weight= 350g for 128cm long, 480g for 183cm long
And the extra feature I love most is its 40g Ultra-Sil pump-sack which I also use as a stuff sack.
It only takes me 2 mouth blows to inflate the mat at it's maximum......30sec max

For some, this may not fit for their 3 season pad with a drop in rvalue from Xlite. Therm-a-Rest does make a pump sack that can accomplish the same feat as the STS. This pad will fit for folks that are minimalist and can stretch the rvalue or, use for their summer pad. This pad will probably sway some from using their 3/4 pad to convert to a full pad for minimal weight gain.

In a previous video I asked you about the X-Lite short. Well, I got out this weekend with it and I have to say it was ""NOT"" awesome. lol... It's getting returned to REI as soon as I have a chance. I'm going to get the Uberlite Large. Since it's only 12 ounces and huge at the same time its worth the four extra ounces. I just had a horrible sleep with a small I'm not even going to try to regular, it's still too narrow. I've been using a Therm-a Rest Trekker large for many years now and have always slept great on that. The Trekker just too heavy for the JMT. I'm a warm sleeper so I should be good. Thanks for the vid.

the 3 oz weight difference between the two pads is only the weight of a tennis ball.

Ive used a prolight plus for years. Its good but its way too big in pack space. I want an upgrade. But the cost is too much 😭😭😭😭

One BIG criteria of a blow-up pad is how fast & easy is it to deflate. Just getting all the air of should take a couple seconds without mechanical squeezing/flattening.and not an eternity. We all know that no one gets ALL the air out their Thermarest air pads, so they ALL take up more room in their pack than you showed in this video. I use an REI all-season Flash pad with reported R-value 5.2 when backpacking during the shoulder seasons at the snow line in the Sierra. It has a huge deflate port, but could be even faster if you put an extra deflate valve at the foot. It has a separate inflate valve. I use an air pump sack to fill it quickly, too. The REI pad is quiet and has some synthetic fiber insulation. Now the Uberlite could work for me if I added another 4oz pad (Gossamer Gear thinlight) and changed the valves. A two-pad setup could give one contingencies and the thinlight would protect the uberlight from some punctures, too.

Google it or watch my rvalue video, I talk about this. The method Therm-a-Rest uses will be the standardized method every company will need to use by 2020 so everyone is on the same playing field.

Pretty impressive for a big gear company to develop something that matches what some of these UL and cottage companies are doing. I haven’t seen on yet in person, just what I’ve read. It’s lighter than the revelation 30D with the upgraded 950 down. I’m looking at getting another 30 D quilt, this will be in the list I consider
