My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She's Sorry is the first Backman book I read and still stays my favourite. I had a very close relationship with my late grandma and this book is like a memoir I have never written. The Grandma can't get more different than my grandma, but the feelings and thoughts Backman writes about are just so pure and hit close to home. I cried my eyes out, and I know I will cry every time I pick this book up for a reread in the future. I also LOVED Beartown series and Anxious people! Am on a waiting list in my library to get Ove next! CAnt wait

Great Commentary. I love his books. Read A Man Called Ove first and loved. Beartown is a much deeper and heavier book, so very different, but also great. I can’t wait to the last book, The Winners comes out. Anxious People, different, too, but loved that one. I just finished up My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell you She’s Sorry. Hard to rank them, as it depends the mood I’m in as each covers different material. I still haven’t read Britt-Marie. So, A Book Called Ove, Anxious People, and Beartown top 3.

I hadn't heard the title of the 3rd book yet! For a while they were going with the title "Those Who Run Towards Fire" but I think Backman has enough long titles for his books so I'm happy with a shorter one! lol

I was so excited to find out if Fredrik wrote any other books and found your site! I love your commentary and the way you lay it out. Its going to be hard to beat A Man Called Ove. Ooh I love these kind of character focused stories, so I definitely need to give Fredrik Backman's books another go. I had them out of the library at the beginning of the year but couldn't quite get into them at the time, but more than likely that was more a me issue than the books haha!

Yeah, I definitely think he has a unique style that can be weird at first. It took me a bit to get into Ove (the first I read by him) even though it ended up being one of my favorites. And then I think since I was used to the style, I never had that hard of a time getting into his others

Hello. I have only just started reading properly ( and im 56 haha!) But have set a target of 52 books in 2021. Im on book 15 and I have read A man called Ove, which I loved. Soon after, I watched the film. I then read my grandmother sends her regards..as you say different title in the UK. It was a good story but i wondered how much of it was fantasy and maybe science fiction, then i settled for the girl just taking her nannies stories literally. I agree she was way beyond her year in every other way. I also read deal of a lifetime, which was clever. I found my grandmother.. hardest to follow but Im going for Britt Marie was here next, after watching your review. Thankyou ..

Beartown was the first Backman book I read. Simply because it got so much buzz when it came out. I was hooked to that one from the first page and found it very difficult to put down. I read the whole thing in a couple days which is really fast, for me. Great book with excellent writing.
I have yet to read the second two in the Beartown trilogy but have heard from a lot of people that they're both very good. They also have incredibly high reader reception on Goodreads and Amazon so that's promising.
I just started reading And Every Morning... and can already tell it's going to be very emotional and moving. I'm really looking forward to finishing it.
I haven't read A Man Called Ove but do own a copy of it. I'll definitely be reading it sometime soon.
    Great video, by the way.

I’ve read some Backman recently and my top-list is
    1. Beartown. All this rough aesthetics, some unexpectedly familiar vibes (cause I’m Russian and I was shocked how similar these vibes are) and everything..
    2. Owe (mind blowing for me. first look on Backman)
    3. Anxious people (adorable and sweeet!)
    4. Sequels of Beartown
    5. My grandmother asked to sorry (I couldn’t read it till the end and it was too hard for me to read how they feed this dog..)
    Thank you for video!

I'm Swedish and for a long time I didn't want anything to do with Backman and his Ove novel, because everyone was talking about it. Parents loved it, grandmothers loved it. Everyone loved it. I thought reading it would be like that bland Saturday entertainment show on our state television, you know the one that everyone thought was fine and okey (that is "not offensive and low key) but was hard to love and wouldn't stir up any emotions. Then I bought "Every day" at a second hand shop, without knowing it was the same writer, and loving it of course. After that I read all of his novels and short stories, and scrolled through his entire blogg site. Long story short. Like all his books. But utterly loved Grandmother (Min mormor hälsar och säger förlåt). What I like most in his style of writing is the way he changes topics, by presenting a definition and the applying it on a character (maybe the character has that quality or he/she is the opposite of that. In my opinion, that is a Backman writing trademark.
    Least favorite: Anxious people.

Can someone explain the love for A Man Called Ove?
I mean, it was an easy read and not bad by any means. It just feels so generic, with all (and I mean ALL) the typical grumpy old man tropes. Nothing felt soecial at all by the book. Grumpy old man (not that old) who learns to change his ways late in life.
Wife died, who was the only person who "understood" him. That's been done to death, right?
Yes, I fully realize I now sound like a grumpy old man. Maybe the beauty of the writing style is lost in translation for me or something.

Recently I found the book "Beartown" in a recycle bin during a rainstorm, luckily it did not get wet and then I noticed the mention of it's author having written "A Man Called Ove" and was very intrigued.
