How did anyone write such divine music? This is perfection. With all our brilliant musicians today, why can no one now write music as beautiful as this?
Perhaps music is a reflection of the general culture..... Contemporary "music" is aggressive, violent, discordant, confused, complicated, mechanical, anxious, purposeless, meaningless, lacking harmony, and lacking melody.
To me, the first 3 min. are "childhood" , just learning the first steps, and then start to walk and then play, learn, fall in love ... The second 3 min are with a young, dynamic, full of energy, full of imagination young male, and the last 3 min, are about an old person, not too happy, a thinker, a person full of melancholy till his death !MY LIFE
Love the Eggner brothers! Wonderful- I was in the competition with them in Melbourne- they deserved the first prize, such fine playing- always tasteful, never overwrought. Just lovely.
Great to see your comment, Nathan. I'm an Aussie, too and have written to them saying that I'll definitely be tracking them down when they're here next.
+Dennis Dooley I think it's the most subtle and exquisite version on You Tube and one of the most beautiful pieces of music I have ever heard. (I had never heard it until I posted my initial comment).
+Ian Grant It is interesting how many people do not know this piece. I discovered it at a trio recital about 2 years ago and I have never forgotten it. As you indicate, this version by the Eggner Trio is exquisite. The pianissimo passages are superbly mastered by all 3 musicians. There are a few versions on RUclips which are also excellent, but this one in particular has captured the essence of the piece, and at just the perfect tempo. Sometimes the violin can be ever so slightly overpowering, but here the balance between the 3 instruments is absolutely perfect. I am glad you enjoy it too, Ian. As +Violoncello remarked, the audience gave the music all its space before applauding. Indeed a fabulous performance.
+Dennis Dooley I almost fully agree with you, Dennis, but when you listen to other versions, the piano swamps the strings. It doesn't here. I agree thoroughly agree about the tempo and their awareness of each other, is superb - inspired ensemble playing. As you can tell, I keep coming back to this one!!
+Ian Grant Sorry Dennis, I fully agree with you. I now realise that I read your comment incorrectly. I'm pleased to have read that this trio has won a major competition in my land of Oz. Maybe that will bring them back some time. Here's hoping!
Schubert's chamber music, especially the piano sonatas, Impromptus and string quintet, are indeed simply divine. For me they have been a source of great spiritual and aural delight for most of my long life. And all this in such a brief and emotionally sad life. Perhaps, as his biographies confirm, an unrequited love undoubtably played a key role here.
I love both performances. Beaux Arts bring a more refined touch to it. Eggner Trio is more lively. There is something refreshing about seeing folks a bit closer to Schubert's own age (when he wrote the piece) expressively performing it.
Rocks me to my ancestral roots! Oh how I wish I could play any of the instruments like this, let alone compose the music. Such uplifting and profound music. Can't wait to do a music video of Australian Landscapes with this as a backing.
Watching the unfolding landscape from a pic in the Blue Mountains or following the slow movements of a whale shark in Ningaloo Reef or star gazing in the Outback. Schubert will be at your side.
Michel Chamel i just listen several trio for this piece and i like better this one i like this tempo a little bit fast but not too much and very good interpretation together congratulations from France
If you call syphilis (treponema pallidum spirochete) love, but only if you call it that. He was a great composer, maybe the greatest romantic given his short life span. Only Wagner approaches his ability. Beethoven is too much classical/romantic.
The best interpretation of this great piece !! Forget this silly comment below - this must have been the taxi driver who took them to the concert and did not get a big enough tip ...!!! Either way, agaim has no taste for good music I guess.
Serene, a bit menlancholy, reflective, nether worldly, wish this sonorous piece to be played for my departure ...from this life...

My congratulations to the Eggner Trio for such a sensitive interpretation. Such beauty, such great beauty.
Yes. See my comment above. The awareness of each other is fantastic.
Schubert died when he was 31 years old, younger even than Mozart. But he will always live among us with his beautiful music. Superb interpretation.
One can only imagine what he would have composed had he lived another 20 years
The music is sublime. The musicians are outstanding. The overall effect is what real music is all about. I feel privileged to have found this video.
+John Henriksen I agree. Schubert certainly wrote some superb music.
Great comment, sir. It is a magnificent piece of music and the musicians are superb.
Absolut erstaunlich, absolut bequem. Ausgezeichnet!
Interprétation d une qualité exceptionnelle,pleine d'émotion! .MAGNIFIQUE!

What a nice analysis! Thanks for that.
You said it beautifully. It is very touching what you wrote. You must be sensitive and special, hence the melancholy.
This is up there with the very best music played on You Tube. A masterful interpretation!

Splendid interpretation. I love the Eggner Trio's emphasis on the passion and contrasts of this piece.
I fully agree. beautifully played, especially by the Pianist, whose control is stunning..
Someone said to Schumann (apocryphal of course) "I wish we could have had Schubert longer" Schumann replied "how wonderful to have had him at all."
+H. Harrison This piece certainly supports that view!! Thanks for that lovely snippet.
Maybe he was needed in Heaven?
For me this is the most beautiful peace of music !!
Peaceful music
Quelle musique, quelle émotion. C'est grandississime !

Lovely and so meditative! Great tempo; great music.
A comment section refreshingly devoid of lunacy! That's the impact of Schubert's dream and its interpreters here. Totally absorbing
Maravillosa y excelente interpretación. Gracias por esta joya.
Electric performance ....passionate interpretation.. beautifully executed by all three
This music captures the shortness of breath one experiences when falling in love.

It is one of the very few pieces of music that has me sobbing.

Wonderful!
The angels play Schubert too
... unless they play Mozart or have to practice Bach - as the theologian Karl Barth once said!

Yes...and yes thrice
To Tetica Preciosa: That is correct and I also say thanks, but without Schubert would not exist the work...
Ennio. Tu non puoi più. L'ho ascoltata io per Te
And the woman?
Seconarizado?? Second best composer of his time???
Sorry. Do you mean he was not appreciated or supported in his life time? I agree.
