My means of convincing my group to play things that aren't D&D was just gushing about all the cool stuff of whatever random rpg I was reading that week.
I did it like this: "I want to run *insert new game here* if you want to keep playing D&D then someone else has to DM" then the silence of no one volunteering to take over as DM was my answer
I got my current table thanks to cultural osmosis. The Edgerunners show was just at its peak and told some friends about the game and me owning it, and that's how we got into a three year Cyberpunk 2020 campaign.
The Pitch is the key bit. Your thirty seconds to sell the concept. It really helps to have a novel/comic/tv series/movie that you know your crew have seen and enjoyed that you can refer them to.
@@KryptykPhysh horror stories on my end trying to get players to play TV show based games without knowing the show. Some how I had 4 players in a Firefly RPG one shot who never saw Firefly

Lol! I tried that, but it was very playing Chicken with my players.
I'm lucky to know a lot of non-D&D players. I'm always wondering how to get a group together for the hard-to-sell weird stuff, like Wraith or Nobilis.

@@AwkwardGMCorbin OK, *that's* an achievement. 😄
@@KryptykPhysh I remember getting to the end of it asking "Wait none of you have seen it?" And the response was "This is a TV show?"
I love your passion for gaming, narrative systems and encouraging players. Well done!
@@JGraylion thank you!!!
