Daimler steered the front leaf spring axle by means of a chain. The driver sat up front in the driver's seat like a carriage. The engine was in the rear of the vehicle. Fuel consumption was approximately six liters of gasoline per 100 kilometers.
The front axle is also called a rigid axle to distinguish it from the independent suspensions that have replaced it in modern automobiles.
