loved the drawing, but here is a tip, use a different color for the background or the dress, since they are both red, they look the same instead of two different objects even with the blue shadow, by doing this the dress will pop more
You say that, but it differs. I think in this case it works really well, as the red color of the background matches the dress, making red the clear theme. Both the background and the dress being red makes the face/skin and hair stand out, which is the most important part in this piece, rather than having the dress stand out. The composition of the drawing is also making the face and hair the main focal point, so the colors commit to that. If you are designing a character, an OC, then yes- I agree with making the background a different color, but since this is a quick drawing not concentrating on the character but the style, the background used is appropriate. Long story short, using a background color the same as the dress can be effective, your "tip" is only useful for certain types of drawing, for example, making an OC. =====> Coming from someone with a degree in Graphic Design & Art. This was quickly typed up so I haven't gone in much detail, but hope this helps
