Thank you for the very interesting review! I did not know that these cheap razors existed and now I will also order one. Apart from bad steel, it could also be that the edge has been "burnt" by the machine sharpening at the factory and that you are making a bevel on fatigued steel. Cutting part of the edge off straight into the stone and giving it a third sharpening could perhaps reveal better steel.
Hi, Thanks for your support 👍 It could be indeed a bad control of the temperature when forging indeed but after recrewting the bevel twice, I won't do it again... But you might be correct, it could "maybe" be solved with a third attempt.
You are of course right, there are a few good gold dollars, ive tried a few ( probably over a dozen ) but apart from learning purposes, i wouldn't shave with them , its like polishing a turd 😂 . You make wonderful informed videos ❤. (How could you put a crappy gold dollor on a kanayama strop , if the horrible edge failed ,as it will ! You'll scratch that priceless strop 😂)
It's unfortunately very variable, depending on the beard type, usage, maintenance, etc... But I'd say it should easily last 30-50 shaves without impacting shaving comfort.

It would be cool to show some micrographs of the edge after 1 shave.
Cool still exciting to watch great job
Thx Bruno 🙏

@@FroggyShave 🤣😅
Hi. It shaves nice and smooth. Wow sounds good 👍 thank you for the video. Happy pre Friday
Happy pre-Friday too ,😄
I cut into my strop😢 is there something I can do to restore the cut? Kind regards, Mathew
If it's a very light cut, you can use high grit sandpaper.
If it's deep, unfortunately I don't know any method to fix it. 😔
Amazing video!
Can you let me know the Jnat & nagura you use please?
Thanks a lot for the support!
JNAT: Nakayama LV5++
Naguras:
- Asano Nagura : tenjyou, mejiro, koma
- Tomo naguras: in this video Nakayama asagii
@@FroggyShave many thanks for the response! I am just getting into jnats; I have a lot of European stones though.
@@Michael.Nelson I didn't use much European ones besides LaLune and Black Shadow, what do you usually use?
@@FroggyShave I have couple of La Lune stones; one of them is a large beast! Along with a goto of Belgian Coticule & Charnley Forest.
What is your expectation of a good steel razor? How many shaves? What maintenance steps?
It's unfortunately very variable, depending on the beard type, usage, maintenance, etc...

@@FroggyShave Thanks for your thoughts. I was curious of a direct comparison from the same person using both.
Hello mr. Froggy, I have a question. Can you already shave your beard without stropping the razor after honing it? kind regards, Mathew
Hi Matt,
Technically you can but it's not very pleasant...
It's definitely more pleasant after the strop 😅
@@FroggyShave I ordered a strop, can you recommend a stroppingpaste you put on yours?
@@mathewfromthemountains7157 definitely not lol 😆
For the reason that I don't use why paste on my strop.
When using JNAT stones, you don't need paste.
hello mr.froggy, what microscope would you recommand?
Hi mate,
I wouldn't know the more recent ones but got this one free years ago and quite happy with it:
