I just closed my accounts at TD Bank not happy with the service there. Honestly I worked in banks and credit unions. I personally prefer a credit union over a bank. Much better service at a credit union no issues taking out money.

This wave is mostly due to mobile/online banking

The prior wave of closures was due to ATMs but that trend ended a *long time ago*
I was going to buy a bank branch build to lease back to them but I am glad I didn't once I figured out the mobile banking trend was going to decimate physical bank branches.
Bankers are re-thinking their business.
Like, why are traditional banks needed anymore?
There are many other types of non-bank entities who have assumed the roles of banks.
And keeping a checking account is now a significant cost center to the banks
Especially without cheap retail deposits to go along with this service.
I just use banks for transaction services, and keep enough money in there that they don't charge me fees.
But I know I am suffering an opportunity cost.

I almost opened an account at PNC several months ago (as I have their credit card), but I decided not to. I (now) only have a checking account at US Bank now
(with only several thousand dollars) and they rate very high, with a lot of liquidity. I closed my other 6 bank accounts.

I use US Bank here in East Central Indiana. When they closed my local branch 2 years ago, I was told they were going to on-line banking exclusively. Out of 5 branches within 30 miles of me, one remains, and is only staffed by 2 employees.
Change banks and go to a credit union

credit unions are solid its owned by locals. I dont know where you from always use credit union no matter what if they crash the whole planet crashes, and buy CD's if got extra money your not gonna get rich fast but you can put some change in pocket book
Credit unions are safer but still inter connected in the big bank matrix. I dont really trust them either.

No. We do cash deposits regularly. You can't do that without a branch. Just ask any business... you can't do a cash drop, or get cash for drawer without a local bank.
And it's nice to know the people with whom you bank.

Maybe read up on what the banks did to peoples money in Cyprus Greece awhile back. Theres your answer and more. In fact it could be much worse. The reality is they can take any amount of your money at anytime. Having money in the bank makes you an unsecured creditor to the bank. Thats why people recommend just having enough in the banks to pay upcoming bills. Nothing more. Not financial advice but thats basically whats going on. I have put most of mine into gold and silver. Its not even safe as cash. Cash will be worth nothing.

You have to wrap your mind around the fact that once you deposit your money into a bank, you have just handed your money over willingly to said bank. You do not own that money any longer. Think I'm crazy. Go try to get 5000.00 dollars out of the bank.

PNC Never charges overdraft fees even when I forget to make a deposit they pay it as long as it’s within 24 hours I make the deposit I don’t know what the hell you’re complaining about😂😂

My PNC branch closed last year due to automation. The teller I talked to said that it was due to the app and the branches will be doing away with in person tellers and transitioning to virtual tellers at ATM machines. I'm looking to change banks now.

I think this is the consolidation happening. The reason I say that is because 5 years ago, there were no Chase banks in the St. Louis metro because BOA was the big dog in the metro. Now Chase branches are popping up all over the place and BOA branches are closing here. There will still be BOA branches, but now there are also Chase branches.

I have no direct evidence. But am aware that it happened in Lebanon and a woman robbed her own money, from her own account from her bank branch. Not true. They closed 41 locations with plans to build 18 new locations. Profitable good performing stores are unaffected. The parent company also closed Carrabas, Bonefish and Fleming's locations.
