They can be listening to a beat that’s an absolute 9/10, but if they listen to another one that’s 8/10 that is nostalgic to them, they will pick that one as a better beat

Let’s make no mistake about it, to make a beat by sampling, you are using help from the person that composed the music. So even though they are truly great producers and samplers, they are making hits as a team. Period. But when you actually compose the music that is bangers, that is definitely more impressive. So to say “Lets get up there and see who can chop or sample faster” is not the best way at all to determine who’s the best producer… although 9th is right about nostalgia being apart of the equation too much as well.
