My dad snuck out when he was 12 to see the OG with his older brothers. He told me that he spent the rest of the night sleeping on my grandparent's bedroom floor. Years later, we got to watch the re-released version together. It still freaked him out! Lol Can we all take a minute to appreciate how fabulous Ellen Burstyn looks? She's in her 90's & still kicking ass!
@@DrumdumsOfficialWhen we went to see the re-release, the theater was packed. We ended up sitting in the front row. That spider walk was a trip to see up close.
I read leaks from the test screening, and they cut out a LOT of the plot. There was a plot involving the Pazuzu statue and some other statues that were discovered. The dad finds 2 broken statues down in the sewer, which is how the 2 girls are possessed. You find out it wasn’t actually the same demon, but another demon trying to trick Chris MacNeil and bring Regan out of hiding. They hint there are still 3 statues hidden somewhere around the world. When they are broken, a demon possesses a soul. Regan comes back and is going to go after the remaining statues. And the final scene has Anne Dowd smiling creepy, hinting that she has been possessed somehow. They cut all of that just in case they don’t go thru with a sequel. They cut most of the plot that built up a possible trilogy, most likely due to poor test screening reactions.
I had a feeling that the re-shoots further screwed everything up. In trailer 2, you see Anne Dowd with that stretchy face during the strobe montage, as well as different shots of Angela in the hospital bed laughing, including a shot of that ceiling mobile, and a nice shot of Ellen and Victor driving down a dark street toward Katharine's house. Only a few moments, sure, but none of that was in the film. Also, they made a big deal of Angela carving Regan's name into the mental hospital wood, and in the trailers you can see that she's written MOTHER in blood on her wall, but that shot too wasn't in the film, and it felt like they didn't know what to do with Regan and Chris. I heard that originally one of the girls had Regan's name cut into her stomach, but who knows whether that was true or not. In the end, if your account of the earlier cut is true, then damn, because it sounds better than what we got. Sadly, even if the early cut went ahead, we'd still be stuck with a subpar DGG film, and I say that as someone who enjoyed 75% of the first hour of Believer, expectations lowered of course. Once Chris had her eyes messed with, it all went downhill for me and felt very corny.
@@Dude-oh8vq Yea a lot of the connections to the original were cut. I’m not 100% sure their motive, but I do believe it was poor reception to the film. Covering their bases in case they don’t end up doing a trilogy. However, you are correct about Regan being carved into one of their stomachs and “mother” having much more meaning. There was more backstory to Chris and Regan than what we got (as well as the statues), but it was all cut minus Linda Blair’s VERY short cameo at the end. Sad to see really. I do agree it still would have been a subpar film lol. Their ideas sound great on paper but have yet to be executed well. I read the Halloween Kills script before the movie release, and I was SURE we were about to get the best Halloween film in years. Bahahahaha 😂
"Ellen Burysten is barely in the movie." I believe they bring back beloved characters for "movie trailer fuel." Many Exorcist fans were excited that Burysten was returning and when they saw her in the trailer. The studio paid $400million for the rights to this film, they're gonna use every trick in the book to make this film profitable.
If anyone (including dumdrums) is wondering where the hype came from for Exorcist 3, we can all thank Matthew Danczac for incredible in-depth review of the movie on RUclips It has close to a million views and its what got me to go back and watch, only reference I had as a kid was seeing the cover in the video rental store.
I saw that one, really good. But I remember way back in the early 2000's a lot of horror fans I knew held the movie in high regard, but maybe that was a fluke. For me, the movie will always be remembered for Dourif's performance and that insane jump scare done way before the jump scare being the most over used device in horror.
WTF??? They ripped her eyes out??? 😂 thats terrible! She finally came back and she agreed Chris gets her eyes ripped out??? She's such a nice lady. And shes 90!!! Wtf
I have zero interest in watching this movie but definitely watching your spoiler review. That’s how far I’ll get with this movie. Thank you for always sharing your honest opinions!
Thanks for the spoilers on Exorcist Believer Lee. Yeah I won't be seeing this in the theaters after watching this. But I'll wait for it on DVD I'm curious as to how I'll feel about the movie
Chris mentioned earlier in the film that she didn’t experience the exorcism with her daughter and even mentioned a “patriarchy” aspect. As far as screenplay goes, her facing the possessed girl alone was her character wanting to experience it first hand. He went inside, but didn’t force her upstairs.
And now she knows why she wasn't allowed in Reagan's room during her Exorcism, as she is a complete liability and for some reason written to be a complete moron in Believer, when the character was smart and rational in the original movie and the novel.
When I saw the trailer I felt that scene was going to be a dream sequence because to everyone's point why would the father let an old woman in the room with his deranged daughter alone? I mean at that point she should have been restrained or never be left alone that "We've met before line" was delivered in such an awful disengaged way I feel like Ellen was just there for a check, but then again so is the director. The scene was ridiculous and shows she was only brought in for the tie in and they boot her as fast as they can. Also the Patriarchy line was disgusting and all for political agenda, that "Patriarchy" were two men who gave their lives for her daughter so STFU with that crap...but when you're a hack director you play to anyone and anything
It’s absolutely insane to think that the Chris character would make a comment about the Patriarchy in reference to the two men who sacrificed their lives to save her daughter. Horrible lol It’s worse than Laurie never having a moment where she speaks fondly of Loomis in the new trilogy, besides “ugh you’re the new Loomis” at Sartain. DGG is becoming borderline unlikeable with his “creative vision.”
I have been worried about the outcome of this. Thanks . I will be checking it out this weekend. The original movie was a masterpiece. It is a hard one to remake. I loved the new Saw. Can't wait to see your review on that.
Exorcist iii was big in the UK and Ireland. Every year in the 90s they'd show a TV show about the scariest moments in film and TV and exorcist iii was often in it
I was a child in the 70s When my mom took me to seethe exorcist in the theater I was in elementary school I think we came in on half the movie and when I saw Reagan turn her head around and say " do you know what she did... " I'm was like I want to go home ! Lol and the couple next to me laughed at me the whole ride home I was so shaken up omg I couldn't even talk !
My dad was 12 when he saw The Exorcist, and he taught Linda Blair was really cute. He say it was like watching the woman of his dreams turn into his worst nightmare.
What people need to understand about The Exorcist, regardless if they find it scary or not with modern eyes, is that it was very very provocative for the time. It's not only a stellar movie... but there are stuff in there that are very very controversial that audiences never saw before. Stuff people wouldn't even dare to put on film today. So you have to put yourself in the context of the time to understand that people were barely out of a very Christian and prude era, watching very tame horror movies, to get slapped in the face by a crucifix bloody masturb@tion. That's why people were freakin out. It was scarring. The level of dread was unbearable for the time. You could be 100% sure that Blumhouse and David Gordon Green would take only the possession gimmicks and not match the quality, the story, the directing, the acting, and mostly will never have the balls to push the limits as much as the original did. It was expected to be just another Saturday night popcorn horror flick.
I love this movie, i went in not comparing on purpose to the original. I do appreciate other opinions as well. The exorcist is a movie that is impossible to replicate! let’s be honest we are so desensitized by horror now. It’s damn near impossible to shock and scare horror fans. If this movie was made in the same era people would lose there shit over it.
Not only are we more desensitized by horror but the "possession"movie is so played out. On top of that this movie has been satirized to death. The shock value of seeing someone who's possessed just isn't really there anymore.
I'm definitely not shitting all over it. It has some good moments. I just think some of the choices made story wise were weak. I'm able to separate sequels from the originals and break them down.
No. The Exorcist was art. It had a vision behind it, it had ideas, questions. It pushed the envelope in ways no one had seen. This was just a piece of shit that tried very hard not to offend any religion. This was definitely a soulless, made by committee "product." Impossible to compare it with the original. Or even part 3.
I think i am the only person who actually enjoyed the film lol. Obviously the worse part was when they poked her eyes out, but other than that i found it interesting and thrilling
Morgan Creek really SHOULD have just tried to revive the 2016-2017 FX series. FX cancelling it after two seasons was a huge mistake. That show was how to follow-up a classic excellently. Outside that, only the original 1973 film, Exorcist 3 (1990), and Dominion-Prequel To The Exorcist (2005) are worth seeing.
Honestly me and my wife both really really liked this movie. I actually liked that Ellen had her eyes poked out instead of them dragging her on for so long like they have with Laurie and the Scream characters. I thought the 2 girls played their possessed selves actually very well, and overall the characters were likable. Me and my wife are actually very excited to see where the sequels go. For me David Gorden Green hasn't disappointed yet, 2018 was solid, I loved Kills to bits, I really really liked Ends and really liked this film.
Again thanks Lee for your review. I don't think I'm going to see this movie unless it comes out on Hulu or something. But maybe some people will like it. I was wondering about box office numbers to. Let's wait till after the weekend and check ✔️ to see what people liked about it. Happy weekend.
@@DrumdumsOfficial anytime my friend. You are one of my favorites. One that I trust and can confide in. It was funny how you forgot to shoot out Mohammed. That was funny to me. So I won't ask. You might forget. To shot me out..
I’m still looking forward to see this movie and I can’t wait to see it Lee brother and I’m so hype to see this movie Lee and nice shirt too brother I have the exact same one as you too Lee bro 😎
Great analysis of the film bro! I felt underwhelmed by it, too. And I live in Georgetown where the original is very sacred. I actually saw The Nun 2 in theaters and thought it was a lot scarier and creepier (if Believer was as scary as The Conjuring, I would’ve been happy). Too bad James Wan didn’t take on this project (I think he has too much respect for the OG to even try). I did like the touching ending with Regan and Chris. But I admit the voice actors who did Burke Dennings and the demon did a terrific job! Love your collection and shirt 😎
I ended up seeing the movie and I give it a 6/10. Wasn’t terrible but wasn’t great it was just average. I am interested to where the sequel goes though.
I am so upset at the Ellen Burstyn treatment in this movie, she’s is a LEGEND as an actor and as Chris McNeil. That was no way to pay homage to her character, she’s been through so much! She should have been in the exorcism, she should have become the new father Merrin, the voice bringing all those believes together and saving the day without dying….. this time. but to tease us with her, then let us down by not even having her around past 10 mins and a monologue with her terribly hurt (blind) until the day she dies? No man…. 😢
Just saw it in theaters. I’m happy I used a gift card. I liked the concept of a double possession better than the execution. Imo, the first half was better than the second. The makeup was cool but for me, the film gets lost in the sea of possession movies.
It just Took longer for Exorcist 3 to Be Noticed. I Don't think the Internet had anything to do with it. Horror Fans knew it was a Good Film Before the Internet, they Just Couldn't Share they're Fondness for it Till the Internet & Social Media.
2 hours lost yep for sure dude. Glad I waited 7 months to watch this movie. Thank God DGG is out let's hope Mikey F can take over because I have faith in him. Thx Lee for the spoiler review
I’m wearing that exact shirt right now!!!!!!!! Awesome 🎃🔪 This was a bummer.... Idk, really don’t know how I feel about 2 more movies. I hope they’re good. The first half was pretty good, I was liking it. 2nd have fell off hard. It is showing that DGG seems to be growing tired of horror. A lot of his stuff is indie coming of age dramas and it’s starting to show that he is kinda missing what he used to do Good video like usual! Let’s hope the next 2 movies turn it around
Hey, I'm supposed to see this in two weeks. On a scale between 1-10, how scary is this movie? Like can a scaredy cat (myself) watch this and be able to go to sleep? It seems JUMPSCARE heavy and I'm so glad that I watched this review because there supposed to be a moment with eyes? Now I can brace myself! 😅
@@AC-sh9ic Amazing tension filled first half, some jumpscares. If you saw the first exorcist you should easily survive lol For me it got less scary when it was supposed to be scary if that makes sense lol
I believe around 2010 one of those cable channels did a top 50 horror movies you’ve never seen I believe amc did one . That’s where I saw exorcist 3 being highly praised and watched it ! So atleast since then it’s had fans
It mite have been amc 100 scariest movie moments which came out in 2004 . I was wrong and I guess the best 50 horror movies you’ve never seen came out in 2014 ! Thank you for all your content lee !
David Gordon green and rob zombie are great with the camera shots and editing but they are terrible at writing. Danny McBride is a terrible writer for horror. Way too much comedy.
Drum, if you get the time, check out "When Evil Lurks". I skipped the Exorcist for obvious reasons to watch that film. It's neck and neck with "Talk to Me" for best horror film of the year so far. It should be playing at selected theaters near you. I don't know if you watch foreign horror, though. The film is definitely worth the trip for horror fans.
The unspoken worst part of the story is the fact that they disregarded the tradition of possession coming in three phases. The girls were supposed to be haunted and pestered by demon. Their homes should've been bumping and thumping long before the girls were pale and scarred with chapped lips. The pacing was so off and neither of the families were developed so there was no emotional attachment to them or the girls. I found myself bored and confused watching this movie
I liked the film but that was one of My observations was a abbreviated build in the process of possession! I also didn’t like that vulgar display of power during the exorcism.
I completely agree with you about the editing of this movie, even the scene with Chris and the demon the conversation was rushed and much better in the trailer. I don't like the comment about the patriarchy kept her out of the exorcism. I can't stand all of the little woke jabs. The Christian family is weak and the atheist family is strong. Just make a movie and stop catering to what you think people want to hear and it will be much better. I loved the beginning and then they wasted the performance by the two young actresses who did a great job with their characters only to be ruined by the lack of character of everyone else besides Angela's father. Not for nothing but was there anyone who didn't see the very very end not happening? Did they really not think Linda Blair was going to show up at the end of the film in some capacity. I just wish they could have developed something a little better. The original is in my opinion a perfect movie. I was really hoping that they would have done it justice but I think they really missed the mark. Hopefully if they do finish the trilogy it will get better.
Absolutely not. I stated that I think it would have been better for both to live, going forward for the sequel. I even stated that I much preferred Victor and Angela in the movie.
Just for the record any comment after the editing was mine. I didn't mean to imply that you said anything about the other comments. Believe it or not I was ok with one of the girls dying however I didn't like that they went away from Pazuzu and went with some other demon type. (at least that's how I saw it) I really did like the two girls performance. Angela's father was a good character. The other girls father was ridiculous.@@DrumdumsOfficial
I was not a big fan of the DGG Halloween movies, and to me when I heard he was doing and Exorcist trilogy it immediately sounded like a money grab. Like you said Friedkin's original film is one of the best of all time, and it's almost impossible to make a film that lives up to that. Blatty somehow did it with Exorcist III, but then again who better than him to do it? On the other hand we all know we're going to watch this new one anyway so... 🤷♂️ 😂
I think people started talking about Exorcist 3 bc of the Jeffrey Dahmer series bc it was said it was his favorite movie so it got alot of buzz bc of that. But that's just my opinion.
Is it true there's a mention of patriarchy in this movie? Specifically why Chris wasn't present for the original exorcism? If that's true, Green shouldn't be allowed to ever make another film.
Tiktoker G.A.TURKS types: the only way they can hold us for 2 more movies is if Regan comes back (as a priest) to help the father confront the demon & avenge her mom, only to go through a showdown of religious proportion ending with her hands around the girl's neck screaming TAKE ME! TAKE ME! Leaving us with the final scene ....of the demon... OBLIGING.... and BOOM,💥 a cliffhanger that will have the public running to see the 3rd film.
I don’t mind dgg films. I enjoyed the Halloween trilogy with ends being my favorite. But I think I’ll wait for streaming for the exorcist believer. I’m not that big of a fan of the og. I respect the film for what it did for horror I’ve just always preferred the 3rd one. I watched the trailers for teb and just felt like it was the run of the mill possession film with the exorcist name attached to it.
I liked the movie. You don’t get what led to Reagan’s possession in the original film either. Angela’s father is the main character just like Ellen’s character. He becomes the believer. He gets signs that something is wrong when the kids first get to the woods. I assume Katherine’s parents will be the main characters in the next one.
I gotta admit I thought the trailer looked terrible I seen all the bad reviews BUT I really didn’t think it was that bad. It had hints of the same feelings of dread and creepy imagery the original had. All in all I’d give it a 7/10
@@DrumdumsOfficial I agree the first hour of the movie was the best. I think maybe people will come around once the dust settles and the expectations wear off
I had to turn it off as soon as she was like “release this child” 😂 … the black girl kept me interested and the story line was ok with just her and her mom. I think she’s a good actress… but since I cut it off, I’ll pass on finishing it 😂
Ellen Burnstyn didn't want to do Exorcist believer. Blumhouse offered her 3 times her fee to do a film and she rejected it. She didn't like the script. Burnstyn finally gave in when she was offered 3 times her fee and money for her charity.
Me and my dad liked the movie, we understand that nothing could beat the original and nothing could be as good as the original so going into it we both enjoyed the new spin on it and it was awesome
Also same everyone told me exorcist the beginning was horrible but I think in retrospect its a lot better than people give it credit for. Maybe I'm crazy.
The film lost me when a homeless guy gleefully alluded to raping children by gesturing with a sausage between his fingers…you’re making a sequel to one of the greatest films ever made here.
Spoiler comments go! Pretty much the only thing I found scary was the snake jump scene. The opening was interesting enough, and I thought used the earthquake tragedy in a way that made sense and didn't feel too cheap. Saw Regan's cameo coming a mile away, and all I could think of was, "Oh, that's nice." Still, they did Chris dirty in this movie, though not as dirty as what happened to Sally in the last Texas Chainsaw. Or Father what's his name, who was barely established throughout, given the climactic hero's entrance and then killed off seconds later. Father Morning in The Exorcist III had more screentime. At least I got some laughs from it. I have no real intention of seeing any follow-up films, but I do wonder if Katherine will play a part in them. Pity this film couldn't retain my interest. Better than The Heretic and the prequel(s) I guess, but I'll stick with 1 and 3.
I just saw the movie. It was good, not great. There were things that were not explained, like about the two girls getting possessed. It's great to see Ellen Burstyn again. This movie was more sad than scary. My favorite part is at the end with Chris MacNeil. I would say see it if you really want to, if you're hesitant than wait for it to go to dvd, cable, or streaming. This movie does not hold up to the original classic The Exorcist. RIP William Friedkin. I give this a 6.5 / 10. That's basically for Ellen Burstyn, otherwise it would be lower.
I'm glad that they didn't show what happened to the girls in the woods for their 3 days missing. It's so much scarier to draw from your own imagination. That's the problem with audiences today or the newer generation that just wants all explained, no patience for ambiguity or that some things are just mystery. Movie was ok. I would say a little better than what's being made nowadays, and it does suffer occasionally by the director, producer and writer's own shortcomings as either inexperienced in genres their not used to. Maybe too much adolescent drug comedy farce films of their past prevent them from taking the material seriously. I think in time it will gain more.appreciation.
I finally sat my ass down and watched this...while I did like it, I also saw that they did try too hard to be scary...and it was scary to me, but not as scary as the OG. Sucks one of the kids had to die to save the other but it is what is. Good to see Linda Blair again though.
I just saw this yesterday. Wasn't as bad as I expected based on other reviews. I did accidentally buy the 4DX tickets and that made the movie definitely more memorable.
So basically David Gordon Green watched "Prisoners" and the Mexican movie "Here Comes The Devil" and decided to copy and paste both movies plots. It's insane to me that they gave a movie so connected to Catholicism, to a Director who so obviously hates Catholicism and couldn't detach himself from his personal opinions and just make a good movie. It's not a coincidence that the only Person of Faith who dies in the movie is the Catholic Priest and you have Chris McNeill mocking and belittling the two Catholic Priests who gave their lives to save Reagan. No other Religion in the movie was treated with that level of disrespect.
The first exorcist movie is a favorite of mine and I wasn’t dazzled by the first trailer that came out. It really seemed like Chris was going to have a bigger role in this, but she has only roughly 20 minutes of screen time and wouldn’t change a thing if you took her out. It doesn’t feel much better knowing that she didn’t want to reprise her role in the first place, until they gave her a bigger check. Such a disrespectful interpretation of a great character. I could go on and on about what went wrong here.
She sold out, and I don't know what her situation is, but at her age, did she need it that bad? Her acting in this was stiff and apathetic, you could see she wasn't engaged at all. I wonder if they tried Blair first and she told them to pound sand, she seems done with the Exorcist and it being all she's known for. Have you seen the Fox TV series? Season one is a sequel to the OG and it stars Geena Davis, it has a great swerve near the end and they bring in Chris(different actress of course) and let's just say it was a very different spin on her than this one as far as how she cashed in on what happened.
@@theblackflame4002 she donated the check to a school I believe, but it shows she was there for the check regardless. I should check out the show though!
@@akis8402When Ellen Burstyn complained that the rope her back was attached too was being pulled too hard, Friedkin told the guy "next time pull harder" 😮
12:30 thats what i kind of liked about it. These people with so many differing beliefs coming together its a very altruistic approach to something in media thats always spearheaded the same way with a catholic priest. I feel the theme of community was a strong one and i feel the movie is getting such a bad rap that i feel it doesnt truly deserve. I also like the incorporation of the blessing in the beginning of the movie.
hey Lee brother i wear the exactly same t-shirt has you too when i saw the Exorcist Believer in theater with my mom and i did tell you my thoughts on the movie on your spoiler free review brother and Michael Myers in the purple one i have that shirt too brother bro
Like I said when I heard about this movie coming out was. There are now way in hell that the movie is going to better than the Fx tv show season 1. And man I was so right ! One thing a find very ballsey in this movie is that they killed the girl which parents believed in god.
Take out the mom and any references to the first film, this could be enjoyable and its own thing. But every time I see the one girl slightly resemble Regan and how Jumpscare heavy it feels, I can't get behind it. It's just not my cup of tea
I liked the movie but I didn’t like when the priest came in and he ended up dying. I felt so bad lol he didn’t wanna do it cuz something bad can happen and yet right when he comes in he dies lmao. And then when they poked her eyes out too. And I wish they did more with her character. But gosh I really loved the ending when the demon says I choose you Catherine. So creepy and it just shows how demons lie and manipulate everything they say. Never trust their word.
Th idea for the missing girls and subsequent possession was lifted from Here Comes The Devil. I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned. As for as Exorcist 3 - it's a great book and adequate movie. Could have been much better if not for studio interference. Still no where near as great as the original, as some fans seem to think. Last two things, I walked out soon after the "patriarchy" comment. So f'king stupid and unnecessary. Last thing, I HATE halloween kills and ends. Keep Green from destroying anymore classics. Again, these are my options. Those that enjoyed all of Green's movies, good. Not taking anything away from you guys.
In my humble opinion Believer is pretty decent for what it is, unnecessary and forced legacy sequel to arguably perfect movie. I think having no expectations and seeing it in IMAX helped me to enjoy it. Also I have a sympathy for DGG and the crew due to the fact I loved new Halloweens with all their flaws. Saying that I don't think DDG was a right choice for Exrocist. Cheers!
this is drums' channel so I want to show respect but if you wish to know SPOILER SpoileR Yes BUT IT IS VERY TINY - it is a VERY small cameo but she shows up - briefly
After seeing this last night turns out this is very choppy and screwed up with editing magic. The Exorcist 1973 will stay as the best horror possession, so yeah i would rate this a 4/10 because of how bad the film was some good factors but just bad not terrible.

I saw that one, really good. But I remember way back in the early 2000's a lot of horror fans I knew held the movie in high regard, but maybe that was a fluke. For me, the movie will always be remembered for Dourif's performance and that insane jump scare done way before the jump scare being the most over used device in horror.
No it’s because Jeffrey Dahmer watched it with his victims
WTF??? They ripped her eyes out??? 😂 thats terrible! She finally came back and she agreed Chris gets her eyes ripped out??? She's such a nice lady. And shes 90!!! Wtf
Yeah I would have went a different direction. And it was all for nothing.
Stabbed with a crucifix.. that whole scene was wicked af‼️🫣
I have zero interest in watching this movie but definitely watching your spoiler review. That’s how far I’ll get with this movie. Thank you for always sharing your honest opinions!
Thank you Chris!
Same! I care so little about this movie I have no problem watching full spoilers (as I did with the last 2 Star Wars movies)
Hell the trailers spoiled most of the movie anyways, that's a red flag that it was gonna be crap
Same...
Thanks for the spoilers on Exorcist Believer Lee. Yeah I won't be seeing this in the theaters after watching this. But I'll wait for it on DVD I'm curious as to how I'll feel about the movie
Just got done watching The Exorcist: Believer & it was okay enough! An easy 6/10!
It might have done better if it wasn't called The Exorcist and was its own thing imo
I agree!
I watch
Went the other day thought it was passable.the only one I thought was good was George c Scott's 1990 version excorcist three.
That makes sense. Thank you. As a man, I would feel the need to protect her.
The patriarchy, huh?
It’s absolutely insane to think that the Chris character would make a comment about the Patriarchy in reference to the two men who sacrificed their lives to save her daughter. Horrible lol
It’s worse than Laurie never having a moment where she speaks fondly of Loomis in the new trilogy, besides “ugh you’re the new Loomis” at Sartain.
DGG is becoming borderline unlikeable with his “creative vision.”
I have been worried about the outcome of this. Thanks . I will be checking it out this weekend. The original movie was a masterpiece. It is a hard one to remake. I loved the new Saw. Can't wait to see your review on that.
This isn’t a remake but a progression of the story. The Exorcist should never be remade!
Exorcist iii was big in the UK and Ireland. Every year in the 90s they'd show a TV show about the scariest moments in film and TV and exorcist iii was often in it
Boy, am I glad I made other plans this weekend. Glad I caught Saw X last week. 😂
Thanks for the shoutout, Lee! We definitely appreciate people that can have positive discussions even with differing opinions.
Agreed Cecil!
Having paid $400m on the rights, the sequels are guaranteed, regardless of the box office of this movie
I bet Blumhouse is going to fire DGG though and have a different director handle the other two movies.
@@cgimichaelmyers2806 I imagine he's already signed a 3 picture deal. So if they didn't use him, they'd still have to pay him ...
The Halloween trilogy paid for this one.
Not scary but really not bad.
I actually enjoyed it, as well. Although, we had a really good crowd in the theatre.
@@AndersonPaaquiao it was just me towards the front and one guy almost all the way back 🤣
Well, he did say a couple of his fellow film critics liked it, so it appears to me you're not alone.
Was that one or two crucifixes lol asking for a friend
I actually loved the movie. I went on not expecting g it to be as good as the original so I went in with no expectations so I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Same. I thought it did a good job at avoiding tropes, and brought some fresh and novel ideas to spirituality and exorcism
Again thanks Lee for your review. I don't think I'm going to see this movie unless it comes out on Hulu or something. But maybe some people will like it. I was wondering about box office numbers to. Let's wait till after the weekend and check ✔️ to see what people liked about it. Happy weekend.
Thanks Mike.

Yeah The Nun 2 was much better. So cool that you live in Georgetown.
@@DrumdumsOfficial Yeah and I’ve been up the staircase and it’s extremely steep haha
No man…. 😢
It was quite appalling.
The new Father Merrin? No that wouldn't work, especially after that stupid anti-male patriarchy line. What they did with her character was atrocious
I'm not so sure. The internet plays a big part in creating hype and renewing interest in things.
2 hours lost yep for sure dude. Glad I waited 7 months to watch this movie. Thank God DGG is out let's hope Mikey F can take over because I have faith in him. Thx Lee for the spoiler review
You’re welcome brother
I have no theaters close by so will have to wait for it physical. Good review and cool video Lee!👉😃👈
I’m wearing that exact shirt right now!!!!!!!! Awesome 🎃🔪
This was a bummer.... Idk, really don’t know how I feel about 2 more movies. I hope they’re good.
The first half was pretty good, I was liking it. 2nd have fell off hard. It is showing that DGG seems to be growing tired of horror. A lot of his stuff is indie coming of age dramas and it’s starting to show that he is kinda missing what he used to do
Good video like usual! Let’s hope the next 2 movies turn it around
Haha nice!

Interesting. Thank you for sharing. I'll have to look this up.
It mite have been amc 100 scariest movie moments which came out in 2004 . I was wrong and I guess the best 50 horror movies you’ve never seen came out in 2014 ! Thank you for all your content lee !
Exorcist 3 came out in theaters yrs ago. I remember going.
David Gordon green and rob zombie are great with the camera shots and editing but they are terrible at writing. Danny McBride is a terrible writer for horror. Way too much comedy.
Don't you dare lump Zombie in with Green 😂 At least one has talent 🎸
@@josephs2536rob zombie has talent lol?
Zombies Halloween is very entertainig, however the gutter trash dialogue is a disgrace.
The Exorcist E50: 50 Years Later
The unspoken worst part of the story is the fact that they disregarded the tradition of possession coming in three phases. The girls were supposed to be haunted and pestered by demon. Their homes should've been bumping and thumping long before the girls were pale and scarred with chapped lips. The pacing was so off and neither of the families were developed so there was no emotional attachment to them or the girls. I found myself bored and confused watching this movie
I liked the film but that was one of My observations was a abbreviated build in the process of possession! I also didn’t like that vulgar display of power during the exorcism.
Great points!
Killer Spray-Tan Brother! From a fellow Male Spray-Tan Enthusiast. Spray ON!
That's actually mayonnaise.
That is modern day Hollywood for you, hating Catholics is very trendy with the left right now for whatever reason.
I just watched exorcist 3 for the first time last night. I thought it was awesome!
I think people started talking about Exorcist 3 bc of the Jeffrey Dahmer series bc it was said it was his favorite movie so it got alot of buzz bc of that. But that's just my opinion.
I know people probably walked out the theater after seeing the movie
yeah people tend to do that when a movie is over jamar
@@cyberfa1ry614 I'm mentioning that they probably walked out in the middle of the movie. It will never be great like how the original was

Is it true there's a mention of patriarchy in this movie? Specifically why Chris wasn't present for the original exorcism? If that's true, Green shouldn't be allowed to ever make another film.
Yes they did mention patriarchy.
@@DrumdumsOfficial good lord. What trash.
If you're not a fan of the og, you might like this one. It's quite different.
I still want to see this movie
I liked the movie. You don’t get what led to Reagan’s possession in the original film either. Angela’s father is the main character just like Ellen’s character. He becomes the believer. He gets signs that something is wrong when the kids first get to the woods. I assume Katherine’s parents will be the main characters in the next one.
Glad you enjoyed it.
I gotta admit I thought the trailer looked terrible I seen all the bad reviews BUT I really didn’t think it was that bad. It had hints of the same feelings of dread and creepy imagery the original had. All in all I’d give it a 7/10
It's not the worst movie ever. I give it a 5/10. Good first half/horrible 2nd.
Glad you and your dad enjoyed it. That's all that matters.
Even if this movie is a box office bomb, it is part of a trilogy. Part II will be in production soon and will be released in 2025. Exorcist: Deceiver.
hahaha
They could have saved 300 million by calling it just a random title .
Haha yep!
Just watched it. It was serviceable. Not great but not bad either. Not a great script but very good performances from the actors.
Also same everyone told me exorcist the beginning was horrible but I think in retrospect its a lot better than people give it credit for. Maybe I'm crazy.
I want to go back and watch beginning and dominion again. I don't remember them at all.
The previews alone for the movie looks bad alone
The film lost me when a homeless guy gleefully alluded to raping children by gesturing with a sausage between his fingers…you’re making a sequel to one of the greatest films ever made here.
Am going see saw x again but i might just pay to see that and walk into this movie lol
😅
I love your honesty haha.
Yes the snake jump was nice.
I honestly enjoyed that movie. I did not go in expecting this movie to be as good as the original. I kind of reconciled with that before watching it.
Awesome Rich! Glad you enjoyed it.
I finally sat my ass down and watched this...while I did like it, I also saw that they did try too hard to be scary...and it was scary to me, but not as scary as the OG. Sucks one of the kids had to die to save the other but it is what is. Good to see Linda Blair again though.
Yep. They tried way too hard.
At 9:30 yeah Lee same editor that did the Halloween reboot trilogy brother
Yeah I figured.
I wish you'd explained how and why one of the girls dies... But thanks for the review!
I just saw this yesterday. Wasn't as bad as I expected based on other reviews. I did accidentally buy the 4DX tickets and that made the movie definitely more memorable.
Well now kinda want to see this movie . LoL
Haha this happens to me a lot.
Yep. All of this.
I really liked it.
Love that!

12:30 thats what i kind of liked about it. These people with so many differing beliefs coming together its a very altruistic approach to something in media thats always spearheaded the same way with a catholic priest.
I agree.
Agreed. He was afraid and chose to stand up, then dies anyway.
its looks pretty good to me i don't care what others think about this movie i want to see for myself
Movie was good 8.5/10 definitely had a creepy vibe to it
Th idea for the missing girls and subsequent possession was lifted from Here Comes The Devil.

After seeing this last night turns out this is very choppy and screwed up with editing magic. The Exorcist 1973 will stay as the best horror possession, so yeah i would rate this a 4/10 because of how bad the film was some good factors but just bad not terrible.
I'm just not a fan of DGG as a horror writer so I'm gonna pass on this one. His Halloween trilogy was a big letdown for me.
The writing is pretty subpar in some areas. The Victor characters has great dialogue though. Weird.
