This is amazing. I got to get one. Never owned a modular synth, but have wanted to get into it for a couple of years now. This looks like a great introduction to it.
Excellent, thank you, I think that's one of the most interesting 0-coast videos I've seen. Particularly liked number 8 and look forward to the next ten patches :-)
thanks so much for this video, every other one I have seen just shows it making weird and annoying noises, I was thinking this couldn't generate anything musical. But hearing it do melodies is fantastic.
This is a great video! I have had an 0-Coast and love it so much! I either use it on its own, or patch it into my skiffs, DFAM, Mother-32. Such a great little synth!!!
Once I'm out of debt and have a bit of money to spare, I'm definitely getting getting this little beast. As for a more 'East Coast sound', i was thinking Moog Mother 32, or Pittsburgh Lifeforms SV1 . The filters are phenomenal on the Pittsburgh, but the sync sounded kinda crap. Despite this it's a good little deskstop semi-modular though. This has the edge on them all in the end imo I love those percussive patches that blur the line between bass and drums. Nice work with these patches. There's some really meaty full textures at work here. Loving these on headphones, properly rattling my skull. Good stuff.
i'm also curious about the Lifeforms SV-1 vs Mother-32. I definitely don't care about the onboard sequencer/arp so it's purely on the sounds and patch-ability level.
this is....... stunning...... im breathless here. It has some characteristics of an ARP or similarly scuzzy EMS. It may be time to start a eurorack setup next to my moog modular.
I just have to say 3, 6, and 7 were absolutely gorgeous! Besides doing a great demo you played some beautiful melodies and I'm glad I watched your video!!
Very nice. The 0-Coast is my modular ( semi-modular ) gateway drug, and I'm so happy with how flexible and unique sounding it is. These are great patches. I'm curious how you have MidiB setup since you have a few patches that use the additional CV and Gate outputs.
Thank you Oliver, it was the default setting i guess, in both patches i just used the gate output from MidiB wich mirrored the gate out of A basically just like a multiple.
I know that using this machine as mono synth by use midi keyborad and I'd like to know about one thing. If I use Midi in so as to control 0-corst and sink with DAW , I loose chaotic generated pattern of 0-coast? Then, If I use chaotic generated pattern, how do I sink tempo with DAW? I only use sequencer of Logic, so could you tell me some advice.
It has a knob that sets the decay curve from logarithmic through linear to exponential, and an attack (onset) knob that is very well calibrated for setting the volume curve in the first few fractions of a second. This makes it absolutely perfect for percussive sounds. It also has a sustain knob that enables it to do nice pads, and the attack (onset) knob also behaves well for pads past 12'o clock. However it's a monophonic synth, and we often expect pads to be polyphonic. I agree to that it can sound pretty FM like sometimes, you can actually do FM with it if you hit "cycle" on the slope generator, speed it up to audio rate, and patch the slope in the V/oct or LIN FM input.
Absolutely amazing - this demo has made me make the decision to buy it. Thank you for the inspiration! Would love to know what other gear went into producing those sounds you made?
We enjoy getting all these positive comments, so we did release the orignal midi files / and ableton live session for the demo (we have saved only 6 of those, but this might help). Download it from here: hitspace.hu/media/adamshare/0Coastmidi_87bpm.zip
So, patch 2 - mainly I wondering what is being sent from the midi b gate out to linear fm in? I think a lot of people would love the detailed notes about patches and sequencing on this, it’s a superb demo. Peace al
Awesome demo! Start of number 9 reminded me of the start and end of the album Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd! Guess I'm a huge Pink Floyd nerd, nearly everything reminds me of their songs! All-time fav band for me! :)
So i have a noob question , at 4:14 on Patch 7 of the video, I'm wondering Let's say i have a rhythm like the one in the video, which sounds like its looping.... is there a way to switch the pattern, Like go to another pattern that has either note changes or rhythm changes...Would i do this via midi sending a signal from my host (ableton) What would be the easiest way to switch patterns? because i'm really interested in these types of rhythms you're creating but i want to be able to progress through patterns, such a noob question because obviously i would do this easily in ableton without the 0-Cast but i know nothing about modules and i'm extremely interested in making my music more technical with modular help.
You'd change pattern by triggering another clip in Ableton Live. It could be like pressing a key on the keyboard, or pushing a button on a MIDI device. This has nothing to do with the sound engine, such as the 0-Coast.
Thought I'd revisit this... I ended up getting the Microvolt 3900 first. Awesome machine... Then 4 months later a pre-owned 0-Coast came up on eBay and I bid and got it cheap. So now I have both and they are great... I love the sounds you got at 2:07, absolutely gorgeous with that delay. Is the little 'slip' (portamento) being done by the sequencer?
Trying to decide to dip my toe into West Coast synthesis with either this or a Microvolt 3900; this vid does not make the decision any easier as I was leaning toward the Microvolt.
Thank you for sharing these great patches. I wish somehow I could get Tony Orlando to make this like a mini-matrixbrute. Hook it up with an entirely internal patching connection between all it’s points and be able to patch it physically but store and play patches back w/or w/out using cables. That would end my need or desire for any other synth. Please Help Me, ORLANDO!!!
If I wanted to trigger the Midi input on this guy from my DAW (so sending a Midi signal out of my computer towards the 0-Coast) would that require anything special other than having a USB to Midi cable going from the computer to the 0-Coast?
You need a USB MIDI interface and a MIDI track on your DAW. Make sure you the MIDI out channel on the DAW is set to the same MIDI in channel on the 0-coast.
Hi Mark, most sequences are quite simple, in the fourth patch I'm faking multitimbral behaviour by laying down radically different pitches very fast in dense clusters. Depending on their style density and overall pitch, the clusters can sound a little like different instruments.
Aalto's my favorite VST, but I don't think I've ever made sounds with it that sound anything like these ones. Personally I'd use U-He's Bazille or the stripped down version ACE if I wanted this sort of thing in a VST.
Ben from Sweetwater is gonna be so stoked when I order this puppy.
I just ordered one through Ben too 😅 Assuming there's only one Ben at Sweetwater...
you've made me buy one. my family goes another week without food 😊
if someone find this guy starved to death, get the synth and send it to me., details to follow^:)^
@ 7:25+ love that
They can eat beats
Food for the soul
If you can buy synths you don't have a wife... facts.
At least you can cook with this 😉
I can't tell you how happy I am with this demo. Way too many egos, way too much talking on other demos.
no talking is so good
🤫
The sounds of this synth are raw in an amazing way, don't get me wrong... but the sequencing is bloody inspiring too!! Thanks
This is by far the best demo of this unit. Nice work. I'd love to see/hear another 10.
this video sold a lot of 0-coasts
Can confirm - this video sold me on it!
Me soon also :D
I know, dear. I'm one of them.
I love how in that sequence around 4:40, the low note sounds like a completely different patch.
This is amazing. I got to get one. Never owned a modular synth, but have wanted to get into it for a couple of years now. This looks like a great introduction to it.
Wow... i was considering to get a Moog Mother 32 but now i am not so sure anymore...
Very nice demo. All playing, no talking, but text explanations added to the video. Fantastic. I really like the 0 Coast.
Perfect examples. Nice that you also can see the way its patched. Good work. This one is on my list for sure.
Dude that no.3 patch was gorgeous.
If it were not for this video I would not own this ridiculously good vibration spitter. Thank you sir.
Just got mine and loving it! Especially when you use it with Elektron gear for FX processing and sequencing.
Never really wanted one of these until now. Wow, such a great variety of sounds.
Number 3 is dangerous. Got me all interested in the Modular galaxy now. :)
number 3 brings a tear to my eye
we caught another one boys
wondeful 😱
the 3rd one put a tear in my eye
2:21 holy crap this is quite amazing of a patch
yo ianrhodes ferreal
This one sold me for shizzle!
yo ianrhodes watch yer language foul mouth
#8 really shows off it's inherent power - what a cool little Buchla-Esque beast this is. Thanks for the video!
A good synth really needs a good presentation to show its power ... after watching this I want one now
Excellent patches
this is brilliant
Thanks, actually it can sound in many more different ways, 10 patches barely scratch the surface.
Excellent, thank you, I think that's one of the most interesting 0-coast videos I've seen. Particularly liked number 8 and look forward to the next ten patches :-)
Mine should be arriving tomorrow and wow these patches are lovely! I love the cycle rise fall technique with the drums!
Awesome demo
The 7th is incredible!!
Really like the sound of this synth
That second patch and sequence was sooo cool. I would have loved to build around it.
Need to visit your store in Vienna some day... nice video. I hope you do more patches on other modules.
By far the geekiest synth I have ever seen, I love it!
you played some beautiful melodies on it! really well made patches and creative use
thanks so much for this video, every other one I have seen just shows it making weird and annoying noises, I was thinking this couldn't generate anything musical. But hearing it do melodies is fantastic.

Thank you Adam, I will check out Lifeforms soon!
i'm also curious about the Lifeforms SV-1 vs Mother-32. I definitely don't care about the onboard sequencer/arp so it's purely on the sounds and patch-ability level.
Adam Smith I'm debating between the same synths lol
Same hahaha
same

super sounding! beautiful analog texture
This little box can sound...savage!
Great set of 10! I've never heard so much percussion coming out of this synth. Nice work 🙌
Awesome video! Thanks for making it. Now that the MN Strega will be coming out I'm hoping to get a used 0-coast on the cheap
1:52 I'm in love
some great patches

You can program MIDI B in several ways. Very awesome ‘hidden feature’. I use it to drive other drum modules.
perfect sound demonstration of the synth
I think Richard T. Jamez, of Aphex Twin, would approve.
Yeah I think Richard D James would like this. But he's probably got rooms packed with analog synths that produce sounds like this. :D
rip bait
nipple b. flames
Ricardo C. Jaminez
Pritchard D Jams
finding out how a synth works is part of the fun! leave the explaining out of it
great vid
"Taking advantage of the synth is available by abusing signal flow." I'm not sure what the social implications of this are. Beautiful sounding synth.
#8 is my favourite. This machine makes so many great weird noises.
I know that using this machine as mono synth by use midi keyborad and I'd like to know about one thing.

love the patch starting at 1.35, copied all the patches and knob settings but don't get close...maybe mine is in a different mode?
Amazing patches.
it seems best at percussive sounds? Sorta have a FM feel...? Can it do stringy/padlike sounds?
It has a knob that sets the decay curve from logarithmic through linear to exponential, and an attack (onset) knob that is very well calibrated for setting the volume curve in the first few fractions of a second. This makes it absolutely perfect for percussive sounds.

it isn't polyphonic but you can patch up a convincing string sound for sure.
Not so much by itself, although it’s affinity to sound ‘fluffy’ helps. I layer it with my Minibrute... and then much delay... and u have a pad.
I like how the effects at the beginning sound like oldschool C64 tunes.
This cute little modular thing-y... is #badass! 👌😎
This makes me wana go to school
why
Because the person who made this cool machine went to school!
Great demo! It's a really interesting instrument. They must have looked at Space:1999 for the design, though :)
wish more analog synth makers would take Make Noise's approach! More west coast style synths please!
Wow the beginning sounds like the Galaga game
Great video thx for sharing!
I can't wait until I have my own.. Together with the 0-Ctrol.. Coming next week (I hope so)
Absolutely amazing - this demo has made me make the decision to buy it. Thank you for the inspiration! Would love to know what other gear went into producing those sounds you made?
1:09 Love that little button
Some interesting and powerful sounds :-)
I love this.
this video is brilliant! i know this is a longshot, but any chance of you releasing the midi sequencing used on these patches?
We enjoy getting all these positive comments, so we did release the orignal midi files / and ableton live session for the demo (we have saved only 6 of those, but this might help). Download it from here: hitspace.hu/media/adamshare/0Coastmidi_87bpm.zip
amazing :) thanks so much. this demo sold me on the 0-coast more than any other that i've seen. if i lived in europe I would buy from you!
@@SoundriaAtModular The link doesn't seem to work anymore. Any chance for re-up? Would be massively appreciated! Wicked work!
So, patch 2 - mainly I wondering what is being sent from the midi b gate out to linear fm in? I think a lot of people would love the detailed notes about patches and sequencing on this, it’s a superb demo. Peace al
Nice! Got one because of this video ;) Is the project file still available? that hitspace url isn't working :(
Wow sounds amazing
1:34 patch 3 gave me goosebumps:) Anyone who knows more music with this kind of sound?
Truls Nn maybe thriftworks but he has a lot of different stuff
Sandstorm - Darude
01:50 onward perfect resonance
very interesting device, sounds nice!
Damn that intro (1st?) patch is sick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's f...ng awesome!!
As soon as the school year starts and I earn enough my, this going to sit next to Mother32 and ARP Odyessy.
Fuck, that video sold me in like 4 seconds.
What is cv source in patch 07 velocity? Excellent video
Please, please, please do an in-depth tutorial on each of these patches! You can even talk!
Awesome demo!
Start of number 9 reminded me of the start and end of the album Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd! Guess I'm a huge Pink Floyd nerd, nearly everything reminds me of their songs! All-time fav band for me! :)
So i have a noob question , at 4:14 on Patch 7 of the video, I'm wondering

Super geil! Viel spaß und danke bei dir! Grüßen aus interplanetary space musik machen! Liebe aus Wien!
psysword du schwebst gerade
come the effect on the third patch also from the 0-coast ? sounds like delayd reverb! ^^
How is the first patch done? Are external effects/automation used or is the sound just achieved with sequencing?
It is achieved by sequencing, no automation, no FX. Just some very fast downward minor 7th scales transposed by certain intervals.
Apparently we did share the original midi and ableton files by public demand ;) Enjoy! hitspace.hu/media/adamshare/0Coastmidi_87bpm.zip
Trying to decide to dip my toe into West Coast synthesis with either this or a Microvolt 3900; this vid does not make the decision any easier as I was leaning toward the Microvolt.
Patch 4 is a killer!
Thank you for sharing these great patches. I wish somehow I could get Tony Orlando to make this like a mini-matrixbrute. You need a USB MIDI interface and a MIDI track on your DAW. Make sure you the MIDI out channel on the DAW is set to the same MIDI in channel on the 0-coast.
Sounds good.
I don't know what to get first now . . this or the minibrute 2s 😩 I could definitely use reason if I want to make sequences with this
perfect for a game show
I imagine what's coming in via the midi in is just some ostinato lines (sequence) from a DAW?
Awesome video :)
How exactly do you connect midi from ableton into the 0 coast without a Midi Keyboard, is there a way, if possible?
I'd love to see what your sequencing in Ableton looked like.
Hi Mark, most sequences are quite simple, in the fourth patch I'm faking multitimbral behaviour by laying down radically different pitches very fast in dense clusters. Depending on their style density and overall pitch, the clusters
can sound a little like different instruments.
And....there you go! hitspace.hu/media/adamshare/0Coastmidi_87bpm.zip
Awesome. Thanks!
Great demo! Tried patch #9 on mine and pitch is way higher after copying visual setup exactly - any ideas??
Nice Sounds!!!. Can i use this Synth with every DAW,like FL Studio,
is there a vst that comes even close to this type of sound/variability?
Madrona Labs Aalto kinda fits the bill.
Aalto's my favorite VST, but I don't think I've ever made sounds with it that sound anything like these ones. Personally I'd use U-He's Bazille or the stripped down version ACE if I wanted this sort of thing in a VST.
reaktor doesnt have this exact setup but is really good at making these type of sounds, especially with the new blocks in reaktor 6
Ripplemaker AU for iPad comes close.
Reaktor Blocks can do even better
amazing piece of gear. want
Does anyone have the MIDI patches and/or the Ableton session? 👀
What is running into the midi in?
Nice demo. Did you run the sound through a delay/reverb unit to get the stereo effect? Thanks.😏😏😏😏😏
