I’ve owned a BUNCH of the A01 launch models over the years. 2 got YLOD and were beyond saving, later stolen by someone who told me they could fix them. I have 3 working A01s now, each having the IHS covers for the RSX and CPU cut off and thermal paste replaced on the dyes of the chips, custom firmware for added fan control which keeps the system WAY cooler. Those 2 processes can avoid hardware failure which was common for these BC models 😎👍🏻

Going by raw compute power, the PS3's Cell Broadband Engine CPU is actually more powerful than even the CPU of the PS4 Pro, but it was so ridiculously hard to develop for that very few games were able to take advantage of that power. The main improvement between PS4 and PS5 is that PS5 is built around extremely fast load times thanks to the SSD, while PS4 uses a hard drive, and developers on PS4 have to take hard drive load times into account.
I got the 80gb model that had ps2 emulation. My dad paid 500 bucks for it, was the motorstorm edition. My younger brother somehow managed to shove 7 discs in it. My dad got them all out with needle nose pliers. Played it 4 years after that until it got the ylod
I love the ps3 dashboard so much. We had a ps3 when it first came out but i was to young to really remember it. My older brother supposedly poured a soda into it and killed it. so sad. So i ended up growing up with an xbox 360 slim and those were some good times
I have like you all the PS . Ps 3 is definitely my favourite. I m currently on FF13 and you know what, I like it more now than ever. Also a really good thing is that there’s the optical sound plugin that I’m using still today with my old school amplifier
I got the 40gb version 2 i guess? It still works great! I did have an issue with the disc drive when gta 4 came out i think it was overworking the disc drive caus it was sort of a comon issue and sony fixed it for free. Its been solid since then so far its not as pretty as the 1st gen cause of that chrome bezel 😂 but i love the ps3
i wish i had bought a backwords compatible ps3 back when it was cheaper now there expensive but im lucky now i have Laptop and Xbox Series S if i ever want too play Ps2 games on something else i also have a Ps2 as well

You can somewhat delay it by delidding the chips and replacing the capacitors but it's only a matter of time. You can replace the original RSX with one from a PS3 Slim but the risk is still high and it's a complicated process. I bought one myself delidded and eventually got a red light of death. A jailbroken PS3 Slim or Super Slim is probably better if you want to play PS2 games on it, it supports the vast majority of the PS2 library, over 75% according to compatibility lists.
They actually were going to charge for online play but when hackers shut down the PS3 servers for a week Sony had to regain trust from its consumers. Millions of people’s credit card information were stolen

The upgrade from ps2 to ps3 ( Xbox 360) was significant because the TVs changed. We no longer had CRT's but instead flat screen HD TVs.

I started out on the ps1 I'm glad I experienced ps1 2 & 3 I skipped 4&5 due to growing up and working off.. But I recently started a ps3 collection
if only later models of the ps3 were backwards compatible...
You can run PS1 games on all PS3s and PSP. With HEN (Jailbreaking), slims and super slims can also run PS2.

Fat PS3s have terrible airflow, i'm not surprised. You really need to delid them if you actually want to operate a non-slim in 2024. @@edmaxwell257
PS3 library is impressive enough it doesn't need PS2 games. I get why they took it away.

Fun Fact: The ps3 UI was first introduced for the psp but they liked it so much they kept it for ps3

Sealed or not, best change that thermal paste and also install HEN so you can better control the fan speed, keep it cooler.
