Sri Lankan American here. We were in SL in September 2019, just before the pandemic. My wife and I were the only ones from the U.S. on a 9-day tour of the Island with Insight Vacations. There were 14 Australians also on the tour. We had a great time and would like to visit again. When do you think there will be no quarantine and other restrictions?

This country has its own original color ... The color of Sri Lanka! Their culture is beautiful and interesting, especially their squad of drum dancers! Never been there but met a few Sri Lankan friends who are friendly, humble and couteous! Enjoy the trip!

Even on video I have never seen so many baby elephants, so cute to see them come running for their food! Nice to see them being cared for so well, they certainly looked happy. The food and beaches look great too.

There are some restaurants that do party cuisine ie food for parties and come to your house and make fresh hoopers !
HOPPERS at London is not really authentically Sri Lankan. They are all mixed/twisted with South Indian dishes.

I love the way you guys are presentting and explaining everything. Very positive and , refreshingly honest information. Some bloggers visit srilanka, stay in cheap unknown dodgy places and blog about how they have been scammed, portraying negativity and mostly untrue facts about the entire country. Good things no cheap cheap things no good. In any country Shady people love to take advantage of tourists and its easy to become a victim. Its always better to contact the tourist board in the country you ate travelling to, getting them organise & arrange a trip itinerary for you.. Expensive? Yes. But you get your moneys worth. You could even give them your budget so that they could organise something within the range you could afford. Safer too.

The list of hotels are in the description. We cannot recommend the real Ayurvedic treatments because we personally have not tried it.

Before the Western world went crazy about garcinia cambogia as a natural ingredient for weight loss, Sri Lankans used it for many centuries in cooking to give food the unique sour taste somewhat like that of lemon. Garcinia cambogia is what is known in Sri Lanka as “goraka”. It is the fruit of the goraka tree that falls to the ground when ripe with a sweet outer layer and sour segments inside that are taken apart or fall apart and are dried in the sun. They turn black last without any mold and never deteriorate and Sri Lankans grind it into a paste . Goraka as dried segments or as a paste has been used in Sri Lankan cooking as a food preservative in the past before the use of refrigerators. Fish such as ambul thyal curry that uses only 4 or 5 ingredients, namely fish, (tuna or similar) , goraka paste, salt, black pepper and optional cinnamon stick when cooked with a small amount of water to a very dry consistency lasts for weeks even without refrigeration. In Ayurvedic medicine goraka is also used for indigestion and as a remedy for diarrhoea. Now it is popular for losing weight.

Welcome back to SL, Thank you for posting this video and promoting SL. Looks like you are having fun, We4 were supposed to be in SL mid May with the family but had to cancel due to COVID. you have become an expert using your fingers to eat.

There's a lot of similarity between some Sri Lankan and Indonesian foods. Sambals are big in both places. If anything, Sri Lankan cuisine is like a cross between southern Indian and Indonesian cuisines. Fun fact: Northern Sumatra is closer to Sri Lanka than it is to Bali!
Authentic Sri Lankan cuisine is unique. It’s nothing like Indian or Indonesian food. Sri Lankans use different spices, and techniques to prepare food. Sri Lankan (Sinhalese) food (especially curries) are mainly cooked with coconut milk and cream when Indians use a lot of oil and no coconut milk or cream in their curries and they use different spices. There are so many differences.
In srilangka, they named a sambal too or you just said that because look like Sambal from Indonesia?
We call it Sambal too.... bt the pronunciation is different..... but I believe we got the word from our Malay friends

Some exchange students in other channel said that Indonesian food looks like Srilankan food. And seeing this I can really see the resemblance. The coconut sambal for example, in Indonesia we call it urap. We also had a dish that looks like the egg hoppers but we didn’t add egg to it. Interesting 😲
