I purchased a frame from my local dealer in 98 and assembled a bike and have been riding it ever since. My frame is a lighter blue in color but has kept the finish and color over the years. Has been used and abused and well maintained. GREAT BIKE!
Nice work! I totally remember when these came out. The ball burnished came with the yellow Judy fork, if I recall. This one, the super cool blue, was the dream XC bike! Couldn’t tell at first from the fading but this is super cool to see. Thanks for doing this!
Just as a tip if you don't know ... on those older Rock Shox the modern RST MCU elastomers work realy well ! Gread job on the bike it looks realy amazing !
Absolutely awesome. Pity about getting it re-anodised. I picked up a GT Karakoram, full DEORE LX group set but the shifters were destroyed internally. It was only $20 , but like yourself finding these parts on e-bay or the like is almost impossible and when they do appear the prices are highway robbery! I decided to go with a full grit blasting and repaint of the Tange 4130 steel frame.
I can confirm the strange mix of early 90s parts on a 94 frame.. the zaskar le was £478 for the bare frame that year and that was the plain ball burnished one... so we had to cut costs for our initial build and recycle a few parts..lovely refurb dude
I just bought a like new 2006-2007 GT Zaskar Expert 26" wheels, Rock Shox Recon 327 forks, Deore components. Black gloss paint with Red pin stripping. If Batman rode a bike, it would be this bike. It's wicked light and really fun to ride.
I just picked one up - it’s the same exact frame as yours, exact same decals (competition series etc) and everything. But it’s ano purple! Has mismatched xt/xtr bits
Had one of these in black in the mid 90s. Had normal forks no suspension. Brakes were Magura HS22, Middleburn crank then I think the rest of the groupset was XT. Can't remember the wheels exactly but think they were Mavic. Know it's what they were designed for but was a fast bike.
Wow, ive got an early 90`s Zaskar LE in the shed, havent rode it for about 7 years. I`m 59, used it to ride back and forth work about 8 miles each way back in the late 90`s, not every day, too unfit for that lol....Was considering adding a rear wheel electric hub and making a good ebike out of it. Might have changed my mind now. Are these collectors bikes now? Mine is in silver with yellow / red zalker decals, or no colour, just aluminium.
I'd go with a M770 and M772 Shimano XT groupset, Thomson 7000 series aluminum Elite stem and post🤘🤘. And a nice 7075 handlebar; say a TITEC H👹llbent riser bar😁🤘🤘
I love my 1998 GT Zaskar. I also have a modern gravel bike, but the Zaskar is just the sweet spot for everything bumpy and jumpy.
Great build! I still have my 97 Zaskar in the basement. I'll stop and stare at it every once in a while. Best bike GT ever made!
The fact that 1994 is now considered vintage makes me feel old af
Me too mate 😭
People born in 2006 are adults now.
finally someone who didin't mutilate bike with mounting stupid 1 by train but did proper restauration
good work!
Great video, you’ve got a new subscriber!
Bike looks good in its original faded blue.
Had the same experience with a 1991 Trek 2300 composite, one of the first (partly) Carbon Bikes!
Childhood dream, fulfilled decades later *GG*

The red Judy’s went with the red anodized cranks. Awesome find . Nice to see how popular the GT Zasker frames still are.
That came out GREAT. As you've already said, it's so good that you did not get it re-anodized.
Beautiful restoration! Thank you for sharing
Nice one 😁👍👌
This is sick!! Great find dude, it looks awesome and the fork change looks heaps better.
Great work, 👍
Wow. It looks like something in a magazine from the ‘90s. Outstanding
Thanks.🙏 turned out really well
Mate that is a peach of a bike 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻. Definitely no need for the re-anodising. It looks brilliant.
Thanks Sam. Yeah I’m glad I didn’t in the end

That’s a nice bike mate brings back some memories 👍
This is one of the bikes that i really admire ♥️♥️♥️
Love these vintage GT’s !
A GT Zasker is on my list of wants 😊 love them
The bike is very beautiful. I have one like it here in Brazil. Congratulations.

I have a 1991 Zaskar that I built with XT parts and a Manitou fork. It still looks new.

Don’t think the crank would look nice enough for the bike…but it looks awesome. So glad you didn’t re-anodize it!! 🎉

Top work Sir! Hopefully I'll find one at reasonable price soon.
Awesome Job
I bought this exact bike in 94 still have but it is faded badly. Mine came with full XT components and Mavic rims.
Mint! Forever Frame. 👍
Please clamp onto the seatpost if you can you might bend the frame. Cool bike

Yes. Arguably the most collectible of all the GT retro bikes and worth good money if original.
I just got a 1990 Mongoose Switchback from a coworker. Totally original except for the tires. Best part is I paid nothing for it

Needs Onza bar ends 😁
very nice
I love GT's and this one is bike porn. I have 5 GT's (2 need to be built up), but I really want a Zaskar and pimp it out.
Nice
Awesome build 🤩 looks great with the XT and Judy XC’s
What grease did you use to rebuild the DH’s?
Thanks. I used SLICKOLEUM. ✌🏼
I’ve got the GT Zaskar LE that was made for Scott Sharples. It was custom made to be a 16.5” frame
Wow that’s an awesome collector piece 👌
