Wonderful. Back in the late 1970s and early 1980s I visited Leipzig often. It was a ruin and yet its greatness in so many realms was evident. I do believe that you are on your way to being the new European Harvard University. Yes it will take a century or two, but you--ambitious, devoted, concentrated, loving--will do it. You will outlive me but I thank you already for what you can do in the centuries to come. WOHLAN und AUFWAERTS! PS the recording here was glassy most of the time and full of echoes to the point of incomprehensibility [ for example around 5:51 not sure what is being sung, its a fog] .....let's take a look at baffling or significantly reducing the reverberations from those hard red brick walls so the listener can understand the text. The music serves the text but if the text is untelligible, was nutzt es? Even when a soloist sings, I cannot understand what s/he is singing (8:12 or 36:50--you may know the text already as a performer or a conductor and you will have no problem, if you do not know the preeminent text, like most listeners, you will have no idea what is being sung/enunciated, which defeats the use of the Biblical text). Overall the impression is praechtig but in the particulars and the essential understability of the text, the church just doesn't make it possible for the singers to project an understandable text. Here's what I would modestly suggest you aim for in terms of simple, clear acoustics in a church environment: "Wachet Auf" BWV 140 from the Netherlands Bach Society : ruclips.net/video/DqZE54i-muE/видео.html Again thank you. You can and will do better. Maybe you need to choose a new venue minus the Thomaskirche aura, just so that people like me can understand what you are singing. Of course that is athema but if the text is unintelligible you defeat the purpose of the music itself. So please make the text alive and be liveable until it is understandable! Fog defeats The Word. I live in New York again after living many years in Berlin.. I cannot wait to come back to Leipzig, to Berlin, to Germany in 2022. YES WE CAN

When I hear this top quality I cannot suppres the feeling that the director can express his qualities better here than at the Thomaner..
