Getting back in the groove! I have a few recipe boxes from my mom. I made Better Homes and Gardens heritage cookbooks for my daughter-in-laws for Christmas.
Loved it! It's so fun going along with you. I'm glad you're happy with your finds. And that you got to pet a pup. You stay safe and well. I love you. ❤️😘💞💞💞🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻✌️👶
Yay the flea market season is open 😊 poor guy hardly got the back of his trailer open and it was like bees around a honeypot 😊 OMG Rhubarb Berry Crumble, that sounds so delicious 😊 lovely to see Blue the dog too ❤ Hope you have a successful season Renee 😊
I love the color of the ashtray. I don't know if its slag glass or opaline or something else entirely, but the color is pretty. The elephant & wood carving are cool too. Great finds at the flea!
I absolutely love the vintage recipes. I’m not a big cook, but when I do, it almost always from a recipe. Unless it’s my sauce..that’s in my head from birth lol. 💜
looked like fun, and you got to pet a dog, buy a few items, and see a couple of muscle men items!😮 haha...good to see your Moose army uniform again....... happy eclipse day!
If you are the Tote Man, not only do they not make you unpack, they help unload the van. Gotta love it! 13:13 Figa (fee-ga) Italian good luck charm. The thumb in that position is also the "middle finger" in other cultures. Glad to see the Rescue of the Recipe Cards. I snag handwritten recipe boxes whenever I find them, especially those from Kosher households. People grab them off of me. (LOL)
Love going to the flea market with you. Your excitement is about the same as when i tell the grandkids I'm taking them to Chucky Cheese. Great video Renee, love you and stay safe!!
Great opening of the 2024 flea market season starring of course the one and only Mr. Tote Man himself. 👍It´s always funny to watch the flashlight brigade at work, over here the markets open regularly at 6 am. And you made some pretty nice finds, my personal favorite was the wooden recipe box. By the way, Renée: did you notice the recent earthquake in the NY/ NJ area ?! Just curious. Quite warm and sunny in our region right now, but it´s getting colder again during the forthcoming days. Have a good time, and see you on the next one ! 🖐Greets from GER, U.
This market has shifted to a little later market, with the majority of the sellers coming in/setting up a bit closer to daybreak and after. Now the Leesport flea market, we get there around 6am and most of the reserved spot sellers are all set up. I've heard some start setting up at 3am or earlier! They need some lanterns for that! I did feel the earthquake on Friday. Like the Elvis song, all shook up! My place shook and at first I thought the furnace was going to explode there was such a shaking and a loud rumble. We made it through that & also through the solar eclipse here today. Though only at 90some percent totality and some cloud coverage, it was still pretty neat to see! (Picked up your package today by the way, an early thank you!)
@@PaperandMoose Wow, the only earthquake I "survived" was a very slight one in Beijing, China. No solar eclipse so far over here, this one was a privilege for Americans. 😁
Enjoy your video the tarot cards always have 78 in the deck. If its a beginners, they have 22 in some. Thats a great deck of vintage type. Always look forward to your videos have a great week.
Dang!!!! Do people know Flea Market etiquette?!?!?! They shouldn't have started digging in the same bin as you! You are a better woman than I am Renee I would have HAD to say something 😉
When the box was being pulled away, that was Cast Iron Kev being funny (you can hear me laugh when I realized it was him). As for the other hands going in the box, I guess since I wasn’t crouched right over it or in the act of digging, it was seen as fair game. Now I would wait until a person wasn’t at that box anymore to put my hand in. I’ve been politely asked by other shoppers if I had interest in a certain item I pushed aside in a box, I have no issue with that at all.
Hello Renee. I loved the Christmas cards, giving them out for Christmas would be fun . My thoughts were if my mom and grandma was alive I’d send them one . 😅😅. Fun to see you digging through the tote man’s stuff again. Makes me feel like spring will finally get here. So I asked Taco about the earthquake and he said he was out doing yard work and didn’t notice it. But I read you did in the comments, how was that? I guess Illinois has had a few in spots but not really strong ones. Take care. 🕵🏼♀️🕵🏼♀️🕵🏼♀️🕵🏼♀️🕵🏼♀️🕵🏼♀️🫖☕️🫖☕️🫖☕️🥰🥰🥰💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
That would have been funny to send the Christmas cards out as my holiday cards, I didn’t think of that 😆 Experiencing the earthquake, though on the small magnitude scale compared to what other places receive, was something! Everything was shaking & there was a loud rumble noise. I didn’t feel the aftershock though, so glad I missed out on that one!
I like the hand, probably an Italian symbolic talisman for health or good fortune, I have seen them in red coral. Glad you found some old photos to save.
I love watching Toteman treasure hunts. Plus the variety of goods. New season seems to be starting off brilliantly. Our delight seeing the video from us in Cali .
Flea markets shouldn’t start before the sun is up. I’m glad to see you made it through the great New Jersey earthquake. We barely felt it at all in the southern part of the state.
@@shannon_w. Unlike the 2012 quake, where my house actually swayed back and forth for awhile, I just felt a strong rumble for about 5-6 seconds this time.
The hand is called a mano figa , Italian for Hand Fig, fig is the slang for female genitalia.( !) supposed to protect against the evil eye which won’t be able to look at it or person wearing it and perhaps maybe bring good luck. I think some gamblers wear them. I’m glad your flea market is ready to go, is exciting thinking about all the good stuff you are likely to find. I went to my Saturday flea market and it was tremendous, bought very good, actually had to go to the ATM to re-up! My regular Mexican seller as always had stuff for me, then a couple others did too mostly reloading stuff and knives Kind of funny but probably the best thing I got an antique 1800s hand painted tole tin domed box the vender just gave to me . I asked the price and he told me to just dump it out ( had screwdriver bits in it) and take it. Made me very happy. I did give him a painted ostrich egg last week
I think the hand thing is the Portuguese good luck charm, not sure though. The old recipes are a great find, I have my Moms and Grandmothers from the 30’s and forty’s. The cookie recipes are the best.
Washed up flotsam-like and almost empty-handed, back at the tote man. Still, some good stuff was snagged. The asparagus box was my favourite. Packed full of recipes, or, put them somewhere else and store your asparagus in the box! V nice. Love asparagus ( steamed with salmon)😊
I don't think you can resell those recipes until you have made each and can vouch for them. Liked the photos - hopefully some information on those postcards can lead you to something about the mother & kids (did you used to be able to get postcards made from snapshots?). The sailor may remain anonymous unless the writing was lighter than I could see. Save your ash tray for a "Mad Men" party - I think I got second-hand smoke exposure just from watching that show. Glad it was a good time and the TM showed up. I'm off to watch the eclipse between calls. Enjoy!
Lots of photos were printed on postcard paper back in the day. It was available and cheap, and also fun because you could mail a family member your picture for a penny. During WWI they printed induction photos on postcard paper because they could get it.
How did the eclipse go for you? Clear skies here until about an hour before "totality" and the clouds rolled in. Thankfully, somehow, a little clearing happened when we reached the maximum totality percentage for our area. Despite the clouds it was something to see the moon shift little by little over the sun. I don't remember the 2017 eclipse that occurred in this area, so glad that I was able to see this one. Sure makes one realize that space is so big & here we are on this "little" Earth. One recipe a day for how many days... maybe by the end of the year I could make everything! My cooking/baking isn't the best, but good thing for me is that the recipe fits on one card so it can't be that complicated :0)
@@PaperandMoose Pretty clear skies - some high thin clouds. I have a telescope with a solar filter so I could watch it directly and draw it about every 15-30 mins (for fun - I don’t think today or in 2017 I got the relative motion of the sun and the moon quite right). Got some great pics from friends around the country. We only had about 80% coverage - no corona or “diamond ring.” It was a fun afternoon though. Sorry about the clouds your way. Your Mom didn’t end up looking straight into the sun after all, did she? I came across an old set of glass eyes the other day - can send them if needed :).
