“Casa de Azucar” is in Batangas. I believe its worth the trip. Its how the City of Manila was before it was destroyed during WW2. You guys should check it out. Then head to the city of Baguio up north for a milder climate 😊

I say this all the time. Philippines' greatest export is its people, even though we may not be as wealthy as other first-world nations. It is not that I am a Filipino, but hospitality is deeply rooted in our culture. Every country in the globe has a unique approach to welcoming guests, but the Philippines, I suppose, comes in first. Where would you see a stranger ask you to host you for something you expected the least? Don't be surprised if you encounter this Josh frequently throughout the nation. Enjoy you stay in the country.

She mentioned dirty kitchen but it is just an area of the house, She is not really implying that it is dirty, Dirty kitchens in asian countries refers to the outside or separate kitchen where they cook the complex stuff, where they process meats and fish that can be quiet messy, they also cook meals in big batches here sometims.. Some big houses can have separate kitchens like this and they have a basic kitchen to cook non messy and basic stuff inside their house.

Doing the "mano", hand gesture of getting the hand and putting on one's forehead for blessing is usually done to the elders. The younger ones would prefer "beso" or placing your cheeks together with theirs as a sign of greeting.

Thank God ur new Filipino friend served a classic Friday favorite Ginisang Monggo or Sauteed Mung and fried milkfish and not the most famous ones Adobo and Sinigang. U cant get more Filipino than that. And also u did great ordering Beef Kaldereta ni Barbara’s and Brazo De Mercedez, Milkfish, u actually ordered the right ones there. And ur friend served the normal food served everyday in a household. Ive read some (not youtubers) who doesnt like Filipino cuisine and food but when i asked them where they had tried it, they wont answer, prolly not in the top authentic restaurants or karenderias (the local by the side of the road small restos/canteens) and also not in a local Filipino home then judges our food badly. No matter how u explain they wont even try to listen or understand and just its not good although they say there are very few which are they fave. While ive seen others which changed their minds when one of their family members marries a Filipina and cooked home made fresh filipino food for them. Half of our food are spanish influences hence the name Caldereta, tomato based dishes are from Spain influence hence the similarity to Portugese, Spanish and some Latin Countries/Mexican Food, the other half are influenced by Chinese, some are similar to Indonesians, Malaysian food and also a mixed of local food from local homegrown sources like Pinakbet or Pakbet that originated from the northern Luzon Region of the Philippines which is more abundant with local vegetables.

Happy to hear we are finally trying some of the right food! 😝 I am always honest if I like or don’t like something, and most of the Filipino food I’ve tried has been amazing! Big fan of all the others you listed too haha

@@TheJourneyofJosh so far uve tasted the best ones for me. My most fave are Beef Kaldereta, Kare-Kare (thats a must soon u can try it, north of Bulacan where Pampanga is, the province after Bulacan is the culinary capital of the Philippines were my mom and my mom’s family are natives of and they speak another Language which i can understand 75% only but cant speak, they make the best Kare Kare, Sisig (Pampanga is where it originated from), Tocino, Longganiza also originated from there (Pampanga’s Best Brand)Kapampangans are known to be the best cooks in the Philippines)Lechong Kawali, Bulalo, Sizzling Gambas, Sizzling Tofu/Tokwa, Buttered Shrimps/Prawns, Baked Cheese Mussels, Sizzling corn and mushrooms, Bulalo and i think u will like Picadillo, Mechado, Menudo, Afritada coz Caldereta is like their family, all are tomato sauce based and are Spanish influenced. Tapsilog, Tocilog, Longsilog these are must try for breakfast, Si is shortcut for Sinangang which means Fried Rice or garlic fried rice, Itlog means egg plus To is for Tocino, Tap is for Tapa hence Tapsilog, Longsilog is Longganiza Sinangag Itlog meaning Longganiza with Garlic Fried Rice and sunny side up Egg, best sauce is vinegar with banana ketchup then a lil bit of chili powder or sliced small chilis then mix. Atsara is the one u ate as side dish at Barbara’s meaning Pickled Papaya with garlic, carrots usually, my mom makes that all the time before and she even makes Peanut Butter by hand, she has a machine for home made Peanut Butter and we sell it too and its pure peanuts not unlike the ones sold even in UK or US/Canada with extenders or they make it creamier (my siblings lives in Canada so i can compare) my mom makes the organic ones with pure peanuts and just a lil bit of oil so it wont harden up. And u also have to try Taho or Silkened Tofu its served hot by the vendor roaming around the streets in the whole Philippines and in Baguio City (where ur strawberry milkshake was from in BGC) there is Fresh Strawberry Taho and Blueberry Taho or Ube Taho. Must try for u when u go to Baguio City or Tagaytay City (best views of starbucks in the world and smallest active volcano in the world within a lake within a volcano within a lake) (2 hrs by bus from manila, colder place) south of metro Manila which i think u have missed before going to the islands.
