- Flathead fishing is always enjoyable but when fishing in 4 foot of water it presents different challenges.
So today I ventured up to Caloundra to chase some flathead in Pumicestone passage. The weather was pretty good with only a 6 knot breeze at my back and fishing the run out tide.
The end result was the capture of 2 nice lizards.
Well done, mate! Great demonstration of what a slow tapered fibreglass rod is designed to do - absorb the lunges while still putting pressure on a good fish.
Wow - Really nice Flatties - Well done mate - Keep up the great Vids - Cheers
Couple of nice slabs there John 👏🏼
Well done JP.
Another great session John, really glad I found your channel. Love the “bread and butter” fishing that you do. Thanks for sharing and I look forward to your next video.
love your channel. real old school and no bullshit
Nice lizards mate. My Dad would be jealous.
Well worth the trip John.
John, how do you rig up your pilchards for flathead?
I fish with 9lb main line with a 12lb leader. Just the basic sinker swivel with the leader down to a 2 hook gang rig. I cut the pilchards in half. Nothing special.
I've caught the best lizards of my life land based fishing in the passage, all I will say is south of the jetty. Caught them up to a metre long but anything over 75cms I returned to the water as they are the female breeders. Yep get yourself a brag mat, dead easy to measure your fish.
John I hope you don't mind me asking where your get the Jimmy Crane rods from I like them
Last time I bought them it was online from Tackleworld at Kawana Waters - I have also bought them before from Motackle. www.motackle.com.au/fishing/rods/jarvis-walker-aurora-rod.html
Mate can I ask what size and model your tinny is?
@@johnthefishingman Thank Motackle is only 20 min from Urunga
I have an Ally Craft - Reel Mate model 4.25 m - it is not a quintrex but it is ok for me.
Nice catch mate
What bait were you using?
Pilchards
