I really admire Pierre’s fountain pen artistry. I’ve come to admire them more than pens 2-3 times the cost.

Nice review as usual Doc… unusual names quite the conversation starter. Price… the man is making these individually and limited.
You have to pay for that and what is precious to one isn’t to another. A friend of mine just paid £6000 for a very nice used shot gun, I told him he’s insane…he said, and your paying how much for your transceiver ??? ( radio ham ) touché… so you don’t mind the price. It’s a lovely pen well out of being ordinary. Thanks again Doc, your A C E. 😉 💙

The Blue/Cream ("Sodalite") Dumka will be released June 24.
The Hot Pink and Lavender ("Lepidolite") Dumka will be released later.

I really really like the Daedalus 3.2 model. You offer that with a JoWo nib instead of a zebra G, and also an ebonite feed instead of plastic?

@@williamcatalano1762 That's a dynamite model. I think I'll redo it in that beige ripple? Yes, you can select a Jowo nib at the time of purchase.

The “Sodalite” is really gorgeous. Can’t wait for its release in June. With that information, I’ll keep checking the website this coming month.

Great to hear that intro again. It's been a while for some reason. Lots to catch up on.
I have three Desiderata pens and always one inked, I adore them for their essential ability to be excellent pens to use firstly, lovely to feel and look at secondly, and for what they represent: The work of someone who translates his designs into wonderful objects with thought, and with no compromise to the fact that they are fundamentally meant to be used.
I think the reason I only really buy old and vintage pens now is because so many modern pen companies can lose sight of what they are really making and I'm a bit over that. I have a Conid, it's a great pen, also a contemporary Montblanc and Graf, they are great pens too but I love German and British pens of the 50s and 60s, and I find the Soubriquet, for example as I have two, is among the very few new pen designs I've tried that manages to carry off the functional excellence with design elegance of the best oldies and not somehow be compromised.
I'll keep my 149, and M1000, and Graf Intuition, and my Conid and Auroras and modern Onoto but I don't need more because there is a new colour being released. The DUMKA however I have not used, and I believe Pierre made it for a reason and I feel I want to find out about that so I plan to get one if I can.

I bought one of these at a pen show and it is probably my only regretted pen purchase. The threading goes past the cap where it ends, so you have exposed threading after your cap is sealed. The clip is also kind of flimsy (moves laterally easily) and does not feel like it belongs on a $300+ pen. I also have reached out to him multiple times over the last several months asking if I could buy a replacement collar to fit a Zebra nib into the pen and he never responds. Wish I never bothered with it. Side note - I love your handwriting

Whilst I can certainly appreciate speedy uncapping, I do worry about if the cap seals well enough.
What use rapid access if the nib is dry and takes time to start?

Thanks for the comprehensive review. Definitely a pen I would purchase when I have the money available. Also, it sounds to me that it has a custom ground AND individually tuned nib!

"Dumka" is a type of ballad from Ukraine, usually a long, multiversed story about emotions of missing some person or home. I hope your pens are not being missed by someone else... :)
You could have put in the background "Dumka for voice and piano" by F. Chopin.

I noticed the pen doesn’t have a window to see the ink level. Surprised you didn’t comment on it. Ranga makes equally good pens at much affordable prices. While I appreciate the pens being made in the USA, I don’t see how you can justify paying $300+ for this pen.

The pen you reviewed is beautiful, the only problem for me is the piston filler. I just don’t like that filling system. Takes too long to clean. Thanks, I love your reviews

Consider a Pump Piston® Soubriquet! Those can fill and drain in seconds.

My nibs are getting scratchy, I’m afraid I’ve been too heavy handed in my penmanship. That aside, what’s the best triage for smooth nib restoration, and how does one make dry delivery…a bit wetter? Thanks for entertaining this totally off topic inquiry.

Wasn't all that impressed with my Desiderata, ended up chucking it out. And that was before the prices were jacked up. What I see now is no different than what companies like Ranga can produce at a fraction of the cost. YMMV of course.

Many things done right. 50$ more that Opera Elements at launch. About 100$ more that a Peerless 125 on sale at LCDC. Secondary market, your 14k options start at about 10-15$. At least get some god damn ebonite feeds. 😮‍💨
