This played out VERY differently in the campaign! They probably changed it up to hit certain story points better, which I think they did fantastically btw. -The Sphinx’s challenge was totally different. -Umbrasyl doesn’t follow the group, as a result Kamaljiori lives. -The party does not get separated in the fey realm As a result of these changes, not even we critters know exactly what’s coming! And we love it!
This is much better imo, making every and each dragon more threatening and more powerful, because if I remember correctly after they got 3 or 4 vestiges most fights with the Dragons became almost a walk in the park, the hardest one to kill beside Tordak was the acid dragon which they found a very unusual way to kill lol
@@lucas33308 I wouldn’t call ANY of the fights ‘walks-in-the-park’ the cast looked visibly exhausted after each of them. I WILL however call them straightforward.
Did you catch the foreshadowing? Back in episode 2, when talking with Osysa, she said that it pains her to be apart from her mate. She gave them the answer!!
She also said "It's not me you should be concerned with letting down. Only each other." Percy and Vex, as well as Grog and Pike. I wonder if there will be more.🤫
@@ForeverDegenerate Having a difference of opinion is not a big deal in the long run, especially since the group did go and help in the end. Killing someone's sibling, or impaling your best friend are much bigger concerns IMO.
Also Scanlans song was SO good and the whole sequence was just beautiful to watch, the animation has really stepped up despite already being great in season 1!
The last thing I expected to see in this show was a whole music video. Which is silly of me, considering Sam's involved in the writing. *Campaign 1 spoilers:* I love how much that conversation with Kamaljiori sets up future Scanlan events. It can apply to his relationships with Pike _and_ Kaylie, plus him becoming Ioun's champion. Really cool and beautiful scene.
Reminds me of that time the group insisted Matt make Sam actually sing for something, and he was like, "No, that's way too easy. If it were anyone else then sure, but this is Sam we're talking about!"
It's always good to remember that Grog's "intelligence" is so low he is unable to read or write, let alone resist the temptation of an otherworldly speaking sword.
The "yellow portal" as you pointed out looks very much like Pike's magic so I've been wondering if the Everlight intervened to bring her to a healer or, at least, someone who could help. This is different than the campaign, so even those of us who have seen the stream are waiting to find out!
IIRC, in the campaign, when Grog stabbed Pike, she said, "It's okay, Grog," while still impaled. It broke my heart. ToT Edit: Julia's eye makeup is amazing in this video! Great earrings, too.
These reactions are so good and your hunches and theories are so good! I thought I’d just watch my favorite moments but I’ll have to watch them all! I love this episode. The animation of the piano keys really blew me away.
A bit of forewarning, I’m guessing that we’ll be getting Grog and Pike’s backstory in the next set of episodes….stock up on ALL THE TISSUES. I love that you picked up on the one thing that so many other reactors missed, the bond between Scanlan and Kami. Due to his isolation, Scanlan was probably the first friend Kamaljiori would have had in centuries or longer. Throughout the battle his biggest focus is protecting his friend, and in the end he sacrifices himself to save Scanlan from the fall.
- Are you okay? /very quietly/ - No.... Absolutely feel the same. So many emotions from you guys, more than from the episode (and I`m still сrying over Scanlan`s song). I`m absolutely in love with your analysis at 22:22 of how the song scene works and why it creates so much emotion (and oh yes, *it does* ) What breaks my heart more than Scanlan being lonely, is the fact that Osysa has lost her love. They`ve waited for so long... and now they will see each other only in an afterlife, if the one exists for such powerful beings... I`m crying again, this episode is so heartbreaking. And seeing Grog`s face? This quiet and worried "Pike?" from him?? And the fact that Keyleth is in the other team, so who knows what happens now. In general, who knows what happens now, because they`re separated, on the different plan of reality, _and_ Umbrasyl stole the sword. I can`t predict anything at this point. Your thoughts about goliaths and their motivations are so good, I`ve replayed this part like 10 times. I can`t confirm if your thoughts are at the right direction or not, because I myself don`t know this part of the campaign that well, but I love them. (Small clarification: Scanlan can heal, he was the one who casted a spell on Keyleth at the 12th episode of first season. But would it be enough here, I don`t know) Thank you very much for your reaction!!
I do recommend watching a playlist called Between the Sheets on the critical role channel, it’ll give you a lot of insight into the people behind their characters and how they’ve used the game as a form of group therapy.
Based on my own research the single greatest contributor to "drama" whether in entertainment/fiction or real life is a lack of sufficient, honest communication between the involved parties.
So in the game two things were very different: Grog didn't hurt Pike because of Craven Edge ( although it certainly was a bloodthirsty as here) and they had to fight in an arena and find out the sphinx's name. The letters to it were hidden behind portals, leading to a space- like dimension. Grog has gone through, and is now floating off, drifting away from the portal, when he attaches an endless chain to craven edge and throws it through the portal, hoping to anchor himself. What happens next is... well, see for yourselves: ruclips.net/video/PfvVssT83MU/видео.html
Scanlan MVP, as per usual. They are all amazing, each one of their characters in each campaign, but this gnome is something else. Charm a Sphinx? A Tuesday for the gnome cowboy. Hopefully we’ll get some more of his impersonations / deception in the future. Loved it in s1 when he tried it on Vedmire on their second encounter!
Scanlon can heal. His magic healed Keyleth in the last episode of season 1. He might have difficulty finding the material components that were used for that spell, but I think he can figure something out. Also, Grog probably has a health potion on him.
And that isn't a spoiler... It's just a guess... I don't remember the party being split in the campaign, after Pike was stabbed, so I don't actually know how they will fix her.
I knew this was going to be Trent's episode, what with Grog and Scan-man being the main focus of this episode. It played out differently, but Grog stabbing Pike was so upsetting, especially after so many bad thing happening with the Dragons and nearly losing Vex. I don't know everything that's going to happen since things have changed a lot, but be ready for even more feels.
@@DisneyLover258 to be fair, I did have to check their names, so don’t feel too bad. I wanted to make sure I got Trent’s name right since Scan-man & Grog were at the heart of the episode.
Ripley never approached the dragons, the challenge was completely different, the dragon never attacked, the sphynx never died, and the party never split. Grog did skewer Pike at some point, pretty sure it wasn't here; I guess they're splitting the party to go after two vestiges at once? Umbrasyl was wounded enough to return to his lair, but everyone was already in Westruun for that; maybe they've moved it to this? It's far more dramatic than the original, and continues truncating events to fit into the show. Not a fan of killing the sphynx, though. First a beneficial door, now splitting the party. How many tropes do they intend to break?
Mythcarver has already done more in this show than it did in the entire stream, glad to see they made it more useful 😆
Naaaah. Sam totally used mythcarver. Twice. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Julia's reaction for THAT moment with Pike and Grog was priceless! Don't worry guys, that's how everyone reacted! Buddies!!!
Finally a reasonable reaction to Grog stabbing his best friend.
