Yeah. Totally did not discuss defense or lack thereof. Cannot even image Bird just standing at the 3-point line and waiting for the ball like they do today.
@@Courtside3661 Also didn't discuss the fact that his average shots per game were lower than todays players, because of the fact that he was also looking to get his teammates involved if they had the better shot. Instead of forcing up a bad shot like a lot of todays players tend to due.
Bird would thrive no matter what era he'd find himself in. Because rock-solid fundamentals and an ongoing commitment to honing one's skills are timeless.
Bird had a more complete game; could shoot, pass, and get to the hoop. He could post up as well and was “tricky quick “ on defense… He would dominate in today’s game
Larry shot 37.6 from three during his career on 1.9 attempts per game.... but in his last 8 seasons, once he finally started attempting more than one 3-pointer per game, he shot 50.0/39.8/90.6 (cumulative for his last 8 seasons in the league). His 3pt% was higher when he shot more of them (as it would be with most great shooters) so i have no doubt that he would be 41-43% career playing in today's 3-happy league
I wouldn't say that players today don't play defense, but I would say that all the floor spacing in today's games makes it more difficult to defend because players have to cover more ground.
The biggest difference is that in Birds day defenders could grab your shirt, lock you up with their arms, in short, the physicality then was completely harder than the "hands off" rules of today. Bird wasn't only a 3 point shooter, he was an elite passer and could drive to the basket shooting with either hand. I don't see how a defender could stop him with todays rules! James Worthy once said in a court side interview when asked who he would rather guard, Michael Jordan, or Larry Bird. Worthy said without hesitation, Michael Jordan. A bit surprised, the interviewer asked why and Worthy said; "Michael make you look slow, Bird make you look stupid!" Larry had a skill level that forced other players to play HIS game at HIS speed! A "prime" Larry Bird would dominate today!
Bird into today's NBA would not settle for an endless stream of 3-point shots. He would still want to involve his teammates and make it an all-around game. Since today's players cannot even begin to comprehend this, he would confuse them and cruise to one victory after another.
Instant championship
Bird would dominate in today’s no hustle, no defense NBA.

I agree I didn't discuss defense because it's impossible to calculate defensive intensity

He could match Nikola Jokic in every element of the game.
Nice job. Great video with some great facts.

I agree! Thanks for the support
Larry's hand speed was scary. A lot of his steals and blocks were due to just how fast he was. He was a momba before the Momba showed up. 😄

Great video! Magic Johnson next?
his passing and awareness is better than his shooting
He would crush, because the kids today do not or will not play defense. He would run circles around them.

Lebron would have walked away years ago if he had to play against Bird, or Jordan or Magic. That is if the written rules of basketball were followed.

Legend's 49 plus percent, because he taught himself to, ends how dominate he'd score 3's in today's game.
Bird’s intangibles were off the charts. Nobody could touch him back then. He’d be like Luka now. Maybe better
A nearly 6'10" elite passer, rebounder, shooter...Larry is Jokic and Luka combined..
Only better. 😉
Larry Legend would own these busters. They could not carry his gym bag. Night and day.
