    Why isn't generation 4, person 10 affected..if the mother is affected, shouldn't the daughter also br affected since the trait is x-linked dominant?

    II-4 doesn't have a infected mother(I-2)? maybe

    • @aeniuan
      @aeniuan 9 лет назад +1

      no, cos II-4 is married with II-3, he doesn't belong to that rule, because he's parent aren't shown, he's only married into the family

    IV 4 and V 4 and 6 do not make sense based off his explanantion

    • @PurpMcSquirt
      @PurpMcSquirt 6 лет назад +5

      late but it's because affected mothers can have affected daughters. The rule states that affected sons have affected mothers and affected fathers will always have affected daughters, but it never says that affected mothers can't have affected daughters. The reasoning behind this specific wording is that affected fathers simply cannot have affected sons because the fathers give the 'y' chromosome and not the diseased 'x'. However, mothers have 2 'x' chromosomes and since this particular tree is dominant, she can give one of the diseased 'x' chromosomes to her daughter.
      The whole reasoning as to why affected sons must have affected mothers is that they can't get the affected 'x' from their father because they get the 'y' from their father, so the affected 'x' HAS to come from the mother. However, the affected daughter can get the affected 'x' from either mom or dad.
