You must have a old old style nut. My Allen wrench fits in one hole to remove the nut. Send email address and I’ll send you pictures of it. That’s how they are shipped to Idaho. Corded grinders are the same also.
Ok I went out to the shop and put it on the workbench and got my flashlight. OMG your so correct and I did not see it until I looked real close. LOL I posted it on my instagram and mentioned you for helping me. Thanks Steve that was awesome of you for taking the time and helping me figure out the allen wrench mystery.
Hello Steve. The Allen key is used to tighten up the disk instead of using the usual grinder tool/wrench. Insert the Allen key in one hole and hold the locking switch and tighten or loosen the disk. Thanks for your review. Just bought this grinder after watching you. Thanks again
I am looking at buying this grinder. I already have several other DeWalt tools that use the 20v battery. Thanks for the real world tests and the feedback! Keep it up!
I was wondering why mine didn't come with a pin wrench either. I thought they were circles, as well. Not hex holes. I bought mine since it was cheap for Black Friday. Good review.
Your review made me buy this grinder !!! Thank you for your honest review. I bought this grinder second hand as I have 12 bolts to chop off a trailer frame and I didn’t want to be paying for a brand new brushless grinder because I honestly don’t think I will need to use it much or ever again but handy to have and I didn’t want to buy a corded one. The last year I have bought a few brushless cordless tools but as you know once you have a couple of batteries then it’s easier to buy the bare tools. I have a knockoff 6ah battery the two “compact” 3ah batteries with 21700 cells and a 2ah battery. I now own a 894 impact wrench, compact reciprocating saw, hammer drill and the air compressor and next week angle grinder will be delivered. And I can see me buying the oscillating multi tool …. Never thought I would have a power tool collection and what a difference they have made, makes tasks so much easier and safer without a cord dangling. Thanks again fella 😊.
Just bought it after watching a part of your video. I also have the saw and it's great. If the grinder is equal to that, then I'm sure it'll be great also. Thanks.
Love reading the comments, learn so many safety tips. I'm new to owning several power tools and I'm finding out that I've been very lucky to not have gotten myself hurt.
I have the milwaukee brushless one and its a beast. Saved my bacon. So many times. Its a must have tool! ...oh,the Allen wrench is so you can steal the disks off your old grinders 👍😁
Glad I saw the video. I got stumped on the Allen wrench dilemma too. Read the manual 3 times. Looked at the box. Dumbfounded. The comments in your post saved the day.
Great review! I bought the Dewalt corded DWE402W (4½", 11amp) grinder last Summer and it's been great - if I'm working near an outlet. I'm in the middle of replacing 40 year old cedar fence posts with metal T-posts on a 10 acre lot and REALLY need a cordless grinder to cut off some posts that bottomed out on rock. I was looking at the 412B the other day, they're $129 at Lowe's now, just wasn't sure if it had enough power for the job. Think I'll pick one up in the next few days, you're review was just what I needed to know.
If you are watching this and plan to use the grinder a lot you might want to spend a bit more and get one of the XR series Dewalt grinders that has the brushless motors and a brake for rapidly stopping the blade after you release the trigger.
You seem to be agrinding kind o person: how do I know what discs fit? It only goes 8k and it's a type 27. It's the one in this video but nothing seems to fit and I've never really used one so I don't know how to assess what will fit and won't.
The allen wrench is instead of. If you look on the black thingy that holds the disc on, 2 of them are now allen wrench holes and 2 are your kindo wrench hole. That's the only thing I understand about this grinder. Lemme know how to figure out which wheels/blades fit on that particular model because I can't find any or I don't understand the numbers I need!
Tell me what discs it uses, please, because every one I buy doesn't fit THAT model. Do you have a video on that? Matching the pad/blade to your model based on whatever numbers it is that I need (because I apparently I do not understand it)? There seems to be a type 1 and type 27. The rotation speed is important too from what I've read. So, I find it very confusing as all the stuff I bought so far, I've had to return. I know it's user error but user can't figure out the info!
I'm not an expert, but I believe the type 1 blades are flat and used for cut-offs, and type 27 are sunk in the center and used for grinding. It does matter on at least some DeWalt grinders as they require different flanges to hold the different blade types in place. There is also a type 1 guard that covers 1/2 the blade on the top and bottom. I'm surprised this grinder doesn't have a type 1 guard as it's advertised as a cut-off grinder. I'd like to see how this grinder does with concrete, bricks, and mortar. This video says that a type 1 cut-off blade can be mounted by turning the top flange so the recessed edge is toward the blade to hold it tightly in place: ruclips.net/video/AMue0p1Gjqo/видео.html
I usually only buy XR series from DeWalt. However, I only have 1 functioning arm, so I'm hesitant of angle grinders. This has a great handle it seems though. Anyone think this might be a safer option for cutting metal (angle iron, bolts etc) than the other options out there, for my disability? Using rotary tools takes forever. Thanks!
I've never had any luck with the battery powered grinders I have a 30 year old Makita myself and I have a newer one but maybe it's time to try the battery ones again
Thanks for the comments about the allen wrench. I've had this grinder for almost a year now. I went to change the disk and figured I lost the tool and kept pushing aside this allen in my drawer while looking all over for what is not there. After all that, now I won't forget what that allen is actually for.

I'm just guessing that you have the 20 volt-2 amp hr batteries which in my opinion are good for light duty work. Correction after reading Steve's post, Dewalt makes 20 volt batteries from the 1.5 amp hr - 6 amp hr. I did not know that as the smallest rating that came with the tools i own was 2 amp hr.
Steve, what are the amp hours on your DeWalt 20v batteries? I bought the 18-20V adapter kit with the charger and the 2 batteries are 1.5Ah and I am wondering how long they will last on a charge....Cheers
Larry I have 2 - 1.5 amps and two 5 amps . The 5 amps are heavy so I use the smaller ones and they do what I need for the most part as I'm not using them constantly. They dont have the charge indicator on them so its hard to judge but I charge them up after about one hours use.
From Amazon I bought DEWALT 20V MAX* ANGLE GRINDER DCG412B, the motor gets hot after 5 minuets at continuous operation, then the motor stop operate until it cools down
I bought one and there was no wrench in the box and no instructions (user manual). Does it matter if you put the blade label up or label down? This is my first grinder. Thanks.
Bonjour du Québec, j'espère que vous allez bien . I have a question. ...I have this grinder .. . I bought this in a kit and I wonder if in your box you had others bushing for thinner or differents types of blades ?. I have only the nut that hold the blades and I reverse the nut for thinner blade. It work well but not sure it is the proper way.

I do wish dewalt can make a new version of this model disk grinder with a brushless motor and disk break. I do like the handle and trigger on this model then the new paddle version . Only the UK has the new model disk grinder with the side switch. I do prefer that style way better then the paddle style. If you get a chance use the new 6.0ah (21700) or new compact 4.0ah (21700) cell batteries. Runs the tool longer and cooler. Thanks for the video

Great review Steve. Can’t say I’ve had much luck with Dewalt grinders but it seems they come a long ways. I do love my cordless tools. Can’t afford them many yellow, blue and red brands though. Sticking with Craftsman, they’ve never let me down. Except my router, that piece of crap is getting tossed soon!!. 😂👍 God bless!
Good review Steve ,It’s nice to stay with all the same brand and batteries. you need to check out on RUclips (smarter every day ) circular saw kick back killer. It’s about science for hand tools The guy that did the video was on roadkings channel maybe two years ago. That was about a glass head Briggs small engine. And yes It’s hard to keep some people safe. Hopefully you will like it
I'm my opionion the brushless vs brush is hand down going for the brush design , only for the difference in price . I can't see me burning up this one so for me going brushless is not worth the extra money.
Just disappointed that DeWalt didn't release the UK model style (DCG405) over here in the US. That model has a side switch which i like better then the paddle style. If you get a chance look at the video by Oz Tool Talk. Also these grinders are missing the top handle position. They only come on the both sides. Kobalt even has a 24v grinder that has the top and side section for the handle. Seems like DeWalt and Milwaukee has to release a new generation for this one mistake. Just wanted to share..
We see you don't read instructions either lol, I bet it told you in there what the wrench was for and to leave battery disconnected when mounting disc LOL. I wonder what the run time is on it continuously grinding? I never seen an allen wrench grinder tool either so that's a new on for me as well lol
Chase I used it pretty good for 1/2 hour grinding and it still had two out of three bars. If I was really using it hard I bet 1/2 would be tops. Never seen an allen wrench for a grinder WTH :)
You mentioned that a box of Walter discs could last 12yrs before you used them up. Discs may last a long time but I wouldn't use one several years old, new or used. All grinding/cutting discs are stamped with an expiry date on the metal ring around the hole. It is put there because the resins used in the manufacturing process will degrade over time. BTW, I have the same grinder and I love it!
John I posted a picture of the disk on my instagram so if you want to look just look in this video description and click on my instagram link to see. I don't see one .
Yes I finally seen the spot for the allen wrench after Steve Campbell mentioned it earlier . Man I had to look real close but that is the spot for it. Thanks I posted it on my Instagram as well. Cheers
Guess who's looking at this video for the 1st time over that dam allen wrench. The comments section saved me a trip back to store. And saved a associate from me berating dewalt😀

Allen wrench is to remove the nut that holds the discs on. Look at the nut close!
Steve I just went out in the shop to re-check. Nope the disk holder has 4 holes in it for the disk removal tool and that's it no allen anywhere.
The 4 holes are 6 sided for the Allen wrench to fit into one hole to remove the nut. I use the Allen wrench daily to remove the nut.

Hopefully you will like it
Thanks Joe - will check him out.
Anyone knows whats is the cutting depth?
Depending on the disk about 1.5 inches.
@@SteveRobReviews Thanks
@@SteveRobReviews I'm looking at two options DCG412 and DCG405 what is you opinin on the DCG405
I'm my opionion the brushless vs brush is hand down going for the brush design , only for the difference in price . I can't see me burning up this one so for me going brushless is not worth the extra money.
@@SteveRobReviews Thanks , I think i will go for the brushless since all my tools are Dewalt brushless
Steve I'm going to buy me one I always wanted one ! Christmas Present for me! LOL
Annie the yellow is a good match for you. I bet you could use it around the farm in a million places . Cheers
When all else fails read the instructions
😅🤣👍
Thank you!
Great review
Thanks Allan
We see you don't read instructions either lol, I bet it told you in there what the wrench was for and to leave battery disconnected when mounting disc LOL. I wonder what the run time is on it continuously grinding? I never seen an allen wrench grinder tool either so that's a new on for me as well lol
Chase I used it pretty good for 1/2 hour grinding and it still had two out of three bars. If I was really using it hard I bet 1/2 would be tops. Never seen an allen wrench for a grinder WTH :)
I can't have one :/ I don't own the appropriate safety gear. lol Dewalt makes the best.
Think safety eh :)
Semms decent and at a fair price. Enjoy!
Yes it's a great price for being cordless. In other parts of the world I can see it being quite pricey.
I like my 20v DeWalt power tools !! 😋
They are pretty good and for the price about the same as corded these days.
Thanks John i'm going to go out to the shop and look right now. I did not even look. Great tip.
@@SteveRobReviews Let us know what you find out. I'm curious to see how old they are.
John I posted a picture of the disk on my instagram so if you want to look just look in this video description and click on my instagram link to see. I don't see one .
Dewalt D24802 Grinder Flange Nut # N106341
Yes I finally seen the spot for the allen wrench after Steve Campbell mentioned it earlier . Man I had to look real close but that is the spot for it. Thanks I posted it on my Instagram as well. Cheers
Guess who's looking at this video for the 1st time over that dam allen wrench. The comments section saved me a trip back to store. And saved a associate from me berating dewalt😀
HAHA I know what ya mean .........
Steve You are driving Me to the "Poor House" with all of these "Must have Tools" ... LOL :(
Hum my wife says the same thing. LOL Cheers Jack
Kinda seems like if they say there is a wrench, there should be a wrench…
Yep , that's a big if 😅😅
@@SteveRobReviews I’ve heard others say the same thing (missing wrench)about this grinder but it seems like those were refurbished models…looks like it works well and since I own a number of 20v tools, ima get one anyway… I got a pair of 2 ah batteries and a pair of 5 ah batteries… I like not being tied to a cord…cheers and thanks for the review…I too have a 25 year old makita with a cord
👍
Your not the first one that Allen wrench put a whoopen on.
LOL and a big whoopen too.
i have the Same LED Yellow LED Light - Bought at Costco Canada
Yes exactly , great light 👍🇨🇦
@@SteveRobReviews This Grinder is GOOD
Thinking about This or the DCG413B Brushless
this one on sale now at Crappy Tire $99.99
Good price and awesome grinder .
looks like a good deal.
So far so good . Cheers buzz
Omg please don't change the Blade with the battery in it!!!! :0 lock or no lock your playing with fire!
Good idea to think safety !!!
Remember, this dewalt grinder model has the safety lock switch. Once it's lock you will be fine.
Still i get the your point.
Steve, you have a tool-buying addiction.
Ask me how I know.
LOL so true buddy. 👍
Smoking deal yet again!
Lots of smoke on the channel eh bud LOL
@@SteveRobReviews Watch out the Leftist are gonna out law smoke,

Off amazon.ca it goes on sale once in awhile or Mississauga Hardware in toronto. Both free shipping . Born in Ontario , the flag was given to me by a viewer. Many think its a union jack :)
That's not the 20v max
Says right on it 20v max .
Yeah when you only use 2 of the 4 holes. Lol
Ya is right 😅😅
