Mind. Blown. The idea that I can plant snapdragons in the Fall for Spring blooms is just amazing. I'm so excited to get my copy of the book. I love the encouragement to not be afraid and just do it. Thank you. 😍💚😍
I learned the same thing about planting sunflowers early last year. I noticed that the reseeded plants were about 4-6 inches tall when I was just going out to plant seeds. This year I will start planting out in April instead of waiting until May!
Maybe a silly question but I’m in Orange County, CA zone 10a/b and sun tropical zone 23. Will my cool flowers begin to bloom in winter in my zone since we don’t have a winter? The lowest temperature we get in the dead of winter is 40° at night around 58° during the day. Our average winter temperature is 63°-68
Hello Lisa, I just received my Cool Flowers book and going through your video series. I just finished week 2 and have a couple of questions. I'm in zone 7B. I wanted to try planting some hardy annuals. Can I direct sow in the ground right now or does the seed have to be started indoors? I don't have much luck starting in trays (but I hope to learn).
Also, I'm loving the book and your videos. It was such a relief when you said you didn't have experience when you started. I am just watching a lot of videos and trying to learn to grow some things. Quarantine had allowed me the time to try some different things, but I'm lost most of the time and my thumbs have no green in sight!! 😊
@@lisaziegler8533 thank you for the link, I will check it out. I guess I should have waited and watched the rest of the series, some of that questions was answered in the following videos. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge, I am really enjoying watching and can't wait to see how it goes :)
I'm in zone 6a. I want to plant bachelor buttons, dara, bells of ireland and larkspur this year. Should I start them indoors and transplant them outside or direct seed them? I know you said you don't like to direct seed in the spring, but do I have time to start transplants and still get blooms? My last frost date is May 3rd.
Tina all you mentioned are best direst seeded in the garden in fall for your zone. They are difficult to start indoors because of cool temperature needs to sprout. You can try direct sowing now and see how it works-I would mark the calendar now for your fall planting dates.
I'm in zone 5, does this mean I can put snapdragon seeds in the ground in the fall?! I believe I have had snaps planted before that did not come back the next spring.

Excellent and specific tips. So helpful.
Excellent specific and helpful
I purchased and read your book but still have so many questions I'm not sure where to start, I'm hoping to figure it out with your videos
If you are fall planting cool season flowers, do you start on a seed mat and then transplant into the fall temperature soil?

@@lisaziegler8533 Ok. I will do that! Thank you!
How old should your transplants be before you plant them out?
It is easier to go by size- I look for 3-5" plants.

Hi Lisa. Snapdragons do best started indoors from seed and plant outdoors as a transplant. You can fall and very early spring plant snaps in zone 5.
